B4ttleCat reacted to Cenda in Flood Fill Selection
Is it possible to fill selection without click? In Photoshop it makes hotkey: Alt+Delete

It would seem advantageous to have “soft select” settings so that you could define only exactly the same colour or same + similar colours. That second option would pick up RGB + CMYK colours that are similar whereas the first would only select the precise RGB or CMYK colour.

Finally. So pleased this has come and it is part of the 1.X version series. Looking forward to trying it out

Preset is pre-set. It shouldn't change. Unless user forces overwrite or somehow confirms the action of updating the preset with new settings. Just my 2c.

Andy...
In response to your comment about Studio Presets – it would be extraordinarily confusing to have a preset update itself when a change is made. In my mind (and only mine, for now), what good is a preset if it is that fluid? To me, the whole idea of a preset is that I can come back to it at any time; in that scenario, it should be stable (in the sense of not updating itself).
Also, how would I ever make a second preset? If I start at my default studio, add and subtract and move around studio panels, then create another preset, it seems I would have 2 presets that have become the same. The only way to do this would be to create the second preset at the beginning and then start changing things. To me (again, this is only me for now) this is the exact opposite of what I would expect.
Obviously, your game and your rules. But I think you'll get more traction (and user acceptance) if the studio presets don't update themselves.

Hi Andy
It IS counter intuitive and is probably not what anyone expected or requested. So no need to code it that way. 🙂
What you actually made is presets that will mutate over time without user accept or an option to return to the exact preset they hoped they saved for future use ... unless they didn't change or move a thing of course since saving the preset? A preset is (also) a clean starting point if the customer regrets later changes to the user interface.
If you keep it this way should be an option disabled as default... but who would enable it? 😐
I would like to meet the Serif UX that recommended this "on the fly" approach.

This is SUCH a useful feature to have.. chioce to find or replace shapes, lines, fills, colours, etc.

I think we all agree but at this point we're talking to the void. Let's wait and see what happens whenever they decide to release an update with a worthwhile selections feature set.

Just to throw my 2 cents in. This is what I'd consider a pretty basic feature for an app like this. It's great to be able to create global colours and they work really well. But I had update 45 PDF files last week which I opened in Publisher and I had to select every line, fill etc and change to a global colour. Took me hours to do something that could have been done in a fraction of the time with 'find and replace'.
If it's assumed that Serif's plan is to steal users from Adobe then this should be given some priority.

It's important that we don't all get false hope with this. It could still be several years before we see anything with the current track record.

Hopefully not using dialogs--unless the user opts to go whole hog. Illy's implementation is simple and pretty elegant.

Well this is actually false advertising! Imagine having to work on that CAD drawing without "select similar" 😂 (even though I'm not sure how you would import it into AD...)

"Five years of intensive refinement since launch have been dedicated to our unwavering vision of a powerful, super-smooth app which improves your workflow and allows your creativity to shine."
"The engine behind Affinity Designer is built to handle huge documents so you can be confident in adding all those tiny details without any compromise to performance."
https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/designer/
Every day I wish I could use Affinity Designer for its intended purpose - my design workflow cannot happen without select same functionality. I can add tiny details but there are always too many to select one by one.
I would like to see redundant requests (and likes) continue until this thread is no longer needed.

B4ttleCat reacted to robinp in [ADe] Select same color / fill / stroke / appearance
Yeah, there’s a lot of excuse making that goes on in this and other threads for why really simple features haven’t been implemented.
Quite often they veer towards the “we should want something better than the basic solution offered elsewhere”. Except what everyone is crying out for IS the basic solution available elsewhere as a minimum.
There are, of course, obviously many ways the ‘select same’ tools in Illustrator could be improved upon. It sounds like Freehand had a much better solution for example. And probably there are much better ways that are available now than there were ~20 years ago with computing power being dramatically increased and resolution of computer screens allowing much more UI detail / info than before.
But, it doesn’t get away from the fact that a basic feature could and should be able to be implemented very quickly. That would be sufficient for people to get their work done. If an earth shattering revolutionary solution is coming years down the line then great, but please just deliver the basic one quickly first so that we can get on.

To be fair, I think if the Serif team opened up to the community and said something like:
"we messed up, we should have dealt with this request years ago but we are now focussed on delivering it ASAP. However, we would love your ideas as to how best to implement it to make it the best implementation of such a feature in any app"
That would have changed the course of this discussion and many would be enthusiastically coming up with and discussing ideas.
That's not happened though and don't think it is really the fault of the community.

B4ttleCat reacted to fde101 in [ADe] Select same color / fill / stroke / appearance
From what I can tell this is a thread that started off as a redundant request for something that had already been asked for, which was then pointed out by someone else, followed by nearly 21 pages of predominantly "me2" and "how is this not there?" and complaints and repetitive comments that add nothing of value to the discussion. If the people developing the software are expected to wade through all of this it is no wonder the feature hasn't been implemented yet. They are probably so fed up with the thread that they don't even want to think about it. I suspect I would be... if I hadn't locked it by now.
It speaks well of Serif that they have put up with it as long as they have...

I agree that an official update on this would be appreciated. One that doesn’t treat us all like kids. It can be caveated, but it would be good to understand what the current aspirations are for when / which version this feature is targeted for @MEB

whilst I agree with the sentiment, please stop posting the same thing over and over.

So there are Probably hundreds of people subscribed to this thread that you’re currently spamming with email notifications. We are with you though in sympathizing and outright frustration, this is a huge oversight on Affinity’s part, but given that it isn’t a priority for them, you’re going to need to just get a trial, month, or ongoing subscription of Adobe Illustrator, because that’s what all of us have to do without select similar.
