Could you say something about how you produced the artwork for the font in Affinity Designer please?

Apart from a trial period I have not used Affinity Designer, so detail of what you did would be helpful.

For example, did you use a touchscreen and if so, was it with a finger or some sort of stylus, or what?

For my tests I used the Pen Tool in Affinity Publisher, a slow, deliberate process.

At what sort of speed did you draw the characters please? For example, like when using a ballpoint pen during a telephone call and making notes, or like when using an ink pen for lettering something you want to keep.

I drew it using a drawing tablet connected to my pc. Using a just basic vector brush when drawing, and afterwards changing the brush to a special one, and adjusting it a bit.

Which version of FontCreator do you have? Recent versions can create contours directly from raster images, so you don’t need to convert them to vector as a separate step.

    I use the latest version.

The reason to do it with Scanahand templates and run the process through Scanahand is to convert the whole font all at once (instead of copying and converting every character separately).

  3. Great! :)

I insert Scanahand templates in Affinity Designer as artboards, so I can work with all characters (two A4 templates next to each other) as one document - but I can still export the templates separately.

This font is created using Affinity Designer (drawing the basic font), Scanahand (converting images to vector) and FontCreator (finalizing the font):

What would change with a release for you? If it's great now, you can use it already. No need for a "stable" version.

    Yes, it's great already, but...

"As this is a beta it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity where you may be adversely affected by the application failing, including the total loss of any documents."

And the other - and more serious - problem is that you can't yet change between the applications (Affinity Designer & Affinity Photo) when working on an Affinity Publisher document.

If you guys really start bringing out a programm for every task I would regret buying Affinity Photo and Design BIGTIME.

Having a program for every task bloats the software in RAM because the core is loaded multiple times.

also the workflow will be very unintuitive, changing program every few minutes, animating something, need to change something, need to change between program to change brushsize, back to animator, see it still doesn't fit, get back to photo, change brushsize, bla bla.. The more you have to make breaks or think about how it is done, the more you loose the flow.

Making an extra animation persona would be bearable, but a seperate program would shoot the process of creative work.

GIMP is able to make animated GIF
Krita is able to make animated GIF
Corel Draw is able to make animated GIF

PhotoPlus is able to make animated GIF
DrawPlus  is able to make animated GIF (and video and flash...)

Wished I understood that the link on the right was Sellfy... thought that both were Gumroad. FWIW, it's not clear at all that there's 2 ways to pay for your brush set... If I had known one was Sellfy, I would've clicked on Gumroad. See, every time I try to use Sellfy, I have to reset my password. Every. Single. Time. Even if I go back to the site within the same day. I don't really like Sellfy. Their interface is awkward and just off putting to me. And resetting the password (click on the "forgot password" link, get the email, click on the link in the email, go to another Sellfy page, reset the password and then figure out what the hell I was doing to begin with...) is a hurdle that I'll do only for the best... Like anything from you.

Thanks for that, Mike. It sounds as though I saved myself a lot of bother by going down the Gumroad route!

I bought from Sellfy, paid with Paypal. No problems.

  7. I would have liked a double discount, of course, but don't think it's entirely fair to label this as "broken promises" unless we find that the discount for DrawPlus X8 users disappears when the launch offer ends.

I didn't ask for double discount - just answered the question (whether i am a DrawPlus user or beta tester).

But, about the broken promises: As you know, some months ago Serif Executive Chairman Gary Bates sent a message telling: "DrawPlus X8 owners will get a special discounted price for Affinity Designer for Windows...", and even WebPlus and MoviePlus users would get "a special discount".

And now here at Affinity forum:

TonyB - "All Serif DrawPlus owners should have been emailed today. The introductory offer of £29.99 applies to DrawPlus owners and Beta testers. You also get some free goodies for being loyal customers. The offer end on 24th November."

A half hour later (after i wrote that i haven't got any mail and that the same price seems to apply everybody):

TonyB - "We have decided to offer all customers a special discount price to avoid unfairness on who should qualify and who shouldn't."
  8. No, the process of ordering Affinity will create you another account on the Affinity website.

All Serif DrawPlus owners should have been emailed today. The introductory offer of £29.99 applies to DrawPlus owners and Beta testers. You also get some free goodies for being loyal customers. The offer end on 24th November.

I didn't get any mail. And the price £29.99 seems to apply to everybody.

  9. In a previous build there was a slider for adding noise to a fill: a great option, but I can't find it now! Has it gone, or have I simply been looking in the wrong places?

I wondered about the same thing - there was a slider for adding noise (what a great feature!), but i just couldn't find it again, so i thought it was removed :-o And the same goes for many other good features too. Very difficult to find! Eg symbols: i saw them mentioned in a presentation video, but couldn't find in the software. It took a long while until i found out they were just hiding in a secret menu :-/
