Typography Dialog turned into a Panel

I reported that as well here yesterday...

I had a problem with this button right after the update. I would click it and nothing would happen until I selected the panel from the menu. And then I saw that the size of the panel changes every time I click on the button.

The Typography window sometimes can't be opened due to a bug. If you can't open it from the button, try the Window menu. If that still doesn't work reset the studio or load a saved studio preset (a studio preset saved from 2.5). If that doesn't work, restart Publisher.

Confirming that the Typography window opens too big, (Win Build 2415) beyond the vertical dimensions of the screen, when the font has a lot of features. It is impossible to scroll down to Figure and Capital features. It should not be higher than the screen it is on. Vertical resizing from top or bottom is not working. (Workaround is to collapse some groups.)

I reported this issue in this post, which states that this bug was fixed in version 2.5.0.2415, but it was not.

In version 2.5.0.2430 I can change the height of the panel. So, is it fixed?

Hm, in 2.5.0.2430 (Win) I can NOT change the height of the typography window, and it still reaches my knees, when the font has a lot of features.

Use the hide irrelevant features option which is now located at the top of the panel.

That does not solve the UI-problem, it makes the typography window only a centimetre shorter, and the figure-features are still below the table surface.

I wrote nonsense there 🙂 It depends on the screen.
On my big screen, the Typography window still opens higher than the real estate, but only a tad, so that the last entry (after scrolling down) "Capital Spacing" is cut in half. But it can be (de)activated. That is when I drag the panel exactly to the top of the screen. image.png.c4f7fb4725339fe88a14d072ed6c6f4c.png
When I use the Windows "Scale to Screen" magic it becomes the exact height of the screen (2160 px) and all seems fine.

Until I drag it to the smaller monitor (1600 px height), the Typography window remains 2160 and a bit in height. When I use the OS zoom to screen functionality, it becomes exactly 1600 px in height, but as soon as I move it a bit, it becomes too tall again.  I prefer to have it end above the above-floating task bar, but I can not modify the vertical size by hand yet.

This is not solved in 2.5.0.2430, how can it be solved in 2.5.0.2415? See my post above.

Same issue for me in APub Beta 2.5.0.2437 (on Windows too)

When Publisher is first launched, if the Pages Panel is set to its narrowest width when docked to the Left Studio if the new Typography Panel is added to the Pages Group, when the Typography Panel is selected, it is impossible to increase the Group's width.

This also means the associated graphic icons against each list item aren't visible. The Hamburger Menu for the Typography Panel isn't visible either so the 'Close' and 'Close Panel Group' options are inaccessible from the Typography Panel...

Additional Studio Panels added to the Group are affected in the same way, the Left Studio doesn't auto-expand and can't be manually scaled horizontally and the panel Hamburger Menu is not visible...

Two Workarounds

  1. Hide the Show the Left Studio Panel from the Window > Studio menu
  2. Quit Publisher and relaunch it and the Panels will now have expanded to the correct default width and the Panels will be scalable horizontally...

If the Left Studio is undocked and then recocked the same issue with the Typography Panel applies...

Occasionally, when hovering over the Typography Panel I see the incorrect tooltip... There is no simple recipe to reproduce this, the closest I've found is by docking and then undocking the Typography Panel multiple times but it's very hit-and-miss...

I've not been able to replicate this but I've had one instance when showing the Typography Panel where the Section Headings are not shown...

Version 2.4.2 Left | Version 2.5.0 Right

Note how the Ligatures, Figure Position and Capitals Section Heading are missing on the version 2.5.0 Typography Panel...

Edit: I have another instance where this is happening though still non the wiser as to the cause though both scrolling the list and changing the font weight appear to have an influence but not consistently...

I can't duplicate this on Sonoma. The Pages panel does have a much narrower min width than most panels but if it's the only panel in the left studio when I open Publisher and then I dock Typography next to it, the studio expands to the width required for Typography and I'm able to scale the studio as normal.

Just to clarify, this only happens when first launching Publisher (for me at least)...

That's what I tested. I reset my studios, closed the panel group in the left studio, re-opened Pages. Set narrowest width. Restarted Publisher, showed Typography, and dragged it to the right of Pages which grew the studio. Then scaled the studio wider and narrower.

There are still some old glitches with the studios that require a reset, perhaps reset your studios and try again to see if you can duplicate it?

I did spot another glitch while testing this:

  1. Reset studio
  2. Show Typography
  3. Restart Publisher - Typography is closed instead of being open\
  4. Show Typography
  5. Restart Publisher - Typography is open this time

I tried this same recipe with other panels (Constraints which opens undocked, too, and QuickFX which opens docked) and they worked fine so Typography has a glitch.

I have a feeling it may be related to this bug which I believe @Chris B logged though there's no bug reference currently in the thread... I can reliably recreate it every time...

I see the same issue after a Studio Reset depending on the default Panel width...
