I baught Affinity Photo it tookmy money and wont load

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, Bernard.

I'm uncertain if you're saying it won't download, or if you're saying it won't run after you install it. Can you clarify that, please, along with the questions that wonderings asked?

Hi

I bought Affinity direct from your website.

Loaded AFFINITY PHOTO  to my PC (Windows 7) appears to be OK,  but can not load JR Macros despite following guidance given

Tried SEVERAL TIMES TO load it on to my Laptop (Windows 7 pro)

(where all my photos are stored and will normally be edited! ) and will not load at all -haven`t even tried loading JR Macros

Google Affinity photo

Menu> My account> Sign in> Download and Product keys>

Affinity Photos Windows Version 1.8.3 Click Download

Download 516Mb 3 mins

Click Open

Do you want to run this file Click Run

Black box labelled Affinity Photo appears in the middle of the screen- still there after half an hour

Affinity Photo logo appears on task bar

  • Box appears This programme might not have installed properly
  • Reinstall using recommended settings
  • Do you want to run this file? Click Run

Black box labelled Affinity Photo appears in the middle of the screen- still there after half an hour

Help!

Cheers

Dave

Where do we go now?

Are you running the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Pro SP1 on your laptop, and do you have the Platform Update installed?

There is no phone help line as far as i know.

Try the Contact Us link at the bottom of this or any other forum page.

After I have sorted this out I still have to find out how to load Macros!

Single macros (*.macro) are loaded via the Macros panel but collections of macros (*.macros) are loaded via the Library panel.

I am curious for those who bought and it will not load, did you try the demo out? Did that install fine?

I am curious as to whether that’s a rhetorical question! If the trial version works OK and you purchase a licence from the Affinity Store, you don’t need to install anything new: you simply run the installed trial version again and choose to enter the product key when prompted.

If you're having trouble installing on Windows, have you tried the suggestions in the FAQ?

Do you really need to run the installer again just to enter the license key? Would think there would simply be an option to authorize and de-authorize

No. If you have the trial installed, and you then purchase, all you need to do is enter the product key and email.

I think that's why Alfred was puzzled by your question.

By way of explanation- I only ever installed the trial version on my PC.

But bought it on the basis of the small print which said it could be installed on more than one device using the same platform, the bought version has loaded to my PC.  I also want to install it on my laptop now which is my photo library

Hi @poldendave & @dtmcc,

Welcome to the forums and I'm very sorry to hear you're having trouble.

Can you please both take the time to read the below post, which provides steps for both updating your version of .NET and forcing Affinity to use the correct graphics card, which can both be causes of the issue you've reported.

If you're still having trouble after following these steps, please provide a screen recording or multiple screenshots, showing the steps you take and the results you see on screen when trying to install the Affinity app.

Many thanks in advance!

Please Note: I am now out of the office until Tuesday 2nd April on annual leave.

If you require urgent assistance, please create a new thread and a member of our team will be sure to assist asap.

Many thanks :)

Hi Walt

Afraid I am not good on computers...just a user!

re Set up Failed Error

Followed Leighs advice

  • No previous versions of AFFINITY PHOTO on the machine-
  • All exe files from previous attempts to load deleted
  • Laptop switched off and back on- tried to instal again..NO PROGRESS Note version of Affinity photo is 1.8.3 direct from Affinity
  • Right click exe file - select run as administrator- Plain black box (Affinity Photo in top LH side appears as before

So no further ahead.

Can`t spend any more time on it right now..

Rgds

Many people like me, have read the FAQ's ... Know what ? we are not computer technicians nor are we "most of us"  computer academies, we are end users,  a lot of us are photographers, (maybe)  try and get the writers of the software to use camera equipment to produce NOT SNAPS but good art work photographs for a paying client, I would at a guess say they would be on their knees  crying asking how does that lighting flash system work.

This IS the downfall of all software, get the paying customer to test it, class example is microsoft look at how bad win8 was and 10 is not much better, virus spyware ridden cra~

I told Serif, many years ago when they released the beta version of this software that it should also be released on disc

Can you please provide a screenshot of the window you see when trying to install Affinity? I'd like to make sure I've understood this issue here and I can then provide some (hopefully) simplified steps for you to follow.

Unfortunately putting the installer on a disc would not change any of this behaviour, it would use the same installer process that is causing you issues.

Please Note: I am now out of the office until Tuesday 2nd April on annual leave.

If you require urgent assistance, please create a new thread and a member of our team will be sure to assist asap.

Many thanks :)

The whole Affinity suite runs fine here on my 11 year old Windows 7 laptop and my brand new Acer Aspire laptop with Windows 10. I do not believe Serif just took your money and then dropped out when having a problem because that is not the way they work. I can understand your disappointment but that does not give you the right using such harsh wording in your title. Their staff members do what they can to help you, please show a bit more respect.

I install a new system from scratch every year in the two last years. Before, I ran the same system for 5 years giving me a lot of problems. Despite the problems, I got everything worked but on the price of spending a lot of time solving those problems.

It is much more beneficial spending a few days a year installing a clean system than struggling with a bits and pieces crappy system. You do not have to be a computer expert to make a clean install, only being prepared, take a backup from everything on your hard disk and watch some Youtube tutorials for the system you want to re-install.

By the way, can you remember when you last made a clean install?

Excellent advice. I try to keep my system clean but cruft creeps in and after a clean install I am amazed how much better everything works.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.0 | Affinity Photo 2.4.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Hi Dan

Thank you and everyone else who is trying to help me get the problem(s) sorted. i really appreciate it.

To recap

Acer laptop (Windows 7 pro) is essentially my photo library backed up on a Toshiba hard drive............so to me it is essentially a filing cabinet. I only connect it to the internet rarely when I want to load or use a program. I have AVG free installed on both devices and on the PC run regularly, on the laptop run when I connect to the internet

I have successfully I think loaded AFFINITY PHOTO to my PC but it would be a lot easier to work with photos on  the laptop rather than have to transfer the photos I want to work with to the PC by memory stick.

I do not have e-mail on my laptop so am going to run the download trial again and photograph the screen as I can not send screenshots.

So here goes

Connect to internet

Google Affinity

Go to My account- Orders downloads and product keys----Sign in to Your Affinity account (Photo)

Downloads and product keys

Screen showing Affinity Photo download ( hopefully if we can get this sorted we can address the Macros download later) (photo)

Click Download 492 MB file 1.8.3 exe---- downloaded Click Open

Box comes up Do you want to run this file Click Run (Photo)

Black Box appears in the middle of the screen saying Affinity Photo top LH (Photo)

This is as far as I can go

I there any way I can run AFFINITY PHOTO on my laptop without connecting to the internet as I am aware that there is always the possibility of getting a virus into my laptop which would be a disaster.

All advice help etc much appreciated

kind regards

Dave P

Please don’t apologize! Your product key is unique to you and should not be shared publicly.
