Welcome to the Affinity forums, @MUGNIER.

It would be much better to provide screenshots as simple JPG or PNG images (if that's what that .pages file is). That way we don't have to download a file, and open it with an application we may not have.

(In this case, I don't have that application available right now, so I can't help.)

Hi @MUGNIER and another warm welcome to the forums,

I've posted your screenshot for those unable to view it...

I can't immediately think of a scenario where Show Left Studio would be greyed out so you may need to do a factory reset of Publisher by holding the Ctrl Key when launching the app. Leave the first three default options checked, hit the Clear button, let the app finish launching, and see if Show Left Studio is available under Window > Studio...

Hi @MUGNIER,

This can happen when you don't have ANY panels docked on the left-hand side.  The quickest way to resolve this is to Reset the studio by clicking Window>Studio>Reset Studio and that will restore the left Studio to its default layout (as well as the right Studio as well).

This worked perfectly and simply. THANK YOU!!

hi!

I have a very similar issue, but it has not been resolved by going to Window > Studio > Reset Studio. I want to use macros and the option Window > Studio > Show Left Studio, but it's greyed out.
I updated Affinity to 2.5.7, have a MacBook Air running Sequoia 15.2, restarted Affinity, my MacBook, tried hiding all panels and resetting, but it's always greyed out. See attached screenshot.

It this a bug or is there a setting that will allow me to use the left studio?

Thank you for your help!

Hello @Dave Oak and welcome to the forums.

You are in the Developer Persona. So there is no Left Studio. If you click the Develop button, you should see the Left Studio panel.

Hi @Dave Oak and another warm welcome to the forums,

Just to add to the feedback, the Left Studio is only greyed out in the Develop Persona when there are no panels in it. If you add panels to the Left Studio, the option will be available.

@Hangman

On the Mac, the left Studio Panel in the Develop Persona is not selectable by default; the Studio Panel only becomes selectable when you move from the right-hand panel, for example the histogram, to the left-hand area.
In the Windows version, the left Studio Panel is active by default without Studio Tabs having to be moved from right to left.

This suggests the Mac behaviour is correct but Windows is incorrect, i.e., the Left Studio Panel should be greyed out and not ticked by default when there are no panels in the Left Studio...

Guess this has to do with snapping panels option that is only available on windows.

I don't think so, this is specific to the Develop Persona of Affinity Photo. The Show Left Studio option should be greyed out and not ticked when there are no panels in the Left Studio. Publisher is slightly different in as much as the Pages panel defaults to the Left Studio but when the Pages Panel is closed on Windows, the Left Studio option is still ticked, on Mac it isn't...

How do you move a panel from the Right Studio to the Left Studio if the Studio is not active? (I know that Circulus showed it can simply be dragged, but that is (to me) an incorrect behavior. If the Studio is not showing I shouldn't be able to drag items into it; they should remain floating.

Why? The approach on Windows, which allows an empty Studio, seems perfectly natural to me, and the Mac approach seems unnatural.

A Studio only exists when it contains panels so if all the panels are removed, there is no Studio so it makes little sense for Show Left Studio to remain ticked in the Window → Studio submenu and since there is no Studio it makes sense that the option is then greyed out as it is on Mac.

Dock a panel to the Left or the UI and you now have a Left Studio containing one panel so Show Left Studio should no longer be greyed out and selecting Window → Studio → Show Left Studio either hides or shows the Left Studio

When you have an empty Left Studio (no panels), Window → Studio → Show Left Studio does nothing whether ticked or unticked...

When I look back and think about it logically, you're right.

Figuratively speaking: A drawer doesn't open by itself just because you hold your socks in front of it.

Some clarification from a Serif moderator or even a developer would be helpful here

To carry the analogy further: A drawer doesn't disappear when it's empty, it's still there, there's just nothing to see in it!

Actually, the contents has been moved, not the drawer!

The way I look at is; there are two side studios, left and right, they are always there, but there is nothing to see unless you put something in them. The contents of the studio panels can be moved around as you wish, but even if it is empty, it's still available, waiting for something to be put in it.

Has Schrödinger's umlaut been (re)moved, or has it merely acquired a state of invisibility? :/

And as for the drawer, it's there, but it doesn't open when you hold socks or Schrödinger's cat in front of it.
