In today’s free Affinity Photo tutorial will show you how to create a cinematic color grading for any portrait, in just 4 easy steps! Outdoor wedding photos can be a hot or miss depending on the season, light, weather and location.
There are so many factors that can make or break a photoshoot.
But as you already know you have to work with what you have since 99% of the time you cannot reschedule the photo session.
So what can you do when the location or other factors are not optimal for you to be able to deliver amazing photos? Affinity Photo comes to save the day ( ok my self as well 😛 ) In today’s free Affinity Photo tutorial I am going to show you a series of techniques that you can use in order to retouch and transform your wedding ( or even portrait ) photos into cinematic masterpieces
    Got any questions?
Let me know. I would be more than happy to help

Nice! Enjoyed the shadow work at 11:00-12:00 and the helicopter blade work at at 13:00±. Adding the spots for burning cinders just above the explosions is a nice touch and really "sells" the illusion.

Designer was used in the video and I’m pretty sure that the same workflow can be followed in all the Affinity applications but you will have to use the relevant menu choices for the Geometry operations instead of the Designer toolbar buttons.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuleaux_triangle
Here’s how you can create a Reuleaux Triangle, see attached image and video below. (Apologies for the non-technical imprecise language.)
    1. Make sure you have Snapping ON (you may need to put more snapping options ON than you normally have).
    2. Draw a line which will be the bottom two points of the triangle.
    3. Draw a circle with CTRL+SHIFT from a centre at one end of the line so that the edge of the circle meets the other end of the line.
    4. Draw another circle the same way but from the other end of the line.
    5. Draw a line from where the two circles intersect at the top to one end of the line.
    6. Use the Move Tool (with SHIFT pressed) to resize the new line so it crosses the circle completely.
    7. Draw a new circle with a centre at the intersection of the two circles at the top until the side of the new circle snaps to the same horizontal position as the end of the new line.
    8. Delete both of the lines.
    9. Select two circles and use Geometry Intersect.
    10. Select both remaining shapes and use Geometry Intersect again.
The attached image shows some examples of using the corner tool on the shape and some effects (Martin’s “Golden boy”).

Here’s a video showing you how you can make a tri-part circular logo like that in the attached image.
If you try it yourself, make sure you select the correct shapes for each Geometry operation, otherwise things may go wrong quickly.
You don’t need to add the shadow like I did if you don’t want a shadow. (I didn’t use the Inner Shadow Effect for the shadow as that ‘goes round the curve’ which doesn’t look right for this.)
As you will see in the video, using a Symbol lets you make changes to the colours very quickly. (Only Designer has Symbols but you don’t need to use them if you’re using another Affinity application, just duplicate the groups instead of the symbols.)

"The neumorphic effect is a combination of the current famous flat UI and the old skeuomorphic principles! The components have a dark box-shadow on the bottom and a light box-shadow on top; the combination of both creates the effect of the elements pushing themselves through your display."

We are going to create a Neomorphism Style graphic like this one using Layer Effects. We are going to be working only with three colors, one Main Color, A Shadow color and a lighter highlight color.

We are going to be working with the following three colors

Lets start by creating a blank document. In my case, an A4 Horizontal.

Lets select the square shape tool and fill the whole document and give it the MAIN color. This will be the background of our image.

Now create a rounded square shape

Now while having the newly created shaped selected. Apply the following settings to the "Bevel / Emboss" section of the "Layer Effects". Sorry for the misspell ..LOL

Now apply the following settings to the "Color Overlay" section and close the window.

You can use the Shadow color to write text over it. And you can save the settings as a Style and apply it to any shape or text you want, as shown below.

Bonus, if you tick the "Invert" option on the Profile of the "Bevel / Emboss" you can create an inset effect. Also, you might want to activate the "Scale with Object" box at the bottom left of this window.

And this is the result with the Inverted profile selected

Sorry for the crude tutorial but I did it kind of quick. I hope someone find it useful. And if you want to read more about this please visit the following links.

jer reacted to smadell in Paint by Numbers
I am attaching an Affinity Photo macro that turns a photo into a “Paint by Numbers” image. The attached file is a macros category, and should be imported through the “hamburger” menu at the top right of the Library panel. The category can also be imported into the iPad version of Affinity Photo, although there is one important limitation (more on this later).
When you use the macro, it creates a Group called “Paint by Numbers Effect.” All of the changes are inside of this group, so you can turn it on and off simply. Once you look inside the group, you will see multiple layers. From bottom to top, these are:
    1) Original Image - Merge Visible
This is a “merge visible” version of your photo. It includes all of the editing you may have done up until that point.
    2) Posterization Adjustment
This is a Posterize adjustment layer, and is meant to reduce the number of colors/tones used in the effect.
    3) Outlines
This is a separate layer, created (in part) by using a Detect Edges filter. It provides outlines for the areas of color. This mimics the outlines that were present on the Paint by Numbers boards we used as kids.
    4) Normalize Colors
This is a copy of the original Merge Visible image, and has its blend mode set to Color. This is used to reset the posterized colors to more natural ones.
    5) Adjust Brightness & Contrast
This is a finishing adjustment, and can provide a better final effect.
    * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Once you click the macro, you will be presented with a default version of the effect. A dialog box allows you to set a number of parameters. As you change each of these parameters, the Paint by Numbers effect is updated. You are asked:
    Posterize - How Many Colors?
The default value is 4, but values between 3 and 6 generally give good results. If your image is a portrait, judging the final result by looking at what the different values do to the subject’s face is a good idea.
    Outlines - Adjust the Opacity
The default is 50%. Adjust this upward to make the outlines more prominent; adjust it downward to make the outlines less obvious. Set to 0 to make them go away entirely.
    Finish - Adjust the Brightness
    Finish - Adjust the Contrast
The default is 10% brightness, and 20% contrast. Adjust these up or down to give you final effect the desired finish.
When you click Apply, the effect is finalized. Obviously, you can manually change any of the settings after the fact. However, you should know that while the number of posterization levels for the image is non-destructive, the originally chosen number is also used to create the outlines, and this is a destructive change. Although you can change the posterization level after the fact, it is not advisable to do this. The outlines might no longer line up with the individual areas of color.
Also, for some reason, the iPad version of Affinity Photo handles the macro pretty well but will not allow you to change the number of posterization levels before finalizing the effect. It is baked in at 4 levels. You can change this after the fact, but (as above) the number of levels in your posterized image may not match your outlines very well.
Here is the macro in action. The original image is top left; the parameters dialog is shown in its default state, and then changed during the course of the macro; the final effect is shown top right

As always, I am one person with one computer and have not tested this in every possible scenario. Try it and, if you like it, keep it and enjoy it. This forum has provided me with so many good ideas and answers to questions; this macro is my attempt to “pay it forward.”
[Note: Credit where credit is due. I am indebted to Dave Straker, whose recent YouTube video gave me some excellent ideas for this macro. Dave’s channel is called “InAffinity,” and is a steady source of helpful information. Thanks, Dave!]

jer reacted to smadell in Macro Updates for v1.7
In the past few years, I have posted a number of Macros for anyone who wants them. Some have been more widely downloaded than others. With the release of version 1.7, however, I have found that a number of them are using Adjustment Layers that have been updated by Serif. The macros now contain a step invoking the "legacy" version of the adjustment which , once the macro completes, is then automatically updated to the new version.
    So far, so good.
But, version 1.7 puts up a notification stating that the adjustment has been updated, and this notification appears each and every time the macro is invoked. Even though the notification eventually goes away on its own, it's certainly an eyesore if you use the macros more than sporadically.
    Bummer.
So, I am attaching updated versions of the macros that have been affected by this change. These include the Infrared Simulation Effect as well as the more-recently posted Saturation Mask macros. They are labelled as "v1.1" macros, since they have been re-coded with the new versions of the adjustments. Additionally, minor changes were made to the Infrared macro such that all the added layers are contained within a Group (which can be easily turned on or off with a single click).
Both of these are attached to this post, and can be downloaded here. They are macro categories and therefore should be imported into the Library panel (not directly into the Macros panel). You can feel free to delete the older versions, although those older macros will still work - they will just give you the "nag screen" each time they are invoked.
For reference, here are links to the original posts for both sets of macros:
    Infrared Simulation: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/40759-infrared-simulation/
    Saturation Masks: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/76900-saturation-masks-a-simple-method/
    Please enjoy the updated macros.

After that I do a basic overview of a couple of video tutorials I have made in the past. Using the Mirror Filter and the Equation filter to make new images, to then make Styles from.

    @jer
The simplest way to work without investing in expensive and complicated color calibration tools is to work in the sRGB color space.
sRGB is not the largest RGB color space, but it has been adopted by device manufacturers as the most common minimum color gamut that most electronic displays can display. Moreover, most desktop printers (inkjet and laser) sold to offices and home users expect sRGB files, which the printer converts (using it's built-in color engine) to CMYK for output.
And if you ever have need to send a press-ready PDF to a professional offset printer, you can then convert a copy of the document to the CMYK color space profile recommended by your print vendor (in the U.S. it's most commonly "U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2).
Check your Affinity Preferences for Color. There you can set your preferred color space profiles for RGB and CMYK documents. See the attached screenshot below for the Affinity factory defaults.

I should add that if your target output is the printout from your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format printer consider the following:
the quality and finish of your paper (standard uncoated office copy paper, or coated paper for photos or high-fidelity color output) color matching options presented by the print dialog box (with Mac OS I can select either "ColorSync" or "In Printer"; see attached image) If you are still not getting desired results, consider using a Soft Proof adjustment layer at the top of your layer stack (see attached image), where the color profile of your OfficeJet Pro 7740 is selected. If you've installed the printer driver for your printer on your computer, the corresponding color profile should be available for you to select here. This should give you an accurate impression of what the printed output will look like.

I assume you mean how to create the 20 here with filled text then (as far as I've understood it).
Create with grafictext (Arial Black etc.) a big 20 and duplicate that textlayer so you have 2x this one. Now select one of those 20 layers (say the top one) and "Layer > Convert to curves", that should create a group with a layer 2 and 0 inside the group as curves Next select the first of those in the group, the 2 and "Layer > Convert to text layer", afterwards do the same with the other 0 layer. Now fill both of those frametext layers with the text you want (I used "lorem ipsus" filltext see below) Set the normal bottom grafictext layer (20) to no fill and some stroke/outline color, the previously created filled number layers above should shine through. Adjust it's size slightly bigger so there is a little gap place between the bottom stroke color outline and the top textframes (I didn't made that for below screenshot) see ...
