Gnobelix reacted to shojtsy in LAB macros
Hi,
Here is a library of macros of various LAB operations. It can do
- Selective desaturation of LAB channels
- Separate LAB channels to greyscale layers without switching to LAB mode
- Join back LAB greyscale layers to a composite image without switching to LAB mode
- LAB color contrast boost
Enjoy!
As for the file size being 4MB for a few macros, I have no idea, it is probably a bug.

Thanks. - Give it a try, settings are always also dependent on the sort of input color image, so you might have to change certain default settings to your needs.

Gnobelix reacted to IanSG in How many version licenses do I need?
It's a different licence for each OS, so yes, you have to buy another license. Each OS requires its own development and support, so that's not unreasonable, especialy when you consider how cheap the software is.

Gnobelix reacted to MEB in Editing masked area with external plug-in
@Gnobelix,
There's no need to copy the selection to the clipboard. just create the selection and press ⌘ (cmd) + J to create a layer with the selected part (assuming the original layer is a pixel layer not an image layer type).

Gnobelix got a reaction from PaulAffinity in [1.6.3.98] extremely slow jpg export
Hello krbo,
that's not normal and annoying, if it takes so long until a simple JPG file is saved.
I've opened a 137 MB TIF file, and following steps carried out.
Duplicate the Layer
Live Filter:
Shadows / Highlights Filter
Clarity Filter
Unsharp Mask Filter
Vignette Filter
for the calculating an export size and save, needed my PC scarce 30 sec.
So similar values as HVDB has determined.
Try resetting all settings maybe it helps.

Gnobelix reacted to dmstraker in Affinity Photo Customer Beta - 1.6.3.98
Here's a test using a recent raw shot. f32, 30sec, ISO50 using Sony A7R2 and FE24-240. Test controls for all images is shadows right up, highlights right down. Notable differences!
Original:
Affinity 1.6.1.93 - Note muddying of shadows.
Affinity 1.6.3.98 - massive improvement!
Photoshop CS6 - less improvement of shadows, greater pulling back of highlights
Lightroom 6 - unsurprisingly similar to Photoshop CS6
DxO OpticsPro 11 - much more extreme shadows treatment (is similar to Affinity at about 50%)
ON1 Photo Raw 2018 - very little change in highlight, less improvement in shadows, good colour control
Luminar 2018, similar to ON1 Photo Raw 2018
If I was to choose one, it would be Affinity. DxO is too extreme in shadows. ON1 and Luminar are less effective, especially in highlights. I would like more highlight control, though - note how the white car headlight streams are separated by Photoshop/Lightroom.

Gnobelix reacted to James Ritson in Why Affinity Photo sucks and rocks!
Hi Jens, I can address a couple of these points quickly:
I appreciate it's not a solution, but there are a plethora of video tutorials that will show you the interface in detail. You can check them out on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjZ7Y0kROWitLXsh6z4Z3qBYCS6xoIXHN and in particular there's a Discover video here which runs through the interface: https://youtu.be/_wwgo9Z9yYQ
If you open a JPEG or PNG straight into Photo, you'll be able to "write back" to them instantly based on edits you've made. If you've made purely destructive edits, using Save or CTRL+S will write back to the file instantly. If you've added non-destructive adjustments, filters, etc, then you'll get a prompt to either flatten and overwrite the initial file, or to save as an .afphoto document to retain the non-destructive edits.
You can also do this with PSD documents, but you need to enable write-back through Preferences.
I appreciate that having common file formats on a typical Save dialog would be useful; for now, though, you could quickly use the Export shortcut (Shift + Ctrl + Alt + S) and it will remember the last image format and preset you were using.
Photo has live filter layers, they're accessed from the Layer menu. They behave like adjustment layers, so you can indeed tweak filter settings and edit the filter's mask whenever you want. Bear in mind that although you can add separate mask layers to adjustments and filters, there's no need to. Just click on the layer's thumbnail - that's the mask. So you can invert it, paint on it using white/black to show/hide parts of it, Alt+click to isolate it, etc.
Hope that helps, that's all I've got time for this evening! (Got to go and play with the dogs )

In this short tutorial I'll show you how to draw simple polygon spirals in Affinity Designer 1.6.0.
We will use the rotation origin, transformation panel and the duplicate function.

Enjoy the video and have fun to draw your own polygon spirals. It's simple but interesting!

Gnobelix got a reaction from Rick G in Exporting PNG loses transparency
Fact is that the normal PNG export does not work as it should.
I think the Affinity Team, is in the well earned Christmas holiday
and will surprise us with its creative diversity in the new year.

Yes! Clear that is what I am reporting. A bug in the beta. DOn't mind my reexplaining things.. I want to make sure the developers know exactly what is going on with it
Thanks for the response

Gnobelix got a reaction from Rick G in Exporting PNG loses transparency
I have to correct my statement, see above
During the export, I noticed that an ICC profile is activated,
deactivate the ICC profile, then works the PNG export with 24 bit and transparent background
