AffinityAppMan
Nice job on Affinity 2.0. I already purchased all apps. FEATURE REQUEST: It would be nice to see a type of VECTOR ERASER in Affinity Designer 2 that would allow us to quickly erase INTERSECTING LINES. This can dramatically increase productivity with illustrations. See attached video. Thanks!!! I am enjoying 2.0 !!! vector eraser demo.mp4 randomjames, nosey_gamedev, retrograde and 4 others
randomjames
Agreed. This was an old feature request from long ago. Would love to see it finally implemented.
Intuos5
This is such a basic feature I do not understand why it's not included.
GarryP
This sort of thing can already be done using the Shape Builder Tool (hold Alt while clicking on the superfluous line ends) but, currently, it won’t preserve the absolute brush widths along the curves, if the brush width varies. And you have to select the curves first or click on the layer they are in. All extra work, which takes away creative energy. I just want to hit E and erase over or hold a modifier when I have the brush active and paint to erase. lepr
GarryP
The Shape Builder Tool was only introduced in V2 so it’s still very young and has much promise. All we can do is wait and see what happens.

I'm not going to buy V2 because of this. It's such a simple feature to add, and I'm suspicious that Adobe has demanded that this feature not be included. 2ddpainter
@stereooptics I don't want to be too picky, but this is not a Vector Eraser. What is shown in the video above is a trimming feature and is commonly found in CAD programs. As far as I know, “ClipStudioPaint” has such a tool and “VectorStyler” has it too. There it is called “Trim and Join” tool.
sgroenig
Agree This would be a great feature. Could be included along with the new Knife tool. ashf
Eternaute
Hi Serif team, Hi Everybody, I love Designer and all Affinity softs that are in my opinion a game changer in many aspects. CMYK on iPad ! A dream for me... But I think some few things will make Designer much more convenient for professional work. I used Adobe softwares during 20 years and I am working almost each day mainly on my Affinity softwares for more than 5 years now, on Mac and most of the time on my iPad for drawing purposes. I have to say that for professional use, many ergonomic things could be improved. And as an illustration professional, the lack of a simple vector eraser is a real nightmare. I couldn't imagine that such a basic feature would missing when I bought Affinity 1.5... I wait since and many things have been improved but I still need other apps like Illustrator because of a few things really needed. I bought Affinity 2.0 suite to support Serif for its development but I am tired to wait years for some basic evolution. Yes I would like advanced features in AD but first the basics, such as a vector eraser that does exist in many vector apps like Illustrator, Inkscape, Amadine or Vectornator.... Please Affinity, listen to that ! Do not wait the 3.0 version… After many updates the lack of this kind of functionality is a real frustration and still avoid the increase of productivity. We are now talking about AI everywhere and we still wait for basics features such like a vector eraser, this is really difficult to understand. There are other features that would be useful for my dreamwork like gradient mesh, a frame template tool to make comics pages and balloons with text and styles also for comics (like in CSP), vector halftones and Bitmap mode with halftones conversion (like in Photoshop) and halftones layers… And still ergonomic modifications on iPad and Mac to spend less of "clics" to do things. Time is so important for pros. But all of that won't be totally efficient without a… simple yet good vector eraser ! A basic one would be obviously appreciate but an Eraser being able to erase with all vector brushes and with free shapes what's underneath and being able as an option to erase intersections (like in the video above) would be so useful ! Many thanks for hearing that request. Wish it would improve those already very nice software and being an even more complete professional alternative. nosey_gamedev
I am upvoting this. I'm on the trial version of the Affinity Suite and drawing with the vector brush in Designer. Since I couldn't find the eraser tool I had to google, and to my absolute surprise there is none. I was happy with the software up until this point. The lack of a simple eraser tool in a software program which lets you draw is a dealbreaker for me. Any updates on if this is being worked on would be welcome, otherwise I'll have to look at alternatives I'm afraid.
Komatös
@nosey_gamedev You could use the shape builder tool as a quick and dirty alternative. FastVector
If you are missing tools and features in Affinity Designer take a look at Vectorstyler (Eraser Tool, Gradient Mesh, Vector Brushes, Halftone conversion, Image Trace, Blend Tool etc). For me the program is complementary to Affinity. And using the clipboard, makes that I can copy easily my work to the other program. Of course I also would like to see those features in the near future in Designer. But till then I use Vectorstyler as an extra tool. Both have still Black Friday Sales! So It is a no brainer to have both. On 9/23/2023 at 4:45 PM, Eternaute said: Hi Serif team, Hi Everybody, I love Designer and all Affinity softs that are in my opinion a game changer in many aspects. Yes, it would be a good idea to have two purposes in the same tool rather than adding a new tool. They are similar. but better to change the tool name.
