Alej reacted to nikpawlak in Photo | Fill with foreground/background color
WANT!
Using a MacBook, Shift+F5 is actually FN+SHIFT+F5 which is a bit of finger yoga.
Also adds a step dealing with the fill popup.
A quick ⌘+DELETE would be much appreciated.

Alej reacted to Bendango in better/faster color picker needed
OK just been chasing this for ever…….
When you are using the color picker make sure “Auto apply” is selected. Then the color automatically applies when you return to the brush.
workflow solution for me…….

Alej reacted to Dan C in The color picker is terribly slow
Hi @TKDV,
Welcome to the Affinity Forums
I can confirm this issue is already logged with our development team & I'll be sure to update this log with your report now.
I hope this helps!

Alej reacted to John Mevis in The color picker is terribly slow
In Affinity Photo, Color Picker is extremely slow. It's terrible. When you use Brush tool and press alt/option to pick color, Color picker work so slow that it causes a lot of anger. please make your Color picker tool quick. Better fast and uptime than beauty.

Alej got a reaction from Snapseed in PSB export support?
+1!
Just bumped into the exact same thing. Onto finding how to auto arrange them in the meantime.
Unity could maybe allow for .PSD support too.

this literally defeats the whole point of having affinity. If I could afford illustrator I would just do everything on that.

Alej reacted to ZufDraw in How to Distort/Free Transform an image?
There is an omission combination of the perspective/warp tool. Look at the image below. This was a simple 2d grid that I put in perpspective and lifted one corner. This is done in PS in two steps but is nearly impossible in AP. In photoshop you can freely transform the 2d grid image (free transform) into the perspective, then, without applying, you can step to mesh warp. That mesh warp is now aligned to the perspective grid! Meaning the mesh warp points are on all four corners in the 3d grid. Now wou only need to lift one corner.
In AP perspective and warp are completely separate. As soon as I want to go to mesh warp, the perspective warp needs to be applied. Now the mesh warp starts in 2d view again meaning its impossible to warp the (already in 3d) grid.
I can use the warp tool from the start but that's really cumbersome.
So what is needed here is a warp tool that can follow up on the perspective tool without a 'reset' of the selection in between.

Thank you Jhoy!
I'm not used to look for this feature under filters =/

Alej reacted to paolo.limoncelli in Helpful explanation of the difference between Brush Flow and Brush Opacity
Yes, these values are the very same between these applications.
A stroke is composed of N dabs repeated along its length.
Flow controls single dab(*) opacity
Opacity controls the whole stroke opacity
Both can be combined achieving rich media effects
An analog comparison:
To have a Wash effect use Flow (Translucent) To have a Glaze effect use Opacity (Transparent) Currently AP can control Flow via tablet pressure (Flow Jitter), but not yet Opacity.
PS can control both.
In AP there is another way to achieve a credible glazing, setting the blending mode to Average.
(*) A dab is basically a brush profile, named nozzle in Affinity

Alej reacted to toltec in Selecting multiple objects in group (in Designer)
Shift plus click to add objects
Press down Alt and drag a marquee completely around the objects you want. You do need to be outside the first object when you start to drag or it copies the object.
If you press Alt and the right mouse button, then drag a marquee, it will select objects the marquee just touches, rather than completely surrounding them. You must release the left mouse button first. Again, you do need to be outside the first object when you start to drag or it copies the object.
Alt plus click selects hidden (or buried) objects.

Alej reacted to cayenne in Shortcut for turning all but one layer not visible and back?
Ok the comes the closest to what I was hoping for....didn't know about option+command A to select all layers...that was the kicker.
I hate to mention the "PS" application, but I was looking for what is commonly done there where you hold a key and click a layer (alt click on windows I think) and it makes all others but that invisible....and then you can re=visible (is that a word? Haha)....with same key and mouse click.
Ok this will work for me, I just was looking now for a quick way to set only 1 layer visible....in this case the bottom most one and I can now easily build up from there.
I love AP, but wow....there are some very hidden work arounds to very common operations in PS....thanks to ALL in the forum for such quick and great answers!!!
Hopefully when I get more proficient, I can return the favor for others.....I also hope there gets to be more info out there on the web for these sorts of questions.
Again, thank you!!

Alej reacted to kirk23 in Pasting Images Into Alpha Channel
Here I did a new version of my previous macro that makes any open file with alpha ready for instant channel editing. Whatever you put in RGB and A groups goes straight into respective channel at export . It works a bit slow because it makes my homemade version of "solidify" to close "black holes" gaps in RGB channels ( where zero alpha pixels multiply pure black on RGB channels) . You can decrease the number of "maxblure" steps to make it quicker .
btw. The only issue with Aphoto and channels is that it multiplys zero value alpha on RGB . I asked Serif to fix it in feature request thread and nobody care . Here my last try.
Let's make Serif hear . If they fix it APhoto would be a better choice really for channel editing since it does it non-destructively. Well Photoshop can do it too , just in less convenient way .

Alej reacted to MEB in Transformations of multiple objects
Hi grapher,
"Transform each" was already implemented in the latest Betas. - select multiple objects (Move Tool) click/enable the Transform Object Separately button in the context toolbar and edit/transform the highlighted object on canvas (the one with the bounding box/handles visible). All the other will equally transform in place.

Alej reacted to kirk23 in Pasting Images Into Alpha Channel
RGBAtemplate.afmacro
Here I did a macro example that can turn any image into RGBA packing layer structure . You get R,G,B and A groups and whatever you put or paint there would only influence corresponding channel.

Alej reacted to Tatom in Pasting Images Into Alpha Channel
'I'd also like to chime in on the fact that you do have macro's (as said earlier) in Photo. So if you aren't happy with the workflow of channel packing, why not make a macro that does it for you?'
I'm not so deep in AF, but on channel-level operations it didn't allow me to record steps. Generally I very rarely use macros for anything (even in PS); I don't need them. When I do, I use 3rd party stuff for that.
'In regards to everything else that was previously discussed, I've also explained the available options you have for working with multiple channels in Photo (one of my previous posts in here). I'd highly recommend (as I said before) to continue tweaking your current workflow within Photo to best suit you, use the macro system and the available tools they have, as it really is far more superior than Photoshop.'
Well, I will see. I still have no idea who could I get back the Affinity example you uploaded from a freshly imported TGA created by someone else. Also it seems that alpha appears on all channels in your example file, I have to guess out how to change that. I also want to check if I link (place without embedding) an image from Affinity Designer as a channel to your file as Roughness (Alpha), will this work or not. There is a lot to discover and I don't like it. After many years any app what changes proven UX methods and forces me to to the same differently is a big 'no go', if from UX aspect it has no reason to do it differently.

Alej reacted to Dan C in [Box Rectangles] PSD files throw an error when opening in Affinity
Hi @Alej,
Thanks for your report and the file provided!
Unfortunately we're aware that not all PSD functions are currently supported in Affinity, however I've not previously seen the specific errors shown in the above screenshot - so I'm logging this file with our developers now, such that they can investigate this further and potentially add support for these in the future.
I hope this helps

Alej reacted to crimity in Pasting Images Into Alpha Channel
Thanks for the video. The main issue I'm experiencing which isn't covered in the video is with how you do the same thing with an alpha channel. Hopefully I'm not missing something but the expectation is to treat Alpha as transparency, right? If so that is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I was trying to test this just now but ran into an issue I have to take care of some other work.
Also I want to be clear that I think Affinity Photo is amazing. I've only recently become aware of it and was extremely surprised with how much faster it is compared to photoshop. This feedback is not meant as a criticism of the app as a whole but a pain point with this type of workflow. I just hope I'm communicating properly so the AP devs will understand the issue game devs are experiencing.

Alej reacted to crimity in Pasting Images Into Alpha Channel
For the devs: I need this functionality on a daily basis as a technical artist working on games as well as any other artist working with textures on any project I've worked on. I was trying to switch over to Affinity completely when I ran into this issue and had to go back to photoshop. What I'm looking for:
Alpha should not have to be transparency. Like in photoshop when you load a TGA, alpha is not considered transparency and when working with some other formats like TIFF it is optional. Photoshops implementation could be better in allowing all formats to be optional on load so with formats like PNG you don't have to go through the main menu bar > Layer > Layer Mask > From Transparency then copy the mask to the alpha channel after loading. Should have a way to quickly select the channel you want to edit and paste or paint directly to it. Without this I'm stuck in Photoshop land.

Alej reacted to Dan C in Opacity/Layer Fill Slider does nothing?
This is logged as a bug with our developers, as no FX symbol shows against the layer when this Fill Opacity slider has been used, if none of the FX are enabled.
I'll get this 'bumped' now, thanks for the report
-
Alej reacted to carl123 in Opacity/Layer Fill Slider does nothing?
Fill Opacity is different to Layer Opacity and is shown below
This only appears when you have FX selected
With certain FXs you will not see any change if you adjust the Fill Opacity
Fill Opacity affects the fill (opacity) of the object that the FX is applied to but not the FX's opacity

Alej reacted to Max P in How to apply Levels or Curves to an Alpha?
For nested :
put a mask layer
color it in + - black with the paint brush
add a level adjustement by example, ( or curve or channel mixer with alpha option)
move it over the mask but has the same verticality, with no offset
Right click on level tool and click on Mask to below ( Ok?! ...Here, it significate nested it)
You have the mask with a nested internal setting...
Thank to MEB

Alej got a reaction from invisfx in Pasting Images Into Alpha Channel
Has this been implemented already?
I know these posts are from many years ago and found myself in this exact situation. But I wonder if I'm doing it wrong (color, copy merged, paste on the composite alpha) but it just pastes a new layer with what was copied.
Thanks in advance, trying to get away from photoshop little by little.
