  1. Hi, I just purchased AP a few days ago, and I’m very new here, so please sorry if my question seems obvious, but I looked for an answer for hours in AP, and on this forum, and never found. My question is very simple : I’d like to use the dodge tool on my landscape photos (as shown in this video : https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/tutorials/photo/ipad/video/286346192/ but it doesn’t work on certain pictures, and works on others... Even if I use the same parameters... I can’t find the explanation. Would someone take the time to explain me why? Thank you by advance.
  2. Hi guys! New rendering of Viper SRT-10. Everything is made in 3d, except the mountain background. Postproduction done in Photo. Software: 3ds max, Corona, Affinity Photo, Forest Pack, Quixel Megascans Hope you like it!
  3. Hello All, I recently started using Affinity photo. As there are so many tutorials on Dodge and Burn for Photoshop, so i wanted to replicate the same in Affinity Photo. When you do Dodge and Burn in Photoshop, then you can change the Feather option by going >Windows>Properties>Feather. It's a shortcut for doing Dodge and Burn. Can someone please tell me if we can do the same in affinity Photo, i couldn't find the Properties option for my layer. I can get almost same result with Gaussian Blur. But i am curious if there is any Properties option hidden Apologies if this question is very basic, i haven't completed more than 1 hour using Affinity photo in total till now (I bought last year though )
  4. Photoshop has a saturation / desat brush nested in the dodge & burn brush tools. Can't find tyhis in Affinity Photo. The only way I can see of applying saturation to a specific area is by selecting it first - & this doesn't allow subtle changes. Can anyone help?
  5. Hi Im new to Affinity having been using Adobe products for years. Its a steep learning curve, with some great tools and some that perform oddly The dodge tool performs oddly in my opinion compared to photoshop if you set the opacity too high, it doesn’t just lighten the colour a lot; it literally destroys it. Some areas almost completely lose their colour, others completely alter. Working with part of a face in deep shadow, the one area went totally gray, the other a bright tan. In general, my way of working in Photoshop was to either slightly over-dodge or over burn and then use the fade menu command to get the shading or toning of an area absolutely perfect. In fact the Fade command is one of my most used commands as it is like fine tuning a radio. But IMO the dodge tool in Affinity is poorly implemented in terms of what it delivers and needs some attention unless I’m missing something. Peter
  6. I have used the Dodge and Burn tools on the iPad version for a while and have always wondered how the little color wheel with a lock in the middle is used, and the gray target with the pen in the bullseye. What's that for? When I tap my Apple pencil, or finger, on them, nothing seems to change with the tool's performance other than they get a gray highlight around them. I've learned a lot from videos, but none seem to go through each tool with a detailed explanation.
  7. Can anyone please confirm that when using dodge and burn tools, when I select the tonal range it should allow me to specifically target highlights/midtones/shadows on the source layer? If so, then it seems that it doesn't work at all - instead when choosing highlights, the dodge tool works with more intensity, but ignores the tonal range setting I chose. Can anyone confirm this behaviour? I'm really confused and when watching tutorials it seems that it should work in a very different way.
  8. Hi, It seems to me that the Protect hue option in the Burn and Dodge tools is not working. The result is identical no matter if it's on or off. For comparison, in Photoshop if I turn on this option there's a very clear difference in the result. So is it something with my settings in Affinity Photo or is it a bug? I use the latest official version of Photo. Thanks in advance!
  9. It would be very useful to apply dodge and burn as a gradient, not just as a brush. Also, Also, it is a nuisance that the box of the blend range opens always in the center of the image with which you are working. And having to move it aside, each and every time you open it, so that it does not hinder the vision of the changes you make. Thanks and regards.
  10. Hello all... I am trying out the iPad version of Photo and really loving it. I have all the photoshop shortcuts down from years of use and spending some time figuring out the transitions needed. Prblem I am having is in two ares... 1 - When I make a selection in the selection persona and make my adjustments in the photo persona I can’t find the way to then deselect the marching ants! Why is there not (unless I am just missing it) a “deselect” or “hide” command? 2 - Why can’t I just paint a mask to do my adjustments with? One would think having a paintbrush to quickly paint over an area to do burn/dodge or the like would be a no brainer. THis is the only reason I use photoshop fix, it is soooooo simple to make these adjustments. Again, I may just be missing it so please help me out. Thanks! Bruce

I have recently got affinity photo for iPad and am having a variety of issues. I use a Sony a7ii and can't load raw files. Dodge and burn refuses to work for me. I have iPad Pro 10.5. Other things are problematic at times. please advise..
  13. hi guys, I'm new to the forum and signed up because I've noticed a problem with AP when I use dodge or burn. If I use dodging multiple times, I have noticed some very ugly artifacts in form of a sharp, ugly looking uneven border in the area applied. Is this a known bug? Thanks
  14. hi i have reviewed the tutorial of D&B and now use it regularly. because i use it regularly i made two layers 'dodge, burn' and grouped them together. when i want to use them i copy them from the original to the photo i am working on. my issue is the burn tool works but not the dodge tool. if i make a separate layer the dodge tool works. this is the same on many photos. when i go back to the original photo the dodge tool works. the layers are activated. thanks in advance, hope that made sense Alan
  15. Hi! Is anyone know where can I find burning tool in Affinity windows version? On mac there is no any problems, but I'm afraid that win version has no this tool. Someone help please. Regards! Marek
  16. Can anyone tell me how to do a proper dodge and burn layer? All I seem to be able to do is to duplicate a background layer and then burn or dodge on it. Is this the only way? I can't seem to figure out how to do a proper 50% grey layer and use that for dodging and burning. Maybe that way isn't the way it's suppose to be done...I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers, Jason
  17. In Photoshop I use the dodge- and burn-tools to fine-tune layer-masks – especially by hair. That technique can unfortunately not be implemented with Affinity Photo. What are the chances that it works in the future?
  18. Is it possible to dodge/burn masks in Affinity Photo? I've tried it several times with different documents, but with no result … my fault? Greets, Tobi.
  19. I am using it to implement Ming Thein's workflow, who often uses selective dodging of highlights / burning shadows to increase local contrast. This works very well in Photoshop CS5: when applying dodge/burn brushes to highlights or shadows, they nearly do not affect midtones - ok. However in AP, when either highlights or shadows are selected also the midtones are affected heavily. This can only be worked around by reducing brush opacity to 10%, but then the intended effect is mostly gone. So IMHO a steeper separation between highlights, midtones and shadows would be needed. Secondly, it is annoying that the brushes change to their defaults for every newly opened image. I am pretty sure most users would prefer to keep the last used settings. Not sure if these are feature requests or bug reports ... Anyway, congratulations to this otherwise great application! Thanks, Georg
  20. I am finding that neither the Dodge Brush Tool nor the Burn Brush Tool function at all for me. Simply nothing happens when I attempt to use them. I've adjusted the opacity and size and even tried using them within a selected area and then without any specific selection active. Just giving you a heads up! But, I think you guys definitely are on to something and I am very glad to see something so compatible to Photoshop at a price that everyone can afford, so thanks! :D
