rubs got a reaction from jee7 in [AD] Multiple-page PDFs from the Export persona, how?
I think the Export Persona is a great idea. It's meant to automate repetitive tasks such as deciding which slices to export, naming them and remember your settings, among others. (It was one of my deciding factors when I moved from Xara to Affinity Designer.) I don't see multi-page PDFs would conflict with the existing options. To me it's still an omission, and a quite easy one to solve to begin with. Judging for the many topics regarding the subject to date, others seem so think the same way.

Please note I have hidden some of the most recent comments in this thread as they either violate our guidelines or aren't welcome here on the Affinity Forums.
We understand many users are awaiting support for this format.
As we do not tend to comment on feature requests, I can provide no definitive answer as to whether this will be implemented within the Affinity applications.
Regardless of the feature being requested, we do not allow personal attacks of any kind here on the Affinity Forums, as this is in direct violation of our guidelines.
Therefore I have locked this thread from further replies.

Thank you for confirming that the previous statement "Most software development requires BMPs" will probably be quite exaggerated.
It is clear that DIB has its justification due to the simplicity of decoding in many applications, but it is the memory requirements, which are also very important in embedded applications, that put it at a considerable disadvantage.
So I definitely don't think that it is a dead format, but its representation is already minimal, and it will still decrease (with the current increase in performance, even its easy decoding will not save it :-).

    Hi,
We can discuss as we like, but I believe there is no interest from Serif to pursue this and other issues. We would know, if they bothered to talk with us. I recall a time when they were actively responding to customers via this forum, which was very nice. But this was several years ago: they stopped doing it all of a sudden. And it's hurting their business, no doubt. My company has switched to Figma already and we're not looking back (here's my comment from last year). Figma does not completely replace Designer and they are already semi-deaf like Serif, but their software performs much better for large designs and is not ridden with bugs.
    Have luck,

This is useful stuff, but for me AD still lacks an actual Solo layer option. This would make all layers except the current one invisible (i.e. unmark their checkboxes in the Layers panel).

Don't be, it's just the way Serif is. They had the most promising product once (AD 1.5-1.6), but now they are always busy doing something new. They stopped fixing things and listening to users several years ago. I keep receiving forum notifications, but all I see are old issues like this one never getting addressed and new bugs popping up all the time. I gave up already, my company and myself have switched to Figma for all new designs. No regrets.

I believe a logical way to do that would be to position the fill to the right or to the left (starting from the first node) for open shapes. Thus we'd have:

Closed shapes: Align stroke to Center, Inside, Outside.
Open shapes: Align stroke to Center, Left, Right.

I use constraints a lot (for UI design work) and it happens all the time. The best workaround I know of is to manually reset the constraints of all individual objects.

An obvious bug that exists for a long time along with many others. Looks like Serif's priorities are elsewhere now.  :(

Being a veteran programmer and software/UX tester myself, I can tell you that not all bugs are easily spotted. Some are well hidden and show only under certain circumstances. Some problems in AD, however, wouldn't even fall in the bugs category. The example given is something that's still pending, but it's quite an easy fix in C#/.NET (the technology used in the Windows front-end).

On the other hand, problems like the flawed constraints implementations, are bugs and don't look like easy fixes to me, so they will probably take some time.

Anyway I still wonder how the proirities are sorted. I'd appreciate some clarification.

But you were. I don't expect, or even want, an apology. I'm a big boy. But you should think about what you write.
Pretty poor assessment of the 111,000+ members here. See the point above. I expect any software billed as being billed as for professionals to live up to given standards. Don't you?
People who complain are often people who have paid for the software. To me, that makes them "eligible" to make complaints. How that is handled does matter, but the complaints can be viewed as a passion to see the software get better.
I'll leave this thread alone now.

Serif is markering Affinity Designer as "professional graphic design software for desktop and ipad" and it would be fair to expect people with professional needs and a professional workflow to expect something real and concrete from that sentence. Many workarounds are for amateurs and hobbyists and for struggling through temporary incidents here and now. You bill clients for time used more than anything. How much you can deliver depends on how easy and fast you can archive certain effects. This is not exactly groundbreaking news, so I expect the majority in here are hobbyists and users with simple use cases.
An effective workflow is key and pointless redundant work is costly and not creative in any way. Designer improves my workflow?
I would have to disagree. Designer is not quite there yet. It is a pleasure to work with when doing hobby stuff but the second you (or a client) pour real ambitions into your work it is all about manual work, workarounds and not much support from fx perspective distortion. That alone effectively rules out re-use of some complex layers/groups elsewhere in a drawing. BOOM! Business case falls to the ground, dead. Misplaced over simplistic, silly girlfriend analogies better suited for a much younger audience doesn't change that or the world.
The Affinity Suite is no longer a new product or technology and the honeymoon is over. More is expected and with good right. Let costumers air their concerns, criticism and needs in here without the constant whining from loyal users. Affinity is a commercial supposedly professional suite of programs with a company run forum for feedback from customers. Let costumers talk and let Serif answer professionally.
In fact the waves of emotional answers from hobbyists in here will probably not convince any professional potential customer that the vivid marketing statements are true.
ANYWAY - the current build of 1.8 is just the first build of the new 1.8 code branch surprisingly early. There is nothing new and shining in it yet. It may be a good time for a service release with stabilizing bug fixes, optimizations and fx the long awaited improved expand stroke. But it will be a(nother) momentum killer for Designer if more advanced professional features are scheduled for 2.0 and then available in perhaps 3 years from now. Or longer.
Designer is more than suitable for a segment of creatives - users of the wonderful brushes and textures from Frankentoon, DAUB and Stuart. Has been for years. Other segments are still waiting for small or bigger features for their use cases though. Plenty of evidence for that in this very forum. I don't think you are doing Serif any kind of favor telling these customers or potential customers that they don't need features they damn well know they need. Alternatives are out there.

Oh, I've done it many times already. Same thing for those bugs which are there for ages. To be fair, some of the bugs I've reported were fixed and suggestions I've made were implemented in the past, but Serif is way too slow.
@Jens, if you read carefully above you'll see that my main issues are broken features like constraints and incredibly bad implentations (exclusive to AD!), like non-visual tab settings and no image compressing. I agree with you on "distort / perspective", though

I can confirm that Designer does not yet have Text Rulers. Whether it would be easy for Serif to add them to Designer is not really the issue. The issue is whether they want to add it, or whether they want that feature to remain exclusive to Publisher. Only Serif staff would know, and usually they do not disclose future product plans.
(By the way, AP stands for Affinity Photo, as you will see if you hover your mouse over that term in this post or yours. APu and APub are accepted abbreviations for Affinity Publisher in the forums.)

That's not necessarily bad. Serif must make a profit in order to stay in business. And artboards are powerful enough for most design tasks.
When I started using AD I thought I would miss pages (coming from Corel and Xara), but today I find artboards better and more flexible. They could be improved in several ways, but this is a separate subject.

At least XDP can also have multiple page sizes...easier than CD. While they cannot be moved around any place one wants them, at least there is not the issue of being off a partial pixel. And their Photo type document is really handy. Not to mention it is extremely quick to use and output from.

It's a reasonable request, but the trouble with promising features, is that when they don't appear for whatever reason, people get annoyed - this post is an example of that. So for now, we have nothing to say about future features.
I would also like to re-iterate that we released Designer 5 years ago, and our customers have been receiving free feature and bug fix releases over this period. We think that's pretty reasonable.

Separate Curves will split compound paths into it´s solitary parts: Take an in curves converted "O" and Separate Curves will make it two circular shapes.
And you can make these two additional operations to Keyboard Shortcuts if you like.
