New work - Our Lady of Brighthelmstone.
This was my recent submission for a call to artists put out by a new gallery opening in the city of Brighton & Hove - sadly rejected.
The theme was metamorphosis, so I painted the city morphed into a fabulous drag queen, in the style of an Uber-kitsch religious painting (taking “Our Lady of Guadeloupe” as my main inspiration - Brighthelmstone is the old name for the city of Brighton).
There are a total of 33 visual “easter eggs” contained within the picture, some architectural, some cultural. If any of you are familiar with the place, have fun spotting them!

Yeah another Alfa! Just showing where I started blocking in and doing a few bits all over the place and then a week later. Can't decide on the lady so not quite finished either, perhaps a different pose, facing the car? Not sure. Anyway will update when I've decided and I'm done.

Found a really tiny reference photo and thought I'd see if it still looked like a car once I'd finished with it. I'm probably going to add a background as it's boring but not decided what yet. I will update when/if I do. No blurs in this one just gradients.

This my first artwork totally using Affinity Designer and Photo. I've converted from Adobe as I'm now retired and just producing pictures for my own pleasure (mainly motor racing).

This is the late Carlos Pace's Martini Brabham BT45 at the German GP in 1976. Based on a photo by the brilliant Rainer Schlegelmilch.

Next, a steam locomotive passes on a bridge around 1920. This was hard work the original photo was small, dark and very unsharp so had to search internet for another pictures of the right type of locomotive and the bridge, there are almost no bridges of this kind anymore. (the lines above behind is for telephone if any wondered what it is)

About 40 years ago I had a Matchbox catalog in my hand, in which I saw an illustration similar to this one. It was probably part of an advertisement for a new series of miniature cars. I remembered it because I really liked the concept. Unfortunately, I don't know where exactly I saw this picture. I searched the brochures available on the web but couldn't find it. So I decided to recreate it from memory. The old ads were fantastic!

Five hundred cookies and 128 rum buns out of the oven (not all at once) and here is my feeble attempt at a Christmas card.  Since I couldn't draw my way out of a paper bag, I decided to use the Paper Cut Woodlands Assets with Designer 2 and the wonderful Warp Group, for this year's magnum opus.  Hooray for the eye dropper!
Thank you to all of the wonderful people at Serif who have worked so hard to give us all the new things in the three V2's.  And best wishes to everyone for a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

my last post. I’m posting on instagram (yuk) and twitter (2 followers so Elon will be getting worried!)  if you can find me! Also in the private Facebook Affinity Designer group (the biggest one).
Two quick ones. Did the astronaut then he had to have some transport. The rocket is a bit closer to futurist I guess. Rocket one needs a tweak or 10 but didn’t take too long.

    Auto-update: Available

    Hello,
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the first build of Affinity Photo 1.8.4 for macOS.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is an incremental update to the 1.8.3 version recently released to all customers (though it installs parallel to the release, as described above). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.
    Affinity Photo Team

    Changes Since 1.8.3

    - Integrated x3f-tools project, significantly improving support for X3F RAW.
    - Added ability to show folders as icons in the layers panel.
    - Added option to always show folders as “small” in the layers panel.
    - Improved dragging behaviour in the layers panel.
    - PDF import performance improvements.
    - Document save performance improvements.
    - Detect Edges improved on 32bit documents.
    - Lens profile popup might report incorrect state.
    - RW2 files can cause a crash.
    - Text performance improvements.
    - Selection brush width is not remember after being changed using modifier keys.
    - Placing RAW files now produces Pixel layers, as opposed to Image layers.
    - Fixed reading of XP metadata under certain conditions.
    - Fix for Nikon D90 RAW loading issues.
    - Fixed High Pass filter when using LAB colour.
    - Assorted small bug fixes.
    - Help improvements.
    - Localisation improvements.

Hi all, I believe this was identified and fixed when the beta was first available, I was getting it with my Sony ARW files. I believe it was a mixup with the input colour profile—check out the next beta when it's available and hopefully the issue will be sorted. I'll double check with the developer that the fix was implemented for multiple camera formats and not exclusively for Sony raw files.

    Hello,
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the first beta of Affinity Photo 1.8 for macOS.
Photo 1.8 is a significant change to the currently shipping 1.7 version, so, as ever, I would strongly urge users to avoid the 1.8 beta for critical work. This is a pre-release build of 1.8 - we will release more builds before 1.8 ships. Things will be broken in this build - please use it to explore the new features and not for real work.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
It’s also worth noting that we aren’t done yet - we are still working through reported bugs from previous releases and hope to fix as many as possible before the final release of 1.8. We also plan to add more features prior to the 1.8 release.
With all that said, we hope that you will enjoy the new capabilities introduced in this release and we look forward to any and all feedback you give to us.
    Many thanks (as always),
    Affinity Photo Team
