  1. Has this issue been resolved? I use a font manager and I have not yet added these fonts to automatically load when the the design file is opened. Whether this would still be a problem with out using a font manager I don't know. 1. When the file is opened there is a popup that identifies the missing fonts and it disappears quickly. 2. In the character panel there is a missing fonts option that also identifies the missing fonts. 3. The problem is that those displays only identify the family typeface name and not the individual font names (bold, italic, etc) 4. So my images show three missing fonts of the Source Sans Pro typeface. There are 12 individual fonts that belong to this typeface. How am I supposed to identify outside of trial and error of loading fonts one by one to see which ones are used? I will submit this as a request if it has not been fixed yet . . .
  2. Hi, My first time creating a topic on this forum, please excuse any errors / oversights. Today I encountered this error on Affinity Designer 1.8.5.703 on Windows 10. I had 6 artboards in a file. I created slices and exported jpegs and closed the file. Later on when modifications were done to some of the artboards and ready for exporting slices again, the file kept on crashing when the slices panel was opened. On searching the forums for similar issues reported by others, I came across this (and other similar) thread(s):- I think this issue was addressed earlier, but has resurfaced in this version. I updated Affinity Designer to 1.8.5.703 last Saturday (19th Sept 2020) from the earlier version 1.8.4.x. Since my workflow (almost always) involves creating multiple artboards and exporting slices I can say with confidence that I have never encountered this issue earlier, i.e. since Nov 2019 when I began using Affinity Designer. In the meanwhile, I copied the artwork to a new file and refrained from creating slices. The new file has been behaving OK. Please let me know if you require additional inputs from me.
  3. Got to say i love affinity designer, and also affinity publisher, photo(though find its not too great for digital painting :( ) What your doing by creating a higly polished alternative to Ad*be is great. Theres only one thing ive notice that affinity designer lacks and thats free non distructive transform also perspective tool for both affinity programs could be useful.
  4. I'm running into a lot of difficulty in setting which side of a curve the text on a path feature chooses. I've linked a video, as I feel it's probably easier to demonstrate. https://youtu.be/SluRwNK3bUk I have a curve and I'm trying to type on the inside of it to hug the ellipse above it, but no matter where I seem to click near the curve, the text wants to go on the outside. As you can see I manage to make it work with the pen tool curve above the main piece, but the curve that I want to use isn't performing in the way documented from the help page. Is there something wrong with the path that needs to be addressed, or what am I doing wrong in this instance? Feature request to the developers: A handle allowing people to easily switch the side of the curve the text is on would be helpful. Thanks ahead of time for all the input provided!
  5. Hi everyone. I'm new to Affinity, I'm a sreen-printer and typography consultant, so I'm testing it for a possible switch from Adobe. But, I think Designes missed a very important feature of Illustrator, a dead-line to choose the switch. Illustrator can print on a Postscript file using the color separation feature, if I have a CMYK file, I can save a PS and give it to a RIP software or a "distiller" to crate a multipage PDF (C, M, Y, K in separated pages). I didn't found that in Designer... I attach a picture of Illustrator print window... Thanks!
  6. Please add the ability to add pure vector based vector brushes based on vector objects for texture instead of PNGs. For now we can only add pixel based vector brushes. Being able to add pure vector brushes based on vector objects would allow us to create vector based textures and designs, which would be much easier to handle for any kind of (print) production. For example I tried to separate the colours to a spot colour PDF for screen print from this awesome work by Pierre Kleinhouse made for the Affinity Work from home series https://youtu.be/lL6gc8Oi2uw .afdesign file on DropBox: https://affin.co/LD2020PierreKleinhouse It was sort of a nightmare. I couldn't find a way to create a vector based spray texture within the Affinity Suite like in the second screen shot with the chimney. Expand stroke, working with spot colours, working with boolean operations ... a lot would be easier.
  7. Hey everyone, I'm back with another video tutorial. This time, I've decided to create a minimalist vector illustration using Affinity Designer (Desktop version). I will be covering a few things in this illustration such as shape tools, pen tool, and geometry functions. Feel free to leave any feedback and I hope it will help you on your design journey. How to turn a sketch into a vector illustration in Affinity Designer (Desktop) Thanks, Mike
  8. I love using affinity designer on my iPad! I do animation on my iPad. Like flipaclip which I think is the best animation software on the iPad for the sake of adding video and audio and drawing over them frame by frame! but it’s not a vector based animation app like adobe animate. Which I need a vector based animation, I was wondering if there will be a future application? Oooorrrr adding a frame by frame timeline to affinity designer! Which would be amazing toooooo!!!!!!
  9. Hello, having some difficulty with masks in affinity designer. Is it possible to convert a mask to a pixel layer? Rasterise does nothing. How can you edit a mask when it's above another layer and not attached to one? Is it possible to invert a mask? using invert from the menu does nothing. Is it possible to view channels in affinity designer? I've searched for these questions but only find answers for affinity photo so any help would be much appreciated.
  10. Well, now that I've finished my video series, here's the final results. I made this on ipad in 30-45 minute sessions. Spent about 5 hours on it in total. Hope you guys enjoy! Let me know what you think!

  12. I've drawn an illustration of a crocodile for no reason except too much time. 🙂 I'am working with Designer and Photo on a windows pc with a wacom tablet attached. The original photo was taken by vaun0815 at unsplash.

  14. What is your operating system and version (Windows 10, OSX Mojave, iOS 12 etc)? macOS Big Sur 11.1 Affinity Designer 1.8.6 (trial version) What happened for you (and what you expected to happen) I want to remove "B" as a shortcut for the Pixel Tool, so it doesn't swap to Paint Brush Tool if I accidentally hit B twice. Every time I open the Designer, Pixel Tool has its shortcut set to "B". Provide a recipe for creating the problem (step-by-step what you did). remove the shortcut "B" for Pixel Tool. close Affinity Designer. open Affinity Designer again. Pixel Tool has its shortcut set to "B" again. also tried: Saving the shortcuts as a ".affshortcuts" file. Closing Affinity Designer. Going to "~/Library/ApplicationSupport/Affinity Designer" Replacing the "shortcuts.affshortcuts" file with mine. Opening Affinity Designer. The Pixel Tool is set to "B" again (it seems it's always reset to "B"?) Any unusual hardware (like tablets or external monitors or drives that may affect things) or relevant other applications like font managers or display managers. Second monitor ASUS, using HDMI cable Wacom Intuos tablet Did this same thing used to work and if so have you changed anything recently? (software or hardware) No
  15. I need arrowheads for paths (not as a area) that are exactly as wide as the line width. Unfortunately this can't be set (yet) either (see screenshot), corners stick out at the sides. It would be especially nice if I could create my own arrowheads, like in Illustrator.
  16. As a hobby, I make metro maps in Affinity Designer. I frequently work with 45 and 90 degree angles, and I rely heavily on the snapping feature. I just started a new project, and for some reason objects aren't snapping to the center of a diagonal line. They snap to the center of a horizontal and vertical line, but when I move a circle over to a diagonal one, nothing. No lines, nothing happens. I've tested every single snapping setting and nothing has worked. I attached the grid settings, as I was told that was most likely the root of the problem. Is there anything I've done that's caused this and how do I get it to snap again?
  17. When I start up AD, I get a blank field, as in older versions, which I like and which is what I want. BUT, once AD is open and I start a new file, I get the preset window pop-up, which I find very annoying. Is there a way of stopping this window from popping up please? Thanks. There are SS below showing what I want and what I do not want.
  18. Time for something different, a change from all the aviation. So I thought I would go all spacey and spend a cold and dreary Sunday on an icy moon around the planet Slattern.
  19. Assets from [Screech] inktober #09 Sharing a selection of vector assets Asset List subCategory List 35 Feathers 8 Fill texture patterns 14 Texture Groups 19 Texture Overlays 11 Trees/partial 13 Leaves 11 shapes Asset Sample Sheets PDF sample Sheet x2 (not all assets displayed) Single asset file with 7 subcategories Samples as displayed (had to change colour of some assets in library as don't display well on grey backgrounds) Also embedded repeating patterns (x2) had to be inserted to assets as group rather than embedded file (which is how I usually use them.) Enjoy! Hope you find them useful Vector Assets 01 01.pdf Vector Assets 01 02.pdf vectorAssets-Screech.zip
  20. When you can't think of anything else to do try self portrait in vector...... Antony
  21. I'm running into a weird problem: I created a style from a shape with a brush stroke set at 8px. When I apply the style to other shapes, however, the stroke width is random, sometimes it's 6.1 px, sometimes 4.2. In my mind it should ALWAYS be the same width. what gives?
  22. The last client illustration project I worked on in 2020, and the first one I've posted in 2021 - had an absolute blast creating this! 👾 I used Affinity Designer (for plotting the initial layout and perspective guides), and Affinity Photo, with an XP-Pen tablet, for the drawing/painting, colouring, and finishing effects. There's a bit more insight into the process on my Bēhance if anyone's interested: https://www.behance.net/gallery/111102577/Pips-Meadery-Code Hope you guys like it! Stay safe out there, Christi. 🤙 http://www.instagram.com/christidutoit
  23. Hi, I required Affinity Designer in november, so please bare with me. I saw Wonderwomen, a car and a plane made by really, really great artists. I have no intention to get that good, but to get better I need to share my work for getting suggestion and tips. I am at kindergarten level. Starting out with 2 courses at Udemy, watched dozens of youtube tutorials, and glad I got it so far. The fur on the head is kind of okay, the body does not really fit. thearms stick out too much, shadowing is pretty hard. THe eye is jpg, I was unsuccesfull in following 'art with Flo' . I can not get the mouth blend better, like the illustration from Deema Egerov. (I need other artists work trying to recreate to develop myself.) So if anyone has some time to get me some tips, I love to hear from you. Many thanks, Yolanda monster1F.afdesign
