curio reacted to Geoff Stokes in Very slow to load new Presets (LUT's)
If you create a new Presert (LUT's) from an external *.cube file the next time you start Photo and select LUT from the Adjustment menu the program is very slow to load the new LUT.
At times it can also result in the program failing and requiring a reboot.
This slow reaction is worse the more new Presets (LUT's) you create.
If you create the new Preset (LUT) using the "Infer LUT" option, and using a reference and sample *.png files the problem does not seem to occur.

I did some investigations as well and noticed a few things:
    - Viveza 2 works fine with all other plugin hosts except APh
    - the wrong colours occur only on 16 bit images, it also occurs in 8 bit images with high resolution
    - Viveza 2 shows the correct colour in 100 %, but shows for a short moment the wrong colour before rendering to 100 %, which doesn't happen within Viveza directly or the other plugin hosts.
    - Viveza 2 shows wrong colours in  0% and 50 %, but the colours are significant different "wrong" between 0 % and 50 %
    - this behaviour above is independently of the display settings (sRGB, AdobeRGB, whatever...)
My setup: latest Google Nik Collection, Win10 Home 64bit 1903 with GeForce drivers 432.00 and a Dell 2713H WQHD Monitor 2560x1440 on DisplyPort.
    I hope it helps...

    Hi,
the issue of colour profile is well fixed for DFine 2 (many thanks for that!), but it still does not work for Viveza 2.

    Hi CarrotMan,
Unfortunately this is a known issue with the NIK Viveza plugin. This is something we would like to have fixed in the future.
    Thanks

Any news on when Viveza 2 will work correctly in Affinity Photo. With version 1.7 there are still wrong colours when an image is opened in Viveza 2. I still use the Nik Collection from Google and I don't plan to invest in the overpriced version from DxO. I am on Windows 10 and like Affinity Photo 1.7 a lot.
    Thanks in advance

nik collection by DXO won’t work with AP, you need the nik by Google. there’s already few threads regarding this plus one on DxO forum requesting the nik collection to work with AP and other software.
    here’s a link for discussion

It would be interesting to know if the new plugins actually work with AP.

Thanks for the information.  Hopefully, this will be an issue that Serif will address in the future.  It's not going to be a problem for me.  Since switching to Affinity I've rarely felt the need to use anything else.

    Hello,

for me, when using my Wacom tablet, I never get the regular tool cursor I get using the mouse but only the default arrow cursor. For example, when using a brush, I have the arrow cursor instead of the circular brush cursor and the tool's effect preview. My tablet ist a CTH-460 and I'm using Win 10 Pro x64.

    Hey all,

The Photo for Windows beta has proven incredibly popular, and I appreciate that, like with any software, there's a learning curve and the requirement to invest time in understanding the software's functionality and idiosyncrasies.

With no firm commitment to delivering them consistently (that bit is important to note  ;) ) I'd like to share some example editing/workflow videos. My aim is to demonstrate Photo's feature set and, hopefully, help viewers understand how the tools and features they're accustomed to using in other software can translate to Photo's implementations.

If you haven't caught them already, it's also worth noting that there's a huge set of video tutorials for Photo available at http://affin.co/PhotoTuts - around 165 at last count.

Adding to this topic, feedback about ongoing operations stalling the UI is also lacking. Various operations take noticeable time even on powerful hardware, rendering the application unresponsive in the process (sometimes even to the extent of triggering a Windows "application does not respond" warning) without there being a progress indicator. This is rather disorienting for the user and not the way blocking operations should be handled. Coupled with the fact the AP is still prone to crash rather frequently, it always makes me fear that it's actually in the progress of crashing once again without me having saved my work prior to it.

curio reacted to Peter Werner in Customizable global Clipping Warning in Photo Persona
It would be great to have global clipping warnings inside of the regular Photo persona.

Photoshop has implemented clipping warning overlays as part of a few tools, such as Levels and Curves, but it won't for instance help you when you are trying to use the dodge and burn tools to get a pure white or pure black background and other workflows.

Since I assume that this is already planned as part of the Curves and Levels improvements on the roadmap, I would suggest to make it a view option, accessible either from the View menu or in the Histogram/Scopes panels that can be used at any time, with any of the tools available instead of adding it only to two or meticulously adding it to all sorts of adjustments manually.

Holding Option inside Levels/Curves and on the Luminosity slider in HSL adjustments, Black&White etc. would then temporary toggle that option to the opposite of its current setting (i.e. on when it's off and off when it's on).

Video cameras often implement the overlay as a zebra pattern, and you can customize the threshold at which it shows up. That's actually a useful workflow for other areas as well. For instance, you could have your clipping warnings at 95% if you wanted to see which areas are reaching a range that while they might not be clipped, would not show detail when offset printing the image.

A preference to animate a zebra pattern inside the clipping warning, like the marching ants of selections do, would also make it help stand out when the image is visually very similar to the overlay pattern.

In the release version Viveza has correct colors with 8-bit sRGB for me only when I use 33%, 50% or 100% preview size inside Viveza.
When I see the full image in Viveza it is desaturated.
With 16-bit sRGB files I have correct colors in Viveza only when I set the preview size in Viveza to 100%.

curio reacted to Stephen_H in [ADe] Dimension tool
I own a copy of iDraw (now called Graphic) from Autodesk for the sole purpose of using its dimension tags on its paths (it's not actually a tool, but rather a stroke style that automatically adds a label showing the length dimension and arrow heads at either end. It even has a document scale so you can draw something 10mm wide, and the label can automatically display 10m if you've applied a 1:1000 scale.

It's an absolute joy to use (it's just a pity that the rest of the application is so horrid) so pleeeeeeeaaaaaase add a dimension tool. Your awesome scaling, snapping and massive zooming has already set the groundwork for it. It seems like a natural progression.
