In less than a year, Affinity has changed my workflow in ways I couldn't even imagine some time ago. Here it is, my first project developed entirely using Designer.

my name is Robert (aka Deadbyxmas!), I'm an illustrator, animator etc and by accident I bumped into Affinity Designer a couple of weeks ago (I was probably googling around for alternatives to Ai....don't we all), tried the demo (in between paid jobs...hmm) and then, once I had a better idea of its workflow, bought it and got cracking with a few sketches and ideas.
As usual I tend to explore new software by trial and accident, without tutorials and stuff, so probably I'm still overlooking a lot of its features - I noticed that every time I use it I find a better way around things etc. - but I thought I'd share with you some of my first experiments.
Actually I'm not sure what I can share or not here - there is a pic that is proving quite popular on another social site, but is slightly (veeeeeery slightly, I wouldn't even consider it so) risquè, so you tell me - I can direct you to the external link.
 
In the meantime here's my first (nearly) full illustratration done entirely in AD, included the texture masking.

If i would ever need to brand my name, i would make it look something like this.

I am taking a class from Digital Art Academy. The current assignment was to emulate Roy Lichtenstein, and I decided to create a portrait of Doris Day. I used an old photo as inspiration, and this is the result. I did the hard work (the outlines) in AD, and most of the fills in Painter 2016.
 
I wanted her to be excessively happy, rather than tormented as most of Roy Lichtenstein's women were.

Really amazing Software i feel happy and now this software is my daily driver

Thought it was time I tried doing something start to finish in AD, so here's a work in progress pic of it.

Thought I would share a lovely little project I have been working on this last couple of weeks.
 
Two 30page page educational books for UK charity Epilepsy Action. The story has been adapted for both a Dad and mum version.
To be published in hard form in 2016 also to be released as a digital download sometime before Christmas.
 
Artwork had to adhere to many readability standards and fonts had to follow NHS guidelines for accessibility.
 
All illustration was undertaken in Affinity Designer (of course) and page layout in InDesign (let change that soon hey, Serif Devs).

Another experiment in lo-fi effects. AD more than holding its own at this point, despite me probably pushing my luck with file complexity  :D
 
 

A little Tribute to Nintendo,  i realized this artwork with the idea of the Master Sword lost in a misterious wood at night,  a legendary weapon from the Famous Saga "Legend Of Zelda".
All Vectors, i Use Wacom tablet for help me to draw the details!

First of probably several Xmas card ideas I'm throwing around for the coming season.
 
 

Was trying something different here, attempting to recreate the look of printed material. To this end I've create patterns of 1000s of dots to try and get that letratone/halftone feel.
 
What's impressive is that Affinity Designer's devs aren't kidding when they say the thing never slows down or runs out of memory. It really doesn't. I think this number of objects would have made AI weep tears of blood...

Piece of artwork i made last night in about 6hours whilst being made to watch X-factor re-runs by the wife.

Fernet Branca is a very popular alcoholic drink in my country. Each year they hold a contest aimed to artists and designers to create a series of posters.
