Hi there,

Welcome to the forums.

First change the colour format from Grayscale to RGB. An easy way to do it would be to create a rectangle covering the full image and set it's blending mode to screen.

Thanks,

Gabe.

Set the Blend Mode to something like screen

I actually used a pink fill layer Layer > New Fill Layer but it's the same result.

I have icons selected (from my mask I think) how do I add color? When I hit apply in the edit, fill screen nothing happens.

I seriously think I chose the wrong program for the way my brain works. Everything I try doesn't work, and I only have one client. I used to be able to do this in photoshop, but affinity photo really has me baffled. I can't do the simplest things, and the videos don't address what I'm trying to do, the videos take too long to watch, and they go too fast for me to follow.

Screen doesn't work for every color. I wanted to replace the black with a color, not use layer effects.

How can I select the black ?

It's not a layer effect.

First, turn the document into colour, using the menu command, Document > Colour Format > RGB

Create a new Fill layer Layer > New Fill Layer

Do nothing else except click on whatever colour you like i.e. Pink,

pink.jpg.856b1ae25b8a1092a819d4bca47d9bd0.jpg

that will set the Fill layer to pink

Change the blend mode to Screen

screen.jpg.d413c9b1eca29df56bed2f8fde534df7.jpg

It will turn the image that colour

If you want to end up with a single pink image, with only one layer

Right click on the Fill layer, and choose Merge Down

1l.jpg.ce9a961bde08cbf90aba206592839a48.jpg

Go File > Export and select TIFF

tiff.jpg.a171f564340f4026456cc3b98251a71d.jpg

Save it where you want. Result, one pink .tiff file

Yum Wrap Pink.tiff

Don't worry. After 30 years of using Photoshop I struggled too. With a bit of help from this forum and some trial and error (mostly error) I'm getting the hang of it. I'm sure you will too.

I’m having fun making greeting cards. Doing pretty well. It’s just that one client’s jobs that are driving me crazy.

Is there a shortcut keyboard combo for fill? In photoshop on the Mac it was command delete or control? Delete.

Hmm ... this doesn’t look right!

Where has the last letter of ‘Secondary Colour’ gone? (I don’t have a Mac on which to try to reproduce this.)

Perhaps our American cousins have got the best idea. Remove superfluous letters in words like color to gain space.

That still doesn't explain why they leave the "i" in aluminium though :D

Um. We (Americans) don't; we spell it the right way: aluminum.

Edit. Ah, yes, no second i

Now it makes sense !

I didn't see that first time I looked.

It seems a bit inconsistent.

“Aluminum” is pronounced just as it looks, as is “thru”, so where’s the inconsistency? (The first “o” in “color” is pronounced like the “u” in “fun”, but the same is true for “colour”.)

Whenever I hear an American say aluminium, they always say "aluminum" not pronouncing the second i. This difference is even featured in the Enterprise Rent-a-car advert.

I've never seen the American spelling used, or don't think so. Must be more observant !

But that’s exactly the point! In American English it’s spelled/spelt without a second “i”, and their pronunciation is consistent with that. British English pronunciation is much less consistent with spelling: furzample, “centre” derives from French but we say “-ter” instead of “-tre”. And don’t get me started on English surnames like Cholmondeley and Featherstonehaugh, or Scottish place names like Kirkcudbright and Milngavie....
