  1. I've noticed a bug when merging layers down while they are part of a clipping mask. When you have more than one clipping layer on an object and you merge it down to the layer below it, it flattens the entire mask stack (including the parent layer) instead of just merging the two clipped layers. A bit tricky to articulate, but I've added an attachment here to try and visually explain what I mean.
  2. I can't find a simple way to merge layers in Designer. This really needs to be a capability of all the Affinity products. What I'm expecting to happen is to select multiple layers and then right click and merge them, but I can't and certainly not without multiple steps through various menus and then it ends up trimming off parts even if I manage to combine them. I get this is a vector program, but I can do this with other programs and what should happen is that the combined outer shape should get new vector points to draw that shape, taking into account negative space. The closest thing I can get to is combining all the selected layers into a group and then rasterizing the group. That's not the same thing I'm asking for but at least close. It's also multiple steps more than it needs to be.
  3. After I installed 3. update for all three programs, my apps are no longer linked together. Before, when I opened my Publisher file, the other two would open as well and would show on the top tool bar so I could jump between the three programs. Now, they are no longer linked and I have to open all three apps individually, which will make sharing and working on files between the three programs so much more difficult. Does anyone know why or have a solution to the problem? Was I on a beta testing or something because I read a question where someone "wished" they could do something like this, but I have been doing this for at least a year now... I want it back!!!!!
  4. It would be nice if the Focus or HDR merge could work on the images which are already open in Affinity, not having to find the images in the file system through an open dialog. This would be useful if another program is used as a DAM and/or RAW developer (in my case Capture One). The initial RAW development is done in Capture One, then I can send multiple images to Affinity. At this point I would like to invoke focus or HDR merge on these images (which are already open in Affinity.
  5. I need to do this so I can make a pixel layer to add some texture without the various shapes showing lines/edges. I';ve succewssfully done this with the rest of the image as you can see in the attached photo. But those were all single shapes. I made this alien's body in 4 different shapes but I want them completely merged. I thought I could group them and add new pixel layer... but no matter where I place the pixel layer... it's just not right. How do I merge these 4 shapes into 1 shape? Not just group them. I feel like it's an obvious answer....
  6. Hi all! I've moved to Affinity Designer recently and still have problems with some tools. In this video I use Figma to show the result I am expecting. I drew 3 lines, merged them and filled with a color. In the end I can control stroke and filling of the shape. Figma video In the next video I use Affinity for drawing with a vector brush. Since lines are ready, I chose Pen Tool and pressed Join curves, but lines didn't merged. The result aren't clear form me. Why only side points have connected? Luckily I found Merge function in Layer / Geometry menu. This function is the only, which is missed in top panel. Is it possible to add this button to the panel somehow? I merged the lines and tried to fill the shape with a color. Result is unexpected again. What I am doing wrong? Thanks a lot. Affinity video
  7. Hi, I'm trying to build a phone directory booklet with Affinity. Let's go so far as to say that I can export the data from a spreadsheet and/or database in just about any conceivable format, I'm wondering what the right was is to pull it into Affinity Publisher using styles. Say, for instance, that each entry should look like: Smith, John 123 Main St. Blankendale, MN 88304-0014 816.929.4030 https://johnisgreat.com/fake-url-for-example-purposes Without going through every single entry manually (I have about 500 of them) and setting the style, what's the right way to do this in Affinity? I'd love to hear from Serif. In the end, I'm trying to produce a two-column staple-together booklet that I can update the bulk of the data via automation. Advice, tricks, tips, and warnings welcome.
  8. Hi all, On Affinity designer for Ipad, how would you merge two pixel layers: I started a drawing. I accidentally finished the drawing in a different pixel layer. Now I still want the drawing all in one layer. I've been looking everywhere, and I can't find something where I can merge down one layer into the other. Actually, I think this has been asked before, but they mention a 'Rasterize' action that I can't find (and also, I'm reluctant to rasterize a pixel layer)
  9. This is a bit tricky to explain, so please bare with me. 😅 I've noticed that when you have a few layers in a group, and the group itself has FX applied, when you merge layers within the group Affinity auto commits the FX, and because the layers are still in the group with FX applied, they get a second instance of the FX. Here's a quick example. I have a layer group with three layers. The group itself has an "Outer Shadow" effect applied, but the individual layers don't have any FX applied to themselves - see attachment. As such, the layers within the group are effected by the FX applied to the group itself, but when you remove them from the group the FX are no longer applied. With that in mind, I merged one of the layers in the group with the layer below it (also in the group) and now the Outer Shadow effect is automatically baked into the merged layers while still being applied to the group as a whole. I definitely don't think this is intentional/by design, as the layers within the group should surely remain untouched by the FX until the entire group is merged/rasterised. Let me know if you need more clarity - I can try and take a screen recording if that will help to explain.
  10. When I use layers -> merge selection, the layer on top is marge as if it was under ... (ctrl + Maj + E).
  11. I purchased Affinity Photo for multi-layered pixel art creation, but I'm finding that I cannot use the Merge Layers or Rasterize layer features because they automatically choose a filtering algorithm which causes blurring. How can I fix this? This currently is a deal-breaker for me unfortunately. I've tried the following: Using Nearest rendering in the Performance settings (this causes everything to look as I expect on the canvas while editing the document, but the blurring problem occurs as soon as a multi-layer document is merged, exported/flattened, or a layer is rasterized) Choosing Nearest filtering during PNG export. For some scenarios this appears to work around the issue, but for general purposes it's not a solution since I frequently need to be able to merge selected layers together as part of my workflow without exporting the entire document I still cannot find any way to merge layers or rasterize selected layers using Nearest filtering. The result is that my artwork frequently is distorted/blurred from what I'm seeing in the on-screen canvas/display. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

Recently when I moved into more pixel transforming/merging workflow thanks to my job I'm constantly annoyed by this. Well known bug/unnatural design that people we're reporting for YEARS now still not fixed. When you merge 2 images by Layers/Merge Selected, both images get blurry and unusuable. It is really that hard to make it actually just MERGE without making both merged images look DIFFERENT than before merging? Why overcomplicate things when you can surely implement some automatization that make this basic feature function without working with transform panel all the time? mergeexample.afphoto
  13. I'm using the new 1.8.2 Designer on my mac - the expand option is improved and so are the boolean operations - but sometimes I still get "dirty" merges with millions of extra nodes. Is this normal?
  14. Hi Guys... I just switched over my actual book project to publisher 1.8 and run into a heavy bug ... over a felt number of 300 pages I cannot scroll down to work in that pages above... They did import correctly, and i can see them all in the pages panel... but i cannot access them to work in that text. Even when i zoom out or try to jump through text .... PS: Page 286 is the end... I can see all the following pages in the panel, but when I doubleclick on it nothing moves in the main window.
  15. Hi all, I'm trying to figure out if Affinity can do what I need as is. Here is a video where Peter Zelinka describes the process using Photoshop and a plug-in. "Star Tracker Blending Tutorial - Using Luminosity Masks" https://youtu.be/x2dVRoyyFrc Basically, he takes a stacked image of the milky way and merges it with the foreground shot. As you may know, start trackers track the sky so you get clear focused starts, but that blurs the landscape. In this case, he takes two perfect images and merges them together. What I'd like to know is, can I do this using Affinity Photo? If so, can you point me to a video or text that explains the process. Thank you so much in advance!
  16. There doesn't seem to be a way to merge an adjustment layer with the vector objects it is applied to. I already made a post asking about how to accomplish this here: But there doesn't seem to be a practical way to do it. This is frustrating because the HSL layer, for example, is an amazing way to recolor your artwork that is rendered almost useless when you can't merge it with the vector objects it is applied to. Adobe Illustrator has had a recolor feature for years and the only reason I'm not making the switch to AD is this. Merging adjustment layers would fix this issue completely and would be an amazing (and logical) addition to AD.
  17. I have a layer containing several vector objects. On top of that is an adjustment layer. I need to merge the adjustment layer with the vector objects but the "merge" button in the adjustment layer settings doesn't do anyhing. I also tried adding the adjustment as a child of the object layer or to a single object, but it still doesn't work. I have attached a simple file as an example. How do I merge the layer? 18. Hi, Can anyone help me find the best way to merge three (bracketed) raw files without using the automatic hdr process. I would simply like to use my own masking process to create the result. Must I process the raw files first then load tifs into a stack? Or is there another way?
  19. I have two same construction Designer files which contains the same layers. I would like to merge them into one two-page Publisher file. I had read one Designer file and after that I placed other file onto the first file as the second page, but the layers disappeared.
  20. I've noticed this feature being asked about in other threads and wanted to share my desire for batch merging to HDR in Affinity Photo. As someone who does a lot of HDRI work I've gone through my fair share of different software searching for the best results (Photomatix, HDR Expose, Dynamic Photo HDR along with pano stacking with Autopano Giga and PTGui etc). After purchasing Affinity Photo I've found that in most if not all cases it's HDR merging has the best automatic ghost removal and processing of any app I've used, yet it's the only one without some sort of batch tools for multiple stacks. Currently I am manually sorting through 500+ separate stacks for a project I'm working on and would greatly appreciate (as well as pay for) a means of running these through a script to automate it all.
  21. Coming from 20+ years using Adobe Flash as my vector editor, I have difficulty with a few concepts in Affinity Designer that are way more complicated than I was expecting. Maybe I haven't figured this out yet, but: - why can't I just merge stacking vector layers into a single shape? Not as various objects in a layer, but joined together as one single shape? - why can't I just select a line-section between two anchorpoints an delete it? (break curve doesn't seem to be the solution for this...) Also I miss options like expand and contract fills(?) Maybe this is part of me getting to know Designer, but for me these are basic features for a vector based editor...
  22. The Stacking option under File->New Stack etc. is great, what I really wish for though, would be the option to do this with already loaded layers and also the stacking tool taking any masking into account. This is vital when stacking milkyway images, since it usually aligns to the foreground and not to the stars, which can be compensated for when you mask out the foreground. Cheers
  23. This subject is being discussed in two other threads. But in each case, the discussion has shift towards peripheral considerations, leaving no chance for the initial question to be answered. I voluntarily put here no links to those threads in order to prevent readers to be parasitised by pheripherical and noisy considerations. What should be strictly discussed here : The "Merge Down Layers" (Ctrl+Shift+E) , a very common frequently used command, in some case (see details below) currently corrupts the image: contents of merged layers are blurred. Question: is there a good functional reason for this function to work so, knowing there's a simple way (doing a rasterization of the bottom layer before merging) to achieve the expected result : a merge that simply preserve the data of each layer ? Or is there currently an option to be activated to achieve in any case automatically the expected result ? Details : afphoto file attached to reproduce the bug reproduced in : and Beta on Windows 10 and 1.6.11 on macOS Sierra reproduced with "Force Pixel Alignment" or "Floating point coordinates" options on and off: those options are no way a solution to this problem. a simple way to reproduced the bug with two pixel layers is to apply a transformation on the bottom layer before merging (note: by doing so, coordinates of the layer are no more integer ones) a simple way to prevent it : rasterize the bottom layer before merging For many users, the current behavior of the merge function is a fondamental problem (you can corrupt your work with one click if you're not aware). We would be glad to have an answer to the question above or the function to be fixed. Cos there is no technical limitation considering our use (it may not be elegant, but the merge function could simply process a rasterize operation before applying, which is the manual action required currently if you want to preserve the quality of your image). PS: actually, there's a video that illustrates this tricky behavior here Demo . See the seventh post
  24. I am creating a nebula backgroud. The affinity image is looking good, but when i try and export the image or merge the bottom but one layer I get something totally different. Nothing appears to allow me to get the 1st image
