    @Alexmwalker
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forum
Sorry for the treatment you have received in posts I have now hidden (including the polite final one by Jowady which made no sense with the others problematic ones hidden).
I hope it has not discouraged you from participating here where the vast majority of users are extremely helpful.

Well, from where I'm sitting, Jowday seems to have a good handle on what he's talking about. I happily bought the tool and was quite enthusiastic about the prospects. It's not a huge risk at that price. When I came to this thread looking for answers I assumed my issues with exporting SVG were my own lack of familiarity with the tool. Turns out it wasn't that.
I can see that people who simply like to draw with vector tools might get excellent results from AD. Those who really depend on getting high quality, thoughtfully constructed SVG files to use in web browsers and apps might generate more problems than they need.

    Cheers,

Neither Publisher nor Photo will print my work as a pdf using ‘Microsoft to PDF’ driver. The blue line stops at about 60% and stays there forever. The only way out is to cancel the print. I’ve never had this problem before. I’ve tried rebooting the computer too. I’ve spent hours trying to print some important files for a deadline and nothing works.
Does anyone have any ideas please?
    Many thanks!

Why are you printing to PDF using that driver?
Is there some reason why you are not using the Export to PDF functionality which is already in those applications?

Absolutely love the fact that the IDMarkz app can open InDesign documents and import them directly into Affinity Publisher. That's a huge help.
Seems as though, with a little more reverse engineering, Affinity Publisher might be able to import and export InDesign files natively.

Coming today, 27 May 2020: Moving from InDesign to Affinity Publisher with Mike Rankin

Affinity Publisher now has the ability to import content from Adobe InDesign via IDML, and a key part of moving your workflow between the apps is working with legacy files. But what kind of results can you expect and which document features are supported? How can you avoid trouble and get the cleanest possible conversion? And what if you don't have access to InDesign?
In this Lockdown 2020 session, Mike Rankin – Editor-in-Chief of CreativePro, InDesignSecrets and InDesign Magazine – explores these questions and more to help you make a smooth transition from InDesign to Publisher.
Mike will be available on YouTube’s Live Chat for this session’s premiere on Wednesday, 27 May 2020 at 4pm BST to answer any questions, or view the video on demand later.
He’s also provided a PDF with details of what to expect when InDesign files are converted to Publisher, which you can access for free at https://affin.co/LD2020MikeRankin

"is there a way to get the brick wall mortar joints to a seperate whiter/grey colour?"
Not easy to explain but yes, its possible.
But first you need to have an idea of the lightness level of the gray joints.
    L ~ 70% seems a good value.

Next add a gradient map from black to white. And add some colors
    Position 0% #000000 (Black)
Position 34% #853D27 (some brick colour i found after a google search. The position of 34% found by trial & error)
Position 70% #AEAFAB (70% comes from previous analysis)
    Position 100% #FFFFFF (White)

    And after some masking...

That's a reasonable criticism. However, to be fair I wasn't really expecting that, and I had also done extensive tests on it on my old Gen 1 iPad Pro that showed me how capable Affinity potentially was. That is why I bought the new iPad for it. I just misjudged how much I would miss all the other tools. Also, Affinity is much more than a $25 app, and that is one of its problems. Despite the things that I personally found annoying, its capabilities really do rival Photoshop for a large section of photo editing, and at the moment it is way more capable than the current version of Photoshop on the iPad. (And at the slow rate Adobe is adding features to Photoshop for iPad it's going to be a couple of years before they catch up.)
I understand why the generally low price level of apps on iOS forces Serif to charge such a low price. However, that is probably holding them back. It's definitely a professional-class application with professional potential, and for what it can do and can become it should really cost a LOT more. Then Serif would have more resources for better support and investing more in development. Unfortunately, they would get crucified with 1-star ratings in the App Store if they tried to charge that. Also, now that they've started at such a low price it's really difficult to increase it -- lowering prices is always easy, raising them is very hard.
And that is really the conundrum of professional class apps on the iPad: The App Store has created such a low price level that it's very difficult to justify development of apps with the kind of depth and breadth that Affinity Photo definitely has. That is most likely why we're not going to see a version of Capture One on the iPad any time soon. Phase One charges professional prices for professional software and they won't be expanding to the iPad as a platform before there is a reasonable chance of getting a better return there. My guess is that is also the reason Adobe is not pushing ahead with Photoshop for the iPad development all that quickly: Even though they are covered by including it in the general subscription plan, the iPad is still not a very attractive business proposition as a platform for professional-grade apps that have a smaller niche market and must charge higher prices to be economically viable.

    Hi,
First I would place the ballon image inside on a locked and dimmed down layer, so you have a sort of tracing template you can follow. - Then there are several ways of drawing those curved segments.
You can follow and redraw the segments shape flow with the pen tool, just make sure you close drawn paths, so you can color fill etc. them later. Or you use some from the already available shapes like the half circle or sickle shape, draw one and convert it's shape to curves (right clcik menu on a shape) so you can modify (drag/move) and add nodes to that curve to rebuild one of those balloon segments.
Here as an example I used a sickle shape for rebuilding a ballon segment ...

Thanks for the tip! I went back and checked and like you said it seems like the original pentagon was a little skewed when I made it. I had assumed the math would reset when you change polygon types. Seems like everything is lined up well now.

My main complicated drawings are taking ages so I thought I would work on a few easier ones at the same time. This is the first to be finished.
For me Gulf Racing is the most iconic colour scheme in motor racing and I’ve been meaning to do a 917 but never got around to it until now. Unsurprisingly there aren’t a whole lot of overhead shots of it so this was based on photos of the 1:8 scale die cast model by Amalgam Collection. Very high end, about £10k but bespoke can apparently cost up to £120k. Not something to let the kids play with.
On the Porsche 917K’s public debut at the 1970 Daytona 24 Hours, John Wyer's Gulf-sponsored team finished 1-2 in the race. The winning number 2 car driven by Pedro Rodríguez, Leo Kinnunen and Brian Redman broke the distance record by 190 miles.
