deartify Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Hello everyone, I have a question about croping tool. Can we crop from both sides at the same time. I want to grab for example left side and resize image symetrically to the center. In PS we can press Alt key if I remember and it crops symetricaly. Thank you for any ideas xamp, Fixx and makeshine 3 Quote
Staff Lee D Posted June 30, 2017 Staff Posted June 30, 2017 Hi deartify, Welcome to the forums. This feature has been requested and may be added to the app in a future update. Quote
DesignDex Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Has this feature been implemented yet? I haven't been successful when I tried on version 1.7.3 with any of the Alt, Ctrl, Shift keys. Quote
DesignDex Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 I seemed to have found a workaround for now. By typing in the new width in the crop dimensions you can crop with respect to the Center. You can also crop with Documents>resize canvas and use the center anchor option. It would be nicer though if we could use the cropping tool handles instead so we wouldn't have to do trial and error with the dimensions until we get the desired crop. Here is a video showcasing both methods. Quote
BrandonZ Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 Any word on the implementation of this? I tried dragging the crop tool while holding alt/option and it didn't pull in both sides at the same time. Synergist 1 Quote
PixelPest Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 In a non-destructive way it´s: 1. draw a rectangle (no Stroke/no fill) above the image of the same size. 2. on a Mac hold down cmd-key and resize symmetrically from left or right till your liking. 3. Drag image onto rectangle in Layers Panel to use it as a mask. BTW: in AD/PixelPersona it works as expected; crop-tool - hold cmd-key down - click+drag - release. Quote
edwingr Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 (edited) I'm also trying to switch to Affinity Photo, but this seems like quite a showstopper. I use this very often. Scaling and cropping with alt and shift combinations seems such a basic function to me. Edited May 16, 2020 by edwingr Fixx 1 Quote
makeshine Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 I constantly need this feature. Especially when my objects are centered and I need to shave off some wasted space equally from both or all sides. Quote
DUST Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Seriously. This feature is heavily overlooked. I just made the switch and am not enjoying the extra steps and inaccurate crop that's happening without shift/alt hot key commands. Please add this in a new update. Synergist, xamp and bures 3 Quote

There are a few places it does not, mostly some of the text fields like font size, where Shift just increments by 0.1 point or inch or (bizarrely) by 0.01 px, & in Paragraph Leading where neither Shift nor alt/option changes the increment. PixelPest Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 Maybe not as consistent as I like to but afaik every entry field "reacts" on scroll-wheeling. I´m old-school and prefer typing in my values. Old Bruce 1 Quote
Juvian Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 I can't believe something so simple is missing in this app. I have been trying to switch to Affinity from Adobe CS, but damn these shortcomings are a pain and make me want to go back... Quote
Synergist Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 2022 and this basic behaviour hasn't been implemented. Very jarring. km.au 1 Quote Hello world.
km.au Posted June 18, 2022 Posted June 18, 2022 Yep, your avatar says it all. Should be a priority feature Quote
geometric Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 I just picked up version 2 hoping they'd improved the crop tool or at least added the ability to crop to selection, but it looks like the same problems from version 1 have still stuck around. Sad that basic usability has to take a backseat to shiny new features. cygaj and xamp 2 Quote
xamp Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 I'm really not sure why this is so hard to implement. This is a feature that's present in all creative tools I know and here a plenty of people requesting it. Please prioritize this! It's a real show stopper for me. Quote
