It is easy to tell that the way you vision the final result just comes to you. These look fabulous.

I'm always interested to see the different art people share, because everyone has a totally different style.

Mark, if you create a circular grid that has guidelines all the way around and then have objects around that grid applied as symbols, you can create a symmetrical effect based off of those symbols. See how it's done here.

    Bri-Toon reacted to Mark_W in Add a Lighter/Brighter UI-mode (implemented)
The dark UI is OK when options are clearly visible, such as ticked or unticked checkboxes. However when you have a small set of buttons (for example the Typography section of the text Character dialog box) it is not clear which buttons are enabled, disabled or already selected.
Enabled is grey text on a dark-grey background. Disabled is feint-grey text on a dark-grey background. Selected is grey text on a very-dark-grey background. You do not need to make the whole UI lighter, just use colours with more contrast. I have tried to illustrate this on the attached picture using the [Tr] button as an example.

Well that's very nice of you to add that as an attachment.  :)

I learned what booleans actually meant back at the beginning of this year when I first became a member of the forum. Before, I just knew the term as pathfinders, as Illustrator calls it, but I'm realizing booleans is the accurate term.

Well I just learned something new. Good to know. In addition to this, Mediafuel, hold Ctrl and click to select part of a compound shape separately. Ctrl + Click will also select individuals in a group and a clipped object.

    Hello Mediafuel,
If you use the geometry options frequently, the "Operation" buttons are the ones that look like this.

    Hi bleduc,
Here's a way merge them: select all the pixel layers you want to merge, group them, then right-click on the group in the Layers panel and select Rasterise... from the contextual menu. They will me merged into a single pixel layer.

I assume you mean in Photo, right? I ask because there are layer adjustments in Designer as well.

I haven't used Final Cut Pro X. So you're saying it automatically detects less saturated areas of a video or image? That's cool, as oppose to correcting the overall media clip.

    Hi All,

For a number of months now behind the scenes we have been producing a workbook for Affinity Designer, and I'm pleased to let you know it is available from today!

This is a big book - 448 pages, in hardback - and it includes fantastic projects created by some top designers, as well as a comprehensive reference to all our tools and panels, and a set of core skills tutorials.

You can find more information about it here.

Usual price is $49.99 / £37.99, but we are running a 20% discount for the launch making it only $39.99 / £29.99 (+ shipping and handling).

It's worth pointing out that right now the book is only available in English but we do plan to do a German version which should be available towards the end of the year.

    Hope you like it!

    Thanks,
    Ash

At first blush I'd say yes... But if you do this, you'd loose the other function this ux pattern delivers: a foreground/background colour representation.
Also I think you need one more button to swap fill/stroke or F/B.

I'll try to raise a bit...
What I'd love to see in the future is a Properties Studio, where you can recap all the parameters of the selected objects, listed, so you can do this type of manipulations even faster, and also manage multiple fills/strokes/effects

For my last two concepts I decided to create this with Affinity Designer instead of with Affinity Photo. I wanted to see if I could keep the same workflow. I love these programs! You can see more of my concepts and some of my process on my Artstation profile. Enjoy!

It is also the reason that I lot of people are here using talking about and using Affinity; it's because we don't like the Adobe way is doing things and we want another company to make something better. If we were happy with Adobe why would we even be here? We would just keep using the Adobe apps it seems. To listen to some people talk it sounds like they are really happy with the way Adobe works which just begs the question why don't they just use Adobe?

Bri-Toon got a reaction from Patrick Connor in Layer meaning
A curve is single path or shape. Anytime you draw a single line from the start, you create a curve.

A layer is what you can organize curves into. By default, only curves are shown. If you add a new layer, you can click and drag curves into them to keep them organized. The layer can then be collapsed and expanded. (You can also add layers inside layers.)

A clip is when curves are organized inside another curve (not a layer). This creates the ability to put objects inside another creating a window-like structure. Moving the window will move the objects along with it.

A mask is the done when cropping an object (as shown in your attachment with double thumbnails). It works similar to clipped objects because it also creates a window structure, but the window is what is movable. Anything inside does not leave position.

Client asked if I could illustrate a shopping centre in for an infographic, Affinity's guide options were invaluable here, it took a little while to get the angles correct but so pleased with the results.

Another method for creating a seamless tile is the replicate option. First, hold Ctrl/Cmd while dragging the tile to create a duplicate. Then press Ctrl/Cmd J dozens of times to make dozens of duplicates. The replicate option can also create a scale difference. See my example.
