  1. Hi everyone, I've just put three tutorials on YouTube aimed at complete beginners, although slightly more experienced users of Affinity can get something out of the third one. So here they are: https://youtu.be/mYwjdx9FJRA- Affinity Photo Tutorial for Beginners - 101 - don't panic! https://youtu.be/_sbuSNiiZWc- Affinity Photo Tutorial for Beginners - 102 - What is a Layer? https://youtu.be/aWx4X-Nes-s- Affinity Photo Beginners 103 - 5 Essential Photo Editing Steps If they are of some use to you then it's all good. Cheers, Simon Foster
  2. Hello everyone, I created a channel on youtube and I will put some tutorials on Affinity. Follows the first video. https://goo.gl/vKPmd5 tutorial_mockup.zip
  3. This is my first Affinity Designer tutorial. It creates a Captain America Shield using both vector and pixel personas. It's recorded in realtime and about 50 min long. https://youtu.be/zTXW8Ku8rqU
  4. Hey all, The Windows beta of Photo is now available to try for free! Grab it here: https://affinity.serif.com/blog/affinity-photo-for-windows-is-available-now/ Here's a short (8 minute) video that just runs through a few of the basics for the Photo Windows beta and will hopefully answer some questions you may have: Direct link if you can't fullscreen the video: https://vimeo.com/190854361 It covers the concept of personas, opening images, panels, raw file development and exporting. I'd also just like to point out that we have over 120 video tutorials for Photo available in the In-house Affinity Photo Video Tutorials thread (currently at 130 and counting ;)). They are all macOS-based, but you will find that both the interface and functionality translate to the Windows version, and so I hope you'll find them useful. If you have any questions please ask. All the best, James
  5. I saw a picture with the attachment in the dispersion on the website which is made by photoshop. I really want to use affinity to achieve this effect. But after a long time researching, I still can't figure it out. Is there anyone can give me a hand? Thank you !
  6. Hey guys - I'm really keen to start painting in Affinity Photo. I have bought Astropad to use it with my iPad and downloaded loads of abr. format brushes. I was surprised, though, at the lack of information/content online for use of AP for digital painting/sketching etc. I wondered if anyone could direct me to any tutorials or resources that you've come across that might help me get started and learn more. Many thanks Chris
  7. Hi all, I begin a series of French tutorial for Affinity Designer. Hope you will enjoy! Here my latest video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-bNL8-27L4 VesGames
  8. Recently the affinity website change the tutorial link and takes you to Vimeo channel. I prefer how it was before because it allow you to watch in a more organized way the video by products (designer and photo). If the Vimeo channel become more organized it will be fine.
  9. Hey guys and gals here is a repost I added in the Workbook thread. Now that the book is out I can finally post my contribution. Rather than uploading here I thought I'd just include a link to my Behance page discussing it. Enjoy! Kevin aka retrograde. ______________________ Repost: If anyone is interested in a closer look at my workbook tutorial contribution follow the link below. I uploaded a few images of the finished piece (for the tutorial you'll have to grab the book :-) ...along with some information on the tutorial in general and some of what you can expect from it and the book. I was honoured to be asked to participate in the project and I can honestly say the book is gorgeous and chock full of great stuff, art and information! The Serif team has really created a beautiful, well designed user manual that just happens to double as a coffee table book! https://www.behance.net/gallery/44223009/Affinity-Designer-Workbook-tutorial
  10. Back when I started Beta testing AD for Windows (which seems like a long time ago, even though it was not :)), naturally, I went through all the official AD tutorials on Serif’s web site (and some unofficial ones on YouTube) to see what it can do, so I know what to test. Having watched them all, some more than once, I concentrated on the testing. Well, just today, I went back to the Serif tutorial pages and was pleasantly surprised to find a number of new tutorials specific to v.1.5. They have added many nice new features I didn’t know about. If you have not visited the tutorial pages lately, I suggest you do so. Not just so you can get impressed (which you will), but so you know what new things you may want/need to test, since of course if we don’t know about some of the features, we won’t Beta test them. Adam P.S. No doubt some of the people reading this work for Serif’s competition. That’s fine, of course. I do, however, want to suggest you make sure to be seated when you go visit the newest tutorials, as you may get quite dizzy seeing all the new ideas and things. :P
  11. Hey guys, I just wanted to let you all know that I started a YouTube channel that is dedicated to making Affinity Photo tutorials. I have 9 videos posted now, but will definitely be making more. I really love Affinity Photo, and although I'm not a master, I wanted to share the things that I have learned! :) Dispersion Effect Turn any Photo into a Pencil Drawing Giving Photos an Old Look Put a Lake in a Light Bulb Double Exposure Effect Remove Unwanted Objects/People from the Background Set the Earth on Fire Remove/Change the background How to change colors in a photo Let me know what you think of them! And let me know any suggestions you have for future tutorials. Thanks! Ezra
  12. Hi, I wanted to let people know that I've added about an hour and twenty minutes of practice videos to the course, which takes the total time to about 9 hours worth of content. I've uploaded all the photos that I use so you can have a go at the exercises. I recently added most of the photos I use for the original videos so you can follow along with those as well. The course price won't change and of course this is all free to existing users. I just wanted to make the course better. You can check it out here: https://www.udemy.com/affinityphoto-solid-foundations/ Thanks for your time, Drippy Cat

  14. I have no association with Udemy or Simon Foster but I learned a TON at a slow but informative and entertaining pace. Can't recommend them enough. Thank you Simon ! https://www.udemy.com/affinityphoto-solid-foundations/ https://www.udemy.com/affinity-photo-raw-image-development/ It sure upped my game as a newbie to layered photo apps. Jeff
  15. So, here we go again. This was originally created over a year, thanks to Supervolting on here for bringing it back to my attention. I have reworked the tutorial and it's less than 5 now and simplified. It's a really cool way to show of your videos or pictures and a great way to see how you can work with other apps in your workflow by starting in Affinity... Enjoy... (and click subscribe) ;) Creating a Mask Overlay Tutorial Allan
  16. I'm fairly new at graphics, but I'm running into a problem I'm not sure how to solve. I need to create an angled cap to lines I'm placing in a graphic. The lines are only 2.5 width, so I haven't been able to add a shape to the end on them to create the angles, nor can I place the lines behind a layer to cut them off at the correct angle for this particular graphic. Is there a way to angle the caps of the lines?
  17. As a complete newbie to Affinity Photo (and with no PS experience) I would like to know if anyone can point me to a decent vimeo/youtube/whatever video tutorial on how to prepare a photo with CMYK output for silkscreening (with frequency&angles for each channel, +anything on adding single spot colors to a screenprint. There are a few on youtube for Photoshop but I have not been able to find anything comparable for Affinity Photo. Thanks for any help.
  18. One of my new Instagram friends, Lindsey Slutz, @east_coast_charm has just released a course at SkillShare called "Creating Patterns in Affinity Designer. To launch it, she's making it free to the first 25 who sign up. (As of this writing, there are 9 spots left.) If there's still room, the link will be in her bio... https://www.instagram.com/east_coast_charm/ The class is short and the steps are very clearly explained. I think it's a great introduction to Affinity Designer, whether or not you want to create patterns. :) I really wish I'd seen it before I tried teaching myself A.D.
  19. You guys should create a tutorial on how to match the color and tone of any photo because I am completely lost on how to do this on affinity. I can only find videos on how to do this for photoshop which aren't much help. Thanks!
  20. I tried to align 3 artboards like in the tutorial (around time 3:50): But in Win Beta 1.5.0.5 it won't snap for me. I try to follow the same procedure: add 3 artboards manually arrange them next to each other with some space between them in the layerview select all 3 with shift follow the steps like in the video: click arrange --> align top click arrange --> space horizontally --> deselect auto distribute --> leave default 0 mm --> click OK nothing happens
  21. A white point panel which enables setting the white point. I don't really understand the use of the current white point panel. There is no tutorial about this crucial aspect of processing. So, feature request: white point set: click a Kodak grey card in your photo and have all colors reset a usage tutorial for this proposed feature, and a tutorial about the current white point panel - how best to workaround current limitations...
  22. Hello fellow affinity photo users. I have been trying to find a tutorial on soft dreamy post process for portraits, but I haven't found any for affinity photo yet. Anyone know of any resources or some advance user willing to post a tutorial would be greatly appreciated
  23. Affinity Designer for Windows v1.5.0.5 I have tried to follow the Complex Gradients Tutorial pausing the video at every step and following it to the letter, however the gradient shown in the video cannot be achieved in the Windows version of Affinity Designer, unless I am doing something wrong. I have tried to replicate the video at least four times but each time I get the same results. There is just no gradual grading between the nodes. Attached is a screen shot of the finished result.
  24. This article (in german) shows how to move your projects from CorelDraw to Affinity Designer: http://marketmix.com/de/von-coreldraw-zu-affinitydesigner-und-zurueck/ -- Harald
