JimGoshorn got a reaction from DanielSoares in The tool bar and other panels are off the edge of the screen
Did you try resetting the preferences by holding down the control key when you open Designer? It presents you with a dialog with preferences to reset. Wish there was a save preferences option for times like this.

JimGoshorn got a reaction from Lutz Pietschker in Divide Objects Below
I would like to see a divide objects below command so we can draw a path line, select the line, use the command and the object(s) below are divided according to the selected path.

JimGoshorn got a reaction from Moe Profane in Drag + Spacebar to move the selection or object...please?
+1. This was going to be my next request. I am constantly repositioning objects when I hold down the spacebar in Illustrator.

JimGoshorn got a reaction from Alison in Artboards should not be mixed with layers, and there should always be one artboard
Gave it some more thought and how about this:
Presuming that there will be both pages and artboards, how about separate panels dedicated to each. When you select a page in the pages panel, all artboards associated with it are highlighted in the artboards panel. Then you select one of the artboards and all layers associated with it are highlighted in the layers panel. It's a little lengthier process but it keeps things both separated and associated. If you wanted the process to be a bit more aggressive, you could set up a kind of isolation where selecting a page isolates all artboards in the artboards panel and selecting an artboard isolates all associated layers in the layers panel.
How's that?

JimGoshorn got a reaction from Ian R in Cut a Path
How about a divide into segments command? Highlight the path, select the command and Designer cuts up the path according to the anchor points. If you are going to offer this ability, how about thinking of offering the ability to add a user defined number of evenly spaced anchor points to a path?

JimGoshorn got a reaction from predick in [ADe] Select same color / fill / stroke / appearance
"I am also incredibly pleased to hear that integration with the Astute Graphics tools is at least being contemplated..."
If Affinity can make that happen, that would be fantastic. Their plug-ins are a main reason to keep Illustrator.

JimGoshorn got a reaction from A_B_C in PPI, not DPI , and numerical entries
Pardon, I stand corrected and it's even worse for me since my mother was an English major. She's probably looking down on me with that you should have known better look on her face

JimGoshorn got a reaction from LilleG in PPI, not DPI , and numerical entries
Time will tell if they will replace the Adobe apps. They both have very innovative solutions for our workflows and it's too soon to throw out the baby with the bathwater because of an inaccuracy.
I think that we can all agree that these developers are more interested in satisfying our requests than most are so there are times that we must agree to disagree and move on.

JimGoshorn got a reaction from MattP in PPI, not DPI , and numerical entries
I think this issue can be chalked up to people either not knowing the difference between dpi and ppi or people knowing better but so used to hearing the incorrect usage that they understand the intent. It's like if a recipe calls for 3 tablespoons of sugar, many people will say 3 tablespoon fulls when the correct way to say it is 3 tablespoons full.
BTW MrFlexo, PPI is actually pixels per inch not points per inch when referring to resolution if you wish to be proper :)

JimGoshorn got a reaction from eduweb in Grey User Interface
Illustrator offers us the choice of black on gray or white on black. I have mine set just bright enough to have black on gray which is easier on my eyes (and easier to read as well).
Please offer us the choice.

Congratulations MattP on your new family addition. She'll be Daddy's little girl and she'll know it ;)

JimGoshorn got a reaction from Farmonsr in Removing Beta Version
I was wondering what one has to do to remove a beta version of Designer or Photo when the final MAS version is issued?
Thanks!

JimGoshorn got a reaction from VeraBund in Photoshop Apply Image Functionality Needed
Just wanted to make a request to have Photoshop's Apply Image functionality included in Photo. It's needed for the alternate frequency separation method as well as channel blending for color correction etc.

JimGoshorn got a reaction from Rocketdrive in Grain/Noise effect
The best way to add grain to retouching so it closely matches the noise in the image, is the one offered in ACR/Lightroom. Basically it takes 3 settings to do:
Intensity of the setting
Size of the grain
Roughness of the grain (is grain hard edged or soft edged)
By using these controls, I have been able to match the noise on any image I have had to retouch. I apply ACR to a gray filled layer in overlay mode which is then clipped to the retouch layer. Now if you want to be complete, you could also add a color setting to the grain feature so it would more closely match color film. Being able to apply this to a layer dynamically would be fantastic!

JimGoshorn got a reaction from Travelling Man in Digital Asset Manager - a.s.a.p.
Considering doing a multiuser DAM would involve writing both client and server software (along with all the complexities that leads to) and dealing with the amount of data that has to be sent back and forth between the client and server, it could be a while (if ever) before there will be a DAM of that type on the market.

JimGoshorn got a reaction from avo in Notes panel
Notes are a necessity. What I would like to see is the ability to add notes to layers and groups as well.

JimGoshorn got a reaction from roedaal in Lightroom Integration
The reason LR can read a layered PSD is because the user has checked maximum compatibility checkbox. This creates a layer in the file which is a flattened version of the file. If maximum capability is not checked for PSD and PSB, the file will show preview not available in LR.

JimGoshorn got a reaction from ronnyb in Artboards should not be mixed with layers, and there should always be one artboard
Maybe if there was a visual distinction for art boards it would make things easier. Bold font, colored outline etc.

JimGoshorn reacted to ronnyb in Feature request: Add "Follow Selection" toggle to Layers palette
It would be most beneficial to have a toggle icon in the Layers panel to automatically select an item both on the Layers panel AND in the document view itself.
So if one clicks on an object in the document, the appropriate item is selected in the Layers panels, and AD/AP would automatically scroll and open all appropriate layers and groups to show the selection in the layers panel.
I know you can right-click and select Find in Layers…, but a toggle would be more useful in many use cases.
thanks for your consideration. REALLY looking forward to next beta, it's been a while since 1.3.5 :)
