You have an "Untitled" document open in that video, according to the Toolbar. And it has an Artboard, according to the Layers panel and the labeling in the workspace.

Yes, and I corrected my post above (before your response).

yes, but when I close the document, I get the "holes" in the UI.

And nothing happens in that video when I watch it. There's a document open at the beginning, and at the end.

The point is that — when there is no document open — some buttons (like Add under the selection) are transparent and let the desktop wallpaper appear through them.

If that's the point, why provide a video in which there's always a document open? Or what am I missing?

I guess the video isn't playing correctly for you. There's a document for the first five seconds, then no document for 14 seconds which demonstrates the problem, and then a new document for 5 seconds.

-> Obviously you are not seeing the video but instead just a still picture.

Are you browsing on Windows? Seems to me that some browsers have problems playing videos from MacOS screenrecordings which are usually ".mov".

I usually drop my screen recordings onto Handbrake to convert to MP4 before posting here.

Just to check on this off-topic forum/video-issue: Are you able to play the video in this linked bug report:

  • Main machine: iMac 2019 (21,5-inch 4k, 6core), 64GB RAM, 1TB nvme + 2TB ssd, running on Mac OS 13;
  • Display setup: 28" 5k Display (primary) + 21,5" iMac4k-Display for studio panels (secondary);
  • Keyboard layout: german apple extended keyboard (aluminium);

For avoidance of doubt, .mov screen recording converted to .mp4... A known and logged bug as mentioned above...

My Desktops are all just solid greys so I never noticed this before. That is so trippy. [old hippie flashback man emoticon]

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

The issue "[macOS] View Mode and Insert location button groups are transparent without a document opened in Light UI" (REF: AF-22) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.3.0.2083".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us.
