Francky got a reaction from Wosven in Flamingos illustration / wallpaper
Hello Affinity fans
Today I drawn flamingos, interesting long-legged birds.
I have made not use of textures, patterns, pixel layers or brushes, I just wanted a very simple illustration, just shapes, pen and gradients.
Give a look at the illustration, drawn in Affinity Designer and tell me what do you think, leave your feed backs, write positive and negative

Francky reacted to JenM in OMG Comic Text Tutorial for Affinity Designer
Hi -
I've been a member of this forum for quite a wile and I always find worthwhile content, and open sharing of ideas, and everyone helping each find solutions to issues. I started my YouTube channel "Jenco Designs" about a year ago and have posted 10 beginner tutorials for Affinity Designer. I love working with AD and have a blast making these videos!
If there is something you'd like a video about, leave a comment and I'll do my best to address it. I appreciate your comments and suggestions. My goal is to help everyone have as much fun as I have working with the Affinity programs. :-) Jen
Here's my latest video.

Francky reacted to AKiATECH in How to Easily Crop a Layer in Affinity Photo
Hey all, I've been lurking on these forums for a while since I purchased Photo and Designer. I've also been using Serif software since the early 2000's starting with PhotoPlus 6.0 I think. Loving the software and looking forward to all the new stuff in the works. I came across a problem with cropping an image on a single layer.
Every time I would crop, it would crop the entire canvas. I played with the software a bit and was able to come up with a quick way to crop an image on a single layer without affecting the others. I don't know if this information exists somewhere else on this forum but I could not find it anywhere. Please see the video below if you're interested:
If anyone has any other ideas for tutorials I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks,
Collin

Francky reacted to Kiarian in Gran Turismo Sport - Super Mario Kart
Gran Turismo Sport now allow users to import SVG files for the in-game livery editor. The only thing is, the SVG file has to be below 15Kb in memory, which is pretty tiny.
It's a nice challenge though, to chop away as much unneeded information as possible, but to still get a good quality image. I created this vector file using Affinity Designer, which I then exported as the SVG file.
I then used the livery editor to give my bog standard go-kart a new design.
The Gran Turismo screenshots are in game. I'm just showing them to illustrate how the decal design looks on the go-kart!

Hello ToreB
Great pieces of art, I like your style!

Hi Tore B,
Loved the freely, expressive sketchy style. Glad to know you're enjoying Affinity apps.
Great work. Thanks for sharing and Welcome to the Affinity Forums

Francky reacted to ToreB in Great software!
Since I bought Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer before xmas, I have not been using any of my (many) other paint programs much. There is such a nice natural flowing feel to the Affinity brush engine, especially used together with DAUB's brushtips. Some examples here.
Thanks for great software at a price, poor artists can afford!

Francky reacted to GarryP in Flamingos illustration / wallpaper
No worries @Alfred I've just done a very quick and crude mock-up for myself (see attached) and I'm not convinced that it would add much either now but maybe that's just my lack of illustration skills. @Francky will be able to do something much better than me but if they don't look right it could spoil the whole thing so it could be best to keep it as is.

I agree with @Kasper-V that it looks like a piece of marquetry and I can’t find anything negative to say about it. I don’t agree with @GarryP (sorry, Garry!) about adding movement by tapering the clouds; for me, those lovely flamingos give the image all the movement it needs.

I agree with Kasper-V. The colours, composition and level of detail are great. It's also very nice that you have taken the time to make all of the birds different, rather than just making copies.
The only thing I would add is that it might be better if the clouds tapered to a point at the bottom of one side to make it look like they are being pushed along by the wind, rather than just being static. I think that would add a little more "movement" to the image.
As an extra added detail, you could try and find out whether flamingos would - or would not - fly into the wind as that could tell you which side of the clouds to taper (tapering the side into the wind).
All-in-all though, nice work.
