GaryLearnTech got a reaction from jmwellborn in Can I customize this interface?
You mean you're not part of the beta programme? Too bad. This DēLonghi/Affinity hybrid (the "Affiniti mk1") is currently limited to using the rotary button on the top to launch the suite all at once. However, I understand that the three buttons down the left will shortly be reprogrammable so that we can launch the individual apps as required, all while making the morning brew… DēLonghi engineers are experimenting with upgrade kits to allow suitably experienced customers to install additional buttons down the opposite side for advanced configuration. 😀

I’ve always particularly admired this one:

GaryLearnTech got a reaction from Alfred in COO Stylus compatibility with Affinity products
@Affinity Rat I got the new pencil with my new iPad, so have had no reason to try the following tip - but you may find it worth a read…

GaryLearnTech got a reaction from Komatös in Rotation of layer by entered degree, is it possible?
Hi @Music-Explorer I'd like to reinforce @Komatös's suggestion to look at using the cropping tool. This video illustrates the straightening function nicely, albeit using a photograph, rather then a scanned image. The video runs a little short of 10 minutes but, if you're pushed for time, jump to straight to 1'39"…

GaryLearnTech got a reaction from yggdr4s17 in QR codes
Maybe not quite what you're after, @yggdr4s17, but watch this short video. It was, if I remember correctly, one of the ones promoted when this new feature was released - it might give you some useable ideas. There are three short demos in the video and the key one is the second one.

GaryLearnTech got a reaction from Peqpantx in 2 questions: on how to export to various formats and another on book editing
If that's typical of your document's layout, I'd reckon there's a strong chance that Word will be able to open (import?) the PDF that you can export from Publisher and accurately maintain the design. I've opened a handful of PDF's into Word over the years (on desktop versions, I haven't tried it on the mobile versions of Word) and have generally been pretty impressed by the results. You've nothing to lose by giving it a shot - let Microsoft do the heavy lifting to get the Word version…

That Spotlight article has given me even more enthusiasm for this style of work thank you ever-so-much for the link to it.👏

That looks like a great article. At a quick glance his work looks simple enough, and in some ways I think it is - no crazy shading and texturing, etc, but still, I can see the artist and experience in it. Thanks for sharing that link. It does offer a glimpse into an approach, to be sure.

GaryLearnTech got a reaction from kat in Import Excel charts/graphs into Affinity Pub 2?
Curious - ladies and gentlemen, we have a new mystery! 😀
Probably something subtly different in how the chart was created in Excel, affecting the data that Microsoft packs into the Copy. The good news(?) is that when I tried that same Excel template, I get rectangles just like you did, so there is consistency there.

Curious… Is it definitely the columns from your chart that are rectangles, @firstdefence? The columns in my demo (corresponding to the data series "Value 1") were a single curve, just like in @kat's screenshot. I'm using the current/latest version of Excel 365.
Once pasted into Publisher, there were just three rectangles:
the outer frame (the topmost layer with a grey stroke and no fill), the blue rectangle in the "legend" - left of centre at the bottom - adjacent to the the text "Value 1". the background (the bottom layer, same size as the outer frame, no stroke, white fill). There would be more legend rectangles if there had been more data series charted as columns (or, presumably, as bars).
Everything else is either Curve or Art Text layers.

Well, I'm learning stuff from this post aren't I, thank you @GaryLearnTech & @bbrother
With regards to this question, it looks like you have the node tool selected (A), and the reason the small columns aren't moving will likely be because none of the actual nodes are selected. If you keep with the node tool (A) try selecting all of the nodes and then dragging or nudging the columns into a closer proximity with the taller columns.
Alternatively select the move tool (V) and then drag or nudge the small columns.
When I copy/paste a chart into Affinity Publisher v2 my columns come in as rectangles, maybe that because I have a newer version?

Single-click your chart in Excel, so the chart alone is selected.
Copy
Return to Publisher.
Paste
The same approach works well for tables too (though you can't single-click a table to select it all in a single action).
(You will probably want to resize the the pasted object in Publisher, so perhaps paste onto a blank page initially, select the result and scale to size, then move or cut/paste onto the intended final page - assuming there's already other content present.)

GaryLearnTech reacted to Ash in 2.5 new features and improvements list
Hi All,
Below is the list of all new feature and improvements which are included in the 2.5 beta (bug fix list is available here).
To learn more about these features please click on the link to go to each feature's dedicated post. To give feedback or report bugs against any of these features please reply to that same post (also check out bug reporting and feedback tips).
Variable Fonts Line Width Tool Pencil Tool Improvements QR Code Object "Default preset" for grid Typography Dialog turned into a Panel Other Improvements Getting the 2.5 beta
If you have not enrolled into the beta program yet and would like to take part, you can do so here. This will immediately give you access to the latest 2.5 beta builds to try for yourself.
If you are already enrolled in the beta program you have two options:
1. If you still have the 2.4 beta installed, you can now run up those beta versions and you will be prompted to update them to the 2.4 beta.
2. If you have uninstalled the 2.4 beta, you will need to go back to Your Account -> Downloads and product keys and find your previous order for the Affinity Beta Software Program, and you can download the 2.5 beta from there.
Thanks,
Ash

GaryLearnTech got a reaction from Alfred in JPEGs not converting from TIFs
Looking at the data in your screenshot, I think the problem is happening at your step #1. Your batch process is not converting the output files. It's outputting copies of your tiff files but renaming them to look like JPEGs. It's your initial batch conversion process that needs investigating.
Affinity Photo is correctly recognising the raw TIFF data, without alerting you to the underlying error (except where "Occasionally I will try to save a .JPEG file but AP flags up 'This file type is unrecognised'.")

GaryLearnTech got a reaction from emmrecs01 in Will Affinity forums remain free or will Canva charge a subscription fee? Answered: Will remain free
I doubt very, very much that Canva will try to monetise the forums. But, let's imagine for a moment that they did. How long do you think it would take for a free, independent alternative to appear? My money would be on "not long"…
