Hi @goetzebarth Somehow you have adjusted the gutter for the text frame on page 5.  The frames on the other pages have an 8.5mm gutter, while the frame on page 5 has it set to 0mm, as shown below.

It was originally in my project document that I noticed this, but I wanted to reduce complications and simplify the description - hence specifying the blank document.  Glad I'm not alone in this!

We've got that already, with elegance in spades!  From the Help menu, take a look at Text > Text Frames > Flowing text in frames
AutoFlow is your new best friend.

@Bob Grahame You can get utilities that will do this for you on the fly, temporarily displaying them as an overlay on your screen.  I'm on a Mac and recently/finally bought Ergonis' KeyCue.  Here's an example showing my current shortcuts in beta 1.7.0.145.  Note that this includes a few that I have defined myself and should not be regarded as the default set.  Note also that what KeyCue displays is interactive, not just a static graphic that you see here.
Still on Macs, there is at least one other utility that you could try which is free: CheatSheet, from Media Atelier.
I'd be surprised if there wasn't something similar available for Windows users.

I've just downloaded the new iOS 12 installers for my iPhone X and iPad Pro – but I won't be doing the actual installs until later on.  I'm much more excited about this new beta!    Thanks!

Oddly(?), the Hyphenation options more closely reflect what I have set in my System Preferences.

There's a bug where it shows Photo menus instead of Publisher ones, that is triggered by editing keyboard shortcuts or if a text style that has a keyboard shortcut is visible in the Text Styles panel. It will be fixed in the next beta.

So there is nothing we can do in this first beta to make sure the Help window opens on the English landing page?
As a temporary workaround, I set a Safari bookmark to file:///Applications/Affinity%20Publisher%20Beta.app/Contents/Resources/AffinityPublisher.help/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/index.html. That at least gets me to where I can see the ToC on the left (& it is much faster than waiting for Help Viewer to display anything).

GaryLearnTech reacted to midsummer in It keeps crashing...
Sounds like you don't really know what the beta means. When you downloaded the free beta version you read this:
Affinity Publisher is not ready. It was not meant to be ready at this stage. It only works well enough now that we can test it, see if we like the interface & the way it works, and tell the developers which features we'd like to see in the future. Crashes are only to be expected. I think it's very cool that the developers made this beta open and free for all – they didn't have to do that. So the least the relatively small group of developers deserve for their efforts is that we keep our feedback constructive, don't you think? Don't expect the level of support that you'd get for a finished product.
Software development is not easy. Developing a complex suite of design software is not easy – that's why there are so few practical alternatives for Adobe's applications for professionals. I think Publisher looks very promising right now, pretty much as I expected. At beta stage I didn't expect to be able to do any actual work with it. I won't take on any big, demanding design projects with Publisher before I know it's feature complete.
Remember how the first version of InDesign was still practically unusable? People waited for it for a long time, and when it arrived, it had loads of bugs and missing features. It also cost a lot of money, and it was supposed to be finished & ready for production work.
Now you should maybe take a little breather and read through your post again and see how it sounds.

Draw your lines Select them all and create a Group ⌘ + G on the Keyboard Duplicate the Group ⌘ + J on the keyboard, this duplicate will be used as the correct frame for the brush and will allow for transparency over a gradient or multi-coloured background. Rename the Group to "Frame" Select the top Group and Ungroup it ⇧+⌘+G on the keyboard While the Curves are still selected Layer > Expand Stroke Reselect the Curves Layer > Geometry > Add Layer > Geometry > Divide Delete the Curve 2nd from the top in the Layers Panel Select the Curve at the top of the Layers Panel Change the Colour to your Background colour or use No fill for multi-coloured backgrounds Nest your brush stroke to the Curve.

GaryLearnTech got a reaction from John Rostron in Macro records but will not perform
    Hi John
You don't say what values you're using for parameters A, B and C when you run this manually, but when I import your macro, I find A=0.257 and B=C=0.000 – see the screenshot below.
That means that your equation is trying to divide two of your inner bracket terms by C=0 which, mathematically speaking, is just wrong.  It should throw an error.  I'm not sure exactly how AP is managing this error, but the result is that it seems your your equation is being evaluated to "y=y".
The moment you change C to anything non-zero, and then re-apply your macro, the targeted layer is distorted.  So it seems the problem is perhaps in the recording of the macro, that it's somehow capturing A, but leaving B and C set to zero.  I've just done a quick test and it did seem to capture each of the three parameters, so I can't offer an explanation for your recording problem.

Not in designer, but if you also have Affinity Photo
    1. Create some Artistic text
    2. Filters > Distort > Equations
    3. Enter formula shown below
    4. Adjust the Slider A to vary the effect
    This is the formula
    y-(120*a)*sin(380*x/w)

    > BE AWARE! - the sampler will be placed at the top left corner of the document -
    > you can then drag the sampler to the desired location on the image.
    > The top left corner is where every new sampler is created, unlike PS where the sampler gets placed on the location you click.

@kirkt  There's a small trick here you might be missing.  Instead of clicking on the colour sampler icon to have the sampler appear at the top left, the tool has another option.  Drag-and-drop the sampler onto the image.  You'll be given a small loupe tool which can aid your initial positioning (although I sometimes find it actually gets in the road and makes the task fiddly).  Release the mouse button when you have the sampler in position.  The sampler's position can then be fine-tuned in the normal way by dragging (or by going back and drag-and-dropping from the Info panel again if you find the loupe tool useful).

Handy keyboard shortcuts to access channel controls for Levels or Curves adjustment layers?  Ooh, yes please!!  Please!  PLEASE!

I wouldn't complain if they weren't set initially (cmd-1, cmd-2 and cmd-3 are already set by default to View 100%, 200% and 400%, as far as I can see) but having the option apply my own choice of modifiers would be great.

And if we could get that, being able to control the display of the corresponding Histogram channels in a similar manner (by adding, say, the Opt modifier to whatever a user chose for the adjustment layers) would be the icing on the cake!
