Remove transparent grey/white checks on .eps image

Hello!

I have an image that I purchased and want to be able to use this on top of some text in a brochure.

Can someone please tell me how to remove the background from the attached .eps image and still maintain the highlights in the magnifying glass so that I can lay this over text? When I bought the image, I assumed it was already transparent.

Affinity opens this in such a way that all the chequers are individual objects, where it fails is the lens on the magnifying glass.

I opened the eps in Illustrator and I have deleted the background, I have saved it as an SVG because it maintains the layers structure and the document dimensions, it's also quite a bit smaller re file size

 

This is with the background left in.

I would have thought that the best thing would have been to contact Vectorstock(?) and tell them that it is described as being on a transparent background, not a chequered one, and that is how you expect it to be supplied! As it is it's not as described, nor fit for purpose!

That's what I would expect here too, but sadly a bunch of EPS images there behave like this one for the OP here. - Can't tell though if Illustrator might be able to handle such EPS files differently, or if transparent background has to be taken literally here, thus if it is really meant then to be an image "including an explicite drawn checker board pattern" background.

If the checked background was intentional is it not reasonable to assume that it would appear enlarged under the magnifying glass? But, it seems it was intentional because how do you even save the checked transparency background as part of an image? A screen shot is all I can think of and that is not a good way to sell images.

The file is not in error, it's the way Affinity opens it...

From Illustrator: Layer 1 is the chequered background and as you can see it's easily turned off in Illustrator. Saving as an SVG from Illustrator kept the layer structure intact and Affinity opened it as per Illustrator.

Affinity does not maintain the layer structure when opened as an EPS file, especially with regard to how it interprets the background within the lens.

It's probably not really an EPS file, but a .ai file in an EPS wrapper.

Probably, exporting the EPS to PDF will do much the same as SVG and open the layers better, so PDF seems to be a better option for a file that is also EPS.

I do believe that we* should all be working at moving away from creating, and using, EPS files.

 

* Stock sites as well as graphic designers in general, not just users of Affinity software.
