@Hangman that’s pretty much it. Nice figuring out. In addition, the error increases by one artboard with every artboard that is added. I’ve attached a file that shows what you described.
@GabrielM thank you. I’ve checked  the problem happens on my work iMac too. That’s where this image comes from.

Looking at the 'x' node coordinates (as it doesn't seem to affect the 'y' coordinates) for the curves on your second artboard it appears that AD is taking it's zero ruler position for the second artboard from the top left corner of an imaginary third artboard positioned equidistant from the second one and therefore treating the second artboard 'x' coordinates as negative values from this zero point because the second artboard is to the left of the imaginary third artboard and it is including in its calculation the gap between the artboards.
In your file, the gap between the two artboards is 64.58mm, so if you were to add a third artboard of the same size to the right of the second with the same gap of 64.58mm and use the top left corner of the third artboard as the zero point to measure from then that ties in exactly with the 'x' node coordinates you are seeing on your second artboard.
Looks like a simple math error in the code where it is setting the zero point incorrectly each time a new artboard is added by a fixed multiple of the artboard width plus the gap between artboards. If you add a third artboard with the same graphic you'll see the 'x' coordinates are further out but by an additional artboard plus gap multiple.

    Thanks for the reply, @GabrielM.
I’ve done a little poking around and this is what I’ve found.
    — The problem also happens on documents created after the 1.7 update.
    — The problem seems to happen on all artboards except the top left artboard. If I move any artboard to the top left position, the node coordinates on that artboard are become correct.
    — Sometimes only one of the coordinates is wrong.
I’m working on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15 inch, mid-2015) running macOS Mojave 10.14.5. I use a late 2015 5K iMac at work. I haven’t had chance see if I can replicate the problem on my iMac but I will do on Monday.
I’ve attached a document that definitely has the problem I’ve described on my MacBook.

This build has been superseded by 1.7.1 announced here
We are pleased to announce a major update for the MacOS release of Affinity Designer, version 1.7.0
The changes in Affinity Designer for MacOS 1.7.0 over the last Affinity Designer patch 1.6.1 (1.6.5 PK) are as follows:
    CHANGES SINCE LAST VERSION
    Tools
We've overhauled most of the core tools, adding subtle new features to make you more productive. New Point Transform Tool allows you to scale and rotate objects from any node. The Node Tool now contains a 'Transform Node' option which provides a containing box for the selected nodes and allows for more freeform editing of the nodes. New 'Cube' grid setup mode (take a look in 'View' -> 'Grid and Axis Manager...'). Pen tool now has a 'rubber band' mode and also a mode to allow future curves to be added to the current object's curves (for example, the character 'a' is constructed of two curves in a single 'curve object' and this mode makes that construction simpler). Node tool can now auto-snap nodes if you drag a node from one curve over the top of a node from another (selected) curve and pause, it will offer to snap to the same geometry as the node you're hovering over (ie,  modify the on and off-curve nodes to match). This is really useful for trying to reconstruct areas of one curve from another curve. Node tool now allows for lasso selection of nodes by holding the Alt/Option key and dragging a selection lasso. Pencil tool now offers a 'sculpt' mode that allows for extending or manipulating curves in a more natural way. More to come in this area soon. Many tools now allow for 'Alignment widgets' which you can toggle the visibility of in the context toolbar. When enabled you can visually adjust the alignment or even, for example, 'align to centre, snapped to the left edge of this object' by simply click/dragging. Fill tool correctly allows editing of skewed fill handles and newly-created skewed fills draw much nicer now. Ruler origin can be edited by simply dragging the area where the rulers intersect each other - it can even be snapped onto objects in the document. Guides can be edited in most tools by simply dragging a guide in the ruler area. Grid setup is now more interactive: origin can be dragged, axis scale adjusted and angle adjusted on-document, complete with snapping to objects and angles in the document to help you reconstruct useful grids from finished artworks or sketches. By enabling 'Edit in Plane' on the new Isometric Panel, tools can edit objects and appear to make those edits along the currently active plane - extremely useful for artists who enjoy working with any axonometric projections. You can now drag the rotation centre point (when enabled on the context toolbar) while holding Ctrl and it will translate the object - this is actually very useful for positioning and snapping objects relative to others. Shapes tools now have presets so you can create your own favourite shape setups and more easily use them again. There are just far too many subtle tool changes to mention here, but hopefully you'll find the tools much improved  General
Arrowheads are now available in the Stroke Panel. New Appearance Panel allows for multiple strokes and fills on a single shape. HDR / EDR monitor support New brushes, styles and assets are now shipped with the product. Visible bleed (accessed from the View menu) so you can more easily design into the bleed area - a common feature request. “Alternate futures” for document history have been added. Traditionally, if you roll back the undo history then do something else all your changes after that point are lost. Designer will now display a small branch icon in the history tab when you do this. Pressing that button will cycle between all the different “futures” after that history entry - meaning you will never lose work you have done. New 'Isometric Panel' makes it easy to setup and work with various axonometric projections within the application. HEIF images can now be loaded directly into Designer. If they contain a depth map, this will also be loaded as a second layer. Because depth maps are typically lower resolution than the main image, optional “smart” upsampling will be performed. Designer now supports custom document presets - a popular feature request. A new blend mode - Linear Burn - has been added. Layers Panel now allows you to tag individual layers with a colour and display thumbnails with transparent backgrounds and at different sizes. New “Move inside / outside” commands have been added - useful for quickly clipping/unclipping. New "Merge curves/Separate curves" commands. Grids now have an editable number of angle subdivisions. The Hard Mix blend mode has been improved. Numerous text improvements have been made - including new features such as bullets and numbering. Significant PDF import / export improvements and fixes. Improved Freehand import slightly - failing to read all of a file shouldn't force it to produce a 'failed to load' response, instead we just load the bits that we *could* read New splash screen and Persona icons Brushes
Designer 1.7 introduces a new “sub-brush” mechanism, developed in conjunction with Paolo Limoncelli (DAUB® Brushes). This exciting feature allows any raster brush to have a list of other brushes attached which will draw at the same time. Each sub-brush has a fully separate and customisable set of dynamics. You can control when the sub-brushes are drawn and how they blend with the main brush. Symmetry (up to 32-way) is now supported - including on-canvas controls and optional mirroring. Wet edges and accumulation are now available on colour brushes and brushes with HSL variance. Brushes with multiple nozzle textures have always chosen the nozzle at random. In 1.7, the nozzle choice has a dynamic controller and ramp for greater control. All pixel brush tools now support left and right arrow keys for rotation - a common feature request.
    Adjustments
The HSL adjustment layer has been rewritten. It now supports custom hue ranges, a new algorithm, new UI and picker controls. The Levels adjustment layer now supports output levels - a common feature request. The White Balance adjustment layer has been rewritten. The Selective Colour adjustment layer has been rewritten. PSD import / export of adjustments has been improved. The Vibrance adjustment layer has been rewritten. The Recolour adjustment layer has gained a lightness slider. Misc

Probably should go under feature request, but a way to offset the grid/guides would be useful. Easiest way would probably be to just move the starting point. Or less convenient, being able to do it through the manager widows. Cheers

No one is talking about the color highlights added to the layers menu!
This will help to visually organize your grouping and layers. I have found that sometime as I'm building and exploring ideas the layers can get crazy. So this seem like it should help to mark layers you need to find quickly.
Hoping eventually for a filter/search ability in layers. Would be very helpful.
Also how many of you are using this as your daily driver? Give me a smiley face emoticon for a head count please :D.

Sure Mike, but why "move to a new application"?  It was very different world when Adobe made me an offer I couldn't refuse for the first (very incomplete) version of Indesign.  Then the market penetration of such packages was minuscule (QuarkXPress was far too expensive to consider for most people, I was using MS Publisher).  Now everyone who needs this sort of software already has it.  Of course, there is certainly potential for another professional package, particularly with smaller users who might feel that Adobe is monopoly-screwing them with the CC licencing but possibly not at the expense of abandoning their existing library of files.  We shall see how it goes in the marketplace.  I certainly really want to jump ship.

I think you are missing the point I made: as you say, PDF is meant as a (final) export file format. As such, all the original structure and organization of the original file is lost, and while having the option to import PDF is great (in particular for singular pages and designs), the Publisher developers seem to treat PDF as a sort of intermediate format that they assume can be made to work as a viable alternative such as IDML: a true intermediate format that retains the structure for the most part.
And IDML is the only existing candidate file format which is already used as an intermediate DTP file format by various layout software, if perhaps mostly for import. What I am saying here is that IDML is really the only viable option, even if it is an Adobe format, because it is an open standard and relatively easy to support.
PDF can never work as an intermediate format for longer complex layout documents. Not if the user intends to heavily modify them. That is why I view Affinity Publisher and PhotoLine (which has supported the import of entire PDF documents for editing in a similar way) as capable PDF editors, but not as editors which can work with PDF-based structured documents. That is just not possible. And that is aside from all the other issues which I listed in the earlier post. Try editing a table after importing it via PDF.
Here is a question for you: would you prefer a PSD or a PDF of the same layered file to work with? Most users will probably opt for the PSD, because it retains the structure of the original. More, it IS the original. PSD import and export is supported by most image editors, even if many native PS features are not.
Or what about a Word file or a PDF version of that same Word file? A preposterous question, of course: anyone who wants to edit a document knows that the PDF is nigh on useless for this, and will choose the Word file. All word processing software worth its salt support Word import and export.
Likewise, IDML is a worthy candidate as a intermediate file format, and is indeed already supported as a general import format by most DTP layout software. Which is why I think IDML should not only be importable in Publisher, but also exportable.
@MikeW Scribus supports IDML import only at this time. The community is thinking about integrating IDML export as well. Viva Designer Pro supports my argument here: that company is smart enough to understand the simple concept that InDesign is the industry standard, and that IDML is a good intermediate format. Supporting it is the way to go. PDF is just not a viable alternative for all the reasons I explained.

Still occasionally need illustrator for warping text, distorting vector groups, selecting and grouping by fill/stroke colour, vector 3d and creating vector repeating patterns - the Parallax Method logo was all originally done in Illustrator and later refined in Affinity but was a pain in the arse to get all set up in affinity as global colours, whereas it's a two second job in Illustrator (select same fill/stroke colour), it took about two hours to manually select and assign global colours in my Affinity palate - I too have taken vector warping and distorting for granted from using using Freehand and Illustrator, and can't wait for an Affinity equivalent, really frustrating not to be able to grab the corner of a group of vectors and alt drag to slightly distort into perspective  - but they're doing an excellent job on bringing us these features - so glad we have bleed guides now - and really glad we got lockable guides back - I used to do cartoon strip stuff with the blob brush and really miss it - but now actually prefer the CSP and Image Vectorizer method - but would love to see Serif do something similar to the Blob brush - really wish they could push the warping/distorting to the front of the queue as these are features I really expected in the first release ------ hopefully soon?

    Status: Beta
    Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer

    Hello,
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the beta of Affinity Designer 1.7 for macOS.
Designer 1.7 is a significant change to the currently shipping 1.6 version. Files edited in this version will not be backwards-compatible with the shipping 1.6 version. As such, we would not recommend using this 1.7 version for critical or production work at this stage. It is inevitable that there were will be a number of issues with 1.7 but we hope these will be minor and aim to resolve any issues very quickly, so please use it and explore the new features, but also do keep in mind that you may find snags and we would appreciate your help with finding and reporting these to us.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
It’s also worth noting that we aren’t done yet - we are still working through reported bugs from previous releases and hope to fix as many as possible before the final release of 1.7.
With all that said, we hope that you will enjoy the new capabilities introduced in this initial release and we look forward to any and all feedback you give to us.
    Many thanks,
    Matt

Please refer to previous beta updates for a full list of all changes to date. This latest update builds on the 1.7.0.6 changes and also includes the following changes:
Fix for items which contain other items always getting rasterised on export
Improved draw performance for vector containers (Any vector object which you put something else inside. i.e. make a circle and then clip some other object inside it)
Wireframe mode should work correctly for multiple linestyles
Added clickable context toolbar for when an image is selected, allowing users to scale or set bitmaps to arbitrary sizes
Fix for a number of Appearance panel issues
    12bit RGB TIFF support
Double-clicking an item in the Assets panel will now queue it up in the Place tool, ready for you to drag out at the size you like
Paste image now works from browsers again
Fix for selection frame not representing currently selected objects and their transform properly!
Point Transform tool - now has on-document feedback about relative scale and rotation during drag and specific Transform studio information
Grid Widget (turned on via grid and axis manager) only allows 'full editing' (editing of scale and angle) while in Move Tool and only when a cube grid is not active

Node alignment is included in v1.7 - you can try the beta right now to see how it works.
The beta installs in parallel with 1.6 so no danger in trying out all the new features.

There's no need to carelessly classify another as an "apologist" to diminish their credibility and recognition of the reality. Nobody can expect to effectively import ID design data if you don't have the Affinity features ready yet to support features coming from ID.
If you're old enough, look back to the advent of ID. It had a very crude PM and QXD importer. ID users most often had to recreate their legacy documents. ID has never had a QXD importer beyond version QuarkXPress 4 and the PM imports (from Adobe's own software) have always been garbage. Adobe had huge resources to develop importers with ID1 (and all subsequent releases) but still did not live up to our current expectations of Affinity.
As you know, each page layout developer intentionally limits the interchange of their documents. We recognize this as "vendor lock in". Instead of blaming developers for not being able to read/import, we can blame ourselves for choosing a proprietary format.

One feature I miss is the ability to draw an vector shape (simple or complex) and use it as a brush. A bicycle chain for example.

xman reacted to Craig Deeley in Affinity Designer Brush UI enhancement
After downloading the newest beta 1.7.0.3 I noticed that the Brush related UI hasn’t changed in several years and would like to suggest some productivity improvements.
    This is my situation.
I am looking for a way to identify and switch to a brush quickly and easily from both the Brush menu(s) AND by means of clicking a brush stroke in an image.
I have at this point, hundreds (and hundreds) of custom brushes. The previews of these brushes are in some cases very similar. I need a faster way to identify a Brush that may be stored in any of a large number of collections without having to hunt for the brush thru trial and error.
My productivity problem: The sheer number of brushes I have makes searching for a specific brush from among many collections an extremely time-consuming task.

    Here is my first suggestion:
Missing from the Brush palette is an easy way to spot a brush by name. Where the Brush palette shows a visual preview of the look of the brush and a size indication on the left, having the name of the brush appear in the palette would be far more helpful than the default size listed for quickly identifying a specific brush. See example:
    http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr04.jpg
Being able to identify a brush in the Brush palette - by name - would make hunting for brushes in the Brush palette a little less time consuming
    However...
My real desire would be the ability to do a fast switch to a Brush from a selection of the stroke that is already in a piece of art.
I may be missing something that may have been changed in the newest beta - but what I still find is this: If I click on a stroke applied to the "canvas" I do see an indicator of the brushes identity in the menus top left.
See upper portion of this image:
    http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr01.jpg
A small preview of the brush. Clicking on this brings up a nice editing shortcut - but…
This mini palette does not tell me what the brushes name is - nor does it give me an option to switch to the indicated brush
    See image:
    http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr02.jpg
If I click then click the Properties button in this mini menu I do get a more involved Brush Editing menu - But - this menu also does not have the brushes name. See image:
    http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr03.jpg
This is odd because the Brush Edit menu from the Brushes menu does have the name.  This editing menu seems to be a different version of the full Brush editing menu. See image:
    http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr05.jpg
Nor is there any option to switch to the selected brush from this Edit menu.

    Second suggestion:
What I would like to see would be a way (or tool) to select a Brush stroke already applied to the “canvas” and have the brush both identified (named in all Brush menus) and the brush tools attributes switch to those of the selected brush stroke. Select stroke. Brush (tool) changes to (inheruts) the selected stokes attributes. Be able to immediately draw with those attributes.
This fast switch would be a MAJOR productivity enhancement and time saver.
If this feature doesn't exist - I would dearly love to have it added. Either in the form of a new selection tool addition or as something similar to the functionality of the Freehand tool or arrow tool in the application Expression3/Microsoft Expression Design. In those versions of the application, click (tap) a brush stroke on the “canvas” with the Freehand Pen or arrow selection tool and the tools attributes immediately switch to the clicked objects attributes.

An example of why this would be useful.
If I have several brushes in use in a drawing and want to use one of the strokes in my drawing... Just clicking on the stroke would switch me to the Brush. The drawn stroke would double as a palette and the file could even double as a Brush category - saving tons of time that is presently lost hunting up a brush in the Brushes/brush collections menus.

    Thanks

    Craig

I think there is some confusion as to what the Affinity Designer vector brushes are.
They are vector brushes if the shape is simple and you can create a vector brush called a solid brush, these are very basic and is effectively a stroke and that stroke can be expanded to create a curve shape, anything else is a rasterised image on a vector curve, so you can adjust the curve but not the brush shape itself.
You cannot create a true vector brush with a pattern or texture, in order to create a brush you have to export whatever shape you drew to a raster format such as a PNG file, you cannot create a brush from an SVG vector file.

The (Show) Alignment Angles controls are just for aligning objects or nodes. They aren't intended to mirror objects along an axis. I thought you were talking about the Symmetry option (context toolbar) for the Brush Tools (in Affinity Designer Pixel Persona and Affinity Photo Photo Persona).

What exactly do you mean by "symmetry widget"? From your screen recording, it looks like you have enabled the Move Tool's "Show Alignment Handles" option, which allows you to drag the selected object by one of those handles to move it around, including to snap its center or edges to some other object, like the dashed line you are calling the symmetry axis.
