Hi... wondering if this is just a weird newbie thing: 1. I created an 11"x17" poster in Designer with multiple elements. (i.e vector graphics, placed PNGs, text boxes etc.) This shows as a document with a white background, surrounded by the rest of the interface with a black background. 2. Now I want to experiment with the placement of components on the poster, so I created an artboard with the intention of moving some of the elements of the poster on to the artboard. This has the effect of changing the background of the whole screen to grey, (the pasteboard?) and it creates a blank artboard with a white background. The effect now is that the borders of my original document are no longer visible, and in fact I could move the elements of the poster on the pasteboard itself, (without an artboard at all.....). So, my question is, could someone explain (or point me to an explanation) of the artboards vs. pasteboards, vs. just plain documents..... and advise whether I should be actually doing this in Publisher, and not Designer....and simply create my graphics in Designer but do my document assembly in Publisher. Today I completed this artwork. Drawn in Affinity Designer, then color shifted in Affinity Photo, then my "chop" was added in Photoshop. Hi, I'm getting confused about how and when to use groups vs layers in AD. The question has been already discussed (previous discussion about groups and layers) but the answer seems to be unsatisfactory as it's full of personal opinions and the only video that seems to answer the question is not available anymore. So, if there is any solid, official answer to the question: what is the difference between LAYERS and GROUPS in Affinity Designer?, please post it here, so people like me, looking for it, will find it in the future. Thank you.

This has been a work in progress for seemingly ages and thought I would post and it might jolt me back in to trying to finish it! As usual just the pen tool.

New drawing. Draw rectangle (Rectangle Tool). Select rectangle. Press C on keyboard to select corner tool. Nothing shows up in the Corner type on the context toolbar. Click on one of the corners. The corner node turns blue but still nothing on the Corner type. Is it me?

hey there, when I always try to use the pencil tool, is very overwhelming to close the path when I draw free hand shapes. my suggestion would be, if the user draw any shape and hold the pencil/mouse for few secs, the Path close automatically. and please I believe this tool Needs to have a big review for free hand vector drawings Why? Sculpt mode doesn't work as we want. the nodes generated are too crazy Establisher function works well sometimes, however Window stabiliser generates multiples nodes at the beginning of the path, it's not optimised to use properly. I hope this can give to the team a nice direction for the improvements of this amazing software. regards Jhon

I cannot get my pixels brush to paint anything in affinity designer. What am I doing wrong? I have the latest version 7.1. I have Windows 10 with plenty of space and ram, so that isn't the problem. I am new to this software, so I may be doing something wrong. Rosalie Scanlon

Does anybody know how I can scale my Objects with strokes and gradients percentually so they doo't look messed up after scaling them? I don't mean proportional just percentual so I don't have to adjust gradients & strokes. Many thanks in advance

Is there a way to change which node in the red end node in a closed object? I am using some of the natural brush tools and would like to control where the "distressed" end of the stroke appears. I had it all planned out and then changed the layering and joined some objects and everything moved. Thanks - Heather

Something happened a few weeks ago and either designer stopped working or it crashed and now I cannot get it to run on my Mac. I even tried deleting the app and re-installing. I get the boot splash then it gets an exception. Is there some other file I should look at deleting or help with why it will not start? We often get questions from customers who are creating designs in Affinity Designer to be used with a Cricut cutting machine. As long as your document is setup correctly in Affinity Designer it should import into the Cricut Design Space app without any issues: Make sure your document is set 72 DPI The Cricut Design Space app will take all layers within your document and reorder them before cutting to prevent material wastage. If your design has multiple Curve Layers but you want to retain the layout of your document, you will need to merge all the separate Curve Layers into one Curve Layer. Select all the Curve Layers and go to Layer > Geometry > Merge Curves The Cricut Design Space app will push all layers within your document to the edge of the material when cutting. Again, this is to prevent material wastage. If you would like to add padding around your document, you can add a Rectangle Layer around your Curve Layers before merging all Curves into one layer We advise that you export to SVG, being sure to uncheck SetViewBox (under the 'More...' options) to ensure the correct size of the design is retained. If you've done all of the above and your design doesn't look correct when opened into the Cricut Design Space app, we suggest that you open the exported SVG into another app to see if it looks as expected. If it looks fine, this would indicate an issue with the Cricut Design Space app and we would suggest that you contact Cricut's support team to look into your issue further.
