lesterng
So far I think this is a great program. I am hoping to replace Adobe with Affinity. I would like to see a way to create simple character styles and paragraph styles. Also a way of creating reusable symbols for UI elements and art boards for different size web pages. Staff MEB Posted April 5, 2015 Staff Share Posted April 5, 2015 Hi lesterng, Text styles will be coming at some point. They are an essential part of Affinity Publisher and probably will be ported back to Designer. Symbols, and pages/artboards are already on our roadmap to be implemented. lesterng
Hi MEB, Thanks for the response. I am hoping Affinity publish will be the program that will break me away from InDesign. Typographic features will need to be robust out-of-the-gate. Here are some essential features I use all the time: • Text flow between text areas • Text wraps • Bullets and list items • Text columns • Drop caps • Hang punctuation • Hyphenation • Baseline shift Also use tables in InDesign and the Graphs in Illustrator. r10k
And a lorem ipsum generator :p
Dave Harris
Um, we already have Baseline Shift (Character Panel, or Alt+Shift+Up), and a lorem ipsum generator (Text > Insert Filler Text). We don't do auto-hyphenation yet, but you can insert soft hyphens. The other features mentioned are already planned for Publisher (with the possible exception of graphs and charts), although I can't say whether they'll all be in the initial release. Personally, I'm inclined to release the product as soon as it has enough features to be useful for some people, rather than make those people wait until it can satisfy everyone. ronnyb and Petar Petrenko
RobSuper
I want to reinforce the need for paragraph styles in Designer that can be saved and applied. I believe I understand correctly that this will be part of Publisher, but creating a page with a number of text blocks is extremely repetitious without this feature. Text styles created and saved in a Designer document should of course be picked up by Publisher when opened there. (Now, maybe I've just missed something...?) Thanks. smallreflection
smpcteixeira
The Character and Paragraph Styles are needed too in the AD!!! If I have a bunch of titles or headers with the same characteristics (color, size, etc.) and if I want to change that characteristics for all of them, how can I change it without Character and Paragraph Styles? I'm making my infographic CV in AD with a limited number of colors and if one day I decide to change the color of the text and background I'll have a lot of work because I have to select one by one... More options in the Select Menu (select same fill, stroke, etc.) will help too! Thanks and keep going the good work!
Staff MEB Posted September 15, 2015 Staff Share Posted September 15, 2015 Hi smpcteixeira, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) I'm hoping that some of the text features of Publisher will be then ported back to Designer. Text styles are useful in several areas, some of them part of Designer's scope (like UI Design) so i believe there will be some improvements here. Select objects by their attributes is already planned. The Bearded Bird and smpcteixeira 2 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
ronnyb
Yeah but do we have Gangsta Lorem Ipsum generator? Perhaps an easter egg: Pressing Option + Text > Insert Filler Text? Hmm, I'm gonna have to make this an official feature request, lol... Um, we already have Baseline Shift (Character Panel, or Alt+Shift+Up), and a lorem ipsum generator (Text > Insert Filler Text). We don't do auto-hyphenation yet, but you can insert soft hyphens. pearson222
I have to use Sketch for most of my projects because Affinity doesn't support any kind of character styles...
pearson222
It was on the "Roadmap" back in 2014 but still no support. That doesn't bode well.
Petar Petrenko
So, as I can see, lot of users need specific app features (ex: text/paragraph styles typical for an app like APublisher) to be requested for AD or APh and vice versa. And so, everything is going my way as I mentioned in some previous posts -- all three apps must be joined into one app (through Personas?) to avoid features duplication/triplication. Staff MEB Posted January 23, 2017 Staff Share Posted January 23, 2017 Hi smpcteixeira, It's in the same section as the Layers panel, on the right - the panel is called Text Styles and its visible by default. If you are not seeing it go to menu View ▸ Studio ▸ Text Styles. smpcteixeira 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
