When Opening PDF in Affinity text spaces removed

Recommended Posts

Hi

Tried opening a pdf in Affinity. Needed to replace missing font so did so. However in so doing, it deletes all the spaces between words. Tried with multiple different replacement fonts. Is there a fix for this that doesn't entail adding the spaces manually across the entire document or getting the original font (not possible)?

Thanks

Hi herrbork,

Welcome to the forums :)

I'm very sorry to hear this, it isn't a universal issue with PDF import so I can only imagine it is related to the font file used originally. Could you please provide a copy of the PDF so I can look into this here?

Hi @danielv6987,

Welcome to the forums!

As confirmed above,

As this hasn't been reported elsewhere, or replicated by another user, this issue has not been logged with our developers and no changes have been made in this regard.

As requested above, could you please provide a copy of the PDF you're referring to?

Hi :-)

I'm new to affinity publisher, but I just came across a similar problem. I opened a PDF in affinity and all the spaces were gone. When I opened a previous version in a .afpub version it was fine... I updated the document. Then my boss asked me to change the font and when I changed the font all the spaces were gone....

Thank you for your help!!

Welcome to the Affinity forums @Lieke!

I assume a font problem, means that the used font of the PDF is missing on your computer. Could you please upload the original PDF and make a screenshot of the output in APu please? Or if confident ask a moderator for a private upload link, as they might be interested as well in this document.

What was the original font, and what did you change it to?

Hey guys, having the same problem since quite a while. Seems like all academic papers (exams, publications, etc..) have this problem for me. Usually these papers are created with LaTeX. Maybe that's a clue to the problem?

The upload button does not work for me here. Maybe 'cause I'm not signed in. But one of the fonts is CMBX10 (the others have similar names, like CMEX10, CMMI10, ... and of course with other numbers than 10 as well)

Would be cool if you had any ideas how to tackle this issue.

Cheers,
Tom

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. I think we would need to see a PDF with the problem. You might try attaching one to a new post now that you've successfully posted.

Hi and welcome to the forums @Tom_321423,

LaTex apparently ships with fonts. Also I would think some of those are designed for academia and or the sciences.

You have to wait a day or so and make a certain number of posts before you can post images to the forums.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Hello Walt,
yes, now I can. :)

Here are two examples I could not open without losing the spaces...

(Edit: Hello Bruce, thanks for the info! Luckily, uploading pdfs seems to work.)
(Edit: as for the fonts: I personally do not need to preserve the original Fonts.. in my case, I'd be totally happy if I could just replace it with another font.. or, if I'm at least able to open it as uneditable images, but the only way I found to do this way by manually adding every page... maybe I'm missing something here?)

About what missing spaces are you talking about?

Sorry, my apologies! I was one version behind the last update. As you could not reproduce the issue with the same PDF I made sure we got the same version. Now it works!

Really sorry for wasting your time on this one! As the last couple versions all had this issue, I did not consider it to be fixed just like that all of a sudden.

Good work! :):)

@Tom_321423

I can create the same results in you using older version, thanks for coming back to us.
