Actually @R C-R, ignore what i said above about intended behavior.
I didn't even think to compare Designer 1 vs. Designer 2... it's definitely bug introduced in Designer 2...
I was wondering why this hasn't bothered me before, since i've been using this app for the better part of a decade, haha.

    You guys are much appreciated!

Yeah - it's cool. To be honest this was something we had on the list to investigate for 2.1 but we ran out of time (and wasn't considered as critical as some other fixes). Think the issue was with us adding the ability to have tearable document tabs in V2 which can all be separately minimised, but agree the desired behaviour would be if the main UI is hidden then hitting the icon should bring that back up. Sure we'll have it sorted in 2.2 - and if you are on the beta an update including that might be available quite soon

This has popped up on the forums before, but it's looking like 2.1 is close to release and the bug of clicking the dock icon and the application not restoring onto the screen is still persisting.
I usually wouldn't open a duplicate thread, but this is personally one of the most workflow-interrupting bugs i've experienced in a long time, even if anyone else on earth would consider it extremely minor, haha!  I'm ADHD (fully diagnosed, prescribed drugs at age 40, not just saying that because i forget stuff like people on TV) and if you know anything about it, you'll know that unexpected results of input actions can cause a 10 car derailment in workflow for people like me.

I'll be deep into a multi app process, and I click the Affinity Icon and the app doesn't re-appear on screen, it can sometimes throw me into a loop of endlesss random distractions, seemingly forgetting what i was intending to do in the first place, until i realize i was trying to open the app after multiple minutes of of aimlessly checking emails, playing on facebook, googling, playing Wordle and other distractions. Being a designer is hard enough without forgetting you are one for minutes on end, haha!!

Not trying to invite anyone to a pitty party, just want to throw out an alternative perspective on how a bug can affect some users, haha!

Thanks a bunch guys, keeping doing what you do!

TonyO got a reaction from predick in Auto Expand Strokes Option
It would be great to have an option down on the context sensitive bar to automatically expand a stroke after drawing a stroke with the pencil tool. In the Adobe Stock/Shutterstock world, you can't have strokes on your vectors, all strokes must be expanded before you can upload an image, so my workflow includes me pressing Expand Stroke after every line i draw. On the desktop i just set expand to a single keypress so it's quick and easy, but on ipad it involves 2 extra pencil taps to the menu then the option. It's mildly inconvenient.
It would be great to either add an expand button to the context bar of node, pen and pencil tools OR just have an option to turn on auto-expand which would just expand after the line is drawn. This could replace the need for a blob brush if you combined an auto-expand option with a sclupt mode. One less tool, same functionality.

Right now if you hit CMD+A you select all objects on all art boards.
    Cmd+Any Modifier+A doesn't seem to do anything.
It would be convenient if you guys could add CMD+SHIFT+A to select all objects within the artboard you're currently working in, ignoring everything outside of it.
    Thoughts?

I can't be the first one to think of or suggest this (i only did one quick forum search), but it would be more than awesome to be able to have a secondary studio panel for lesser used panels that operates like the ipad version, where click the icon to show the panel, and it auto collapses once you click off of using it. Even using the ipad side bar offset from the main studio panels.
    Something like the screenshot.

I don't know why they do it, but there's a seemingly core unit of forum users that seek to diminish and/or discredit the need/desire/usefulness of any suggestions of possible improvements to the Affinity software, no matter how objectively obvious a feature request or suggestion's benefits are. They'll pick on anything they can to do this. It's so obvious a pattern of behaviour, so dogged and determined that their temerity is somewhat shocking.
Especially given that @TonyO is quite obviously a high value professional user with a need for the feature fluency, speed and stability of Designer (which he's seemingly happy with). In none of these areas is it fair to consider Publisher to be anywhere near close to Designer. Especially when it comes to stability with that much going on - which is probably in his top ten criteria.
And there's significant reductions in performance and functionality when attempting to pretend that Publisher is Designer.
This suggestion is merely the addition of something that's in the iPad app, and become somewhat of a staple within all sorts of creative apps from all sorts of industries.
And a very good idea, I think, especially considering what we can all probably agree on with regards the stability of Publisher...

Yeah, but that puts all of the cognitive load on the user to know this already, rather than actually helping them in situ.

This may be a good solution for a single one-off design or the such, but when you illustrate multiple items at once and need the expandability of an infinite pasteboard outside your canvas for extra elements, brainstorming or reference images - as well as the use of multiple artboards, the benefits of a publication based design app becomes fleeting.
Everybody has different needs, Publisher can't handle a workflow that looks like this.

No, he totally understands what you are asking for, and that is the correct answer.

Publisher does NOT support all features of the independent apps in each of the personas, the file setup is not the same, and it does not fit the needs of all users.

Publisher doesn't support infinite canvas or artboards, slicing exports, and many other features of the standalone apps. Publisher is a multipage publication app, equivalent to InDesign, it is not designed for UI, illustration, photo editing or general multi-format design. Each individual app has features that the others don't. Publisher files are setup in page format for a reason, if you don't need pages or mail merge or other multi page/publication based needs then you may be better off using the others apps.

Mainly text-related functions, such as Linked Text Frames, Hyphenation, Find and Replace, Font Manager, Pinning, Columns in Text Frames, ....
But also, the Photo Persona offers more capabilities than Designer's Pixel Persona.

Unless I'm missing something, I can't actually select 'Create artboard' when creating a new document in Publisher via the Designer persona.
I think it's disabled (using an ever so slightly darker grey) rather than a bug.
If I can't create an artboard in this manner, it probably shouldn't even be presented as an option on the new document screen.

Off topic a bit, but what are all those plugins in AI? Do they make bezier drawing any less of a slog - AI is the worst when it comes to node editing tools, haha.
