pbass Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 Hi, In Photo for iPad, what is the equivalent of Option-Clicking a layer, to (in audio terms) 'Mute' all the other layers temporarily? I.e., to visually isolate a layer's display. Thanks in advance, - pbass InnerPeace 1 Quote
Staff MEB Posted July 19, 2017 Staff Posted July 19, 2017 Hi pbass, As far as i know there's no way to isolate a layer in the iPad version other than hiding all other layers in the Layers Studio. The ⌥ (option/alt) modifier isn't working with a wireless keyboard/ Apple Smart Keyboard as far as i can tell since keyboard shortcuts weren't fully implemented in the iPad version yet. pbass Posted July 19, 2017 Author Posted July 19, 2017 Thanks MEB. Boy, that is a feature I use constantly, on desktop. :^/ It's the quickest way to compare your work to your original; and lets you compare the current histogram to the original. I would really like layer isolation to be available on iPad, even when no keyboard is attached. Audio mixing desks/boards (which let you blend tracks or channels – like layers) have an isolation feature called Solo – there's usually a button labeled with an 'S', on each channel strip. That'd be massively helpful for Layers. Cheers, - pbass Quote
Staff MEB Posted July 19, 2017 Staff Posted July 19, 2017 Yes, it's quite useful i agree. I'm moving this thread to the iPad Feature Requests section. InnerPeace 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

Nighternet Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 This is called "solo". It's used in all sound editing apps. Perhaps because they use far more tracks, or editing solo is more important. Quote
pbass Posted July 19, 2017 Author Posted July 19, 2017 Maybe you could include the idea of an 'S' (for 'Solo') button in the Layers panel – or perhaps 'I' (for isolate), would be more appropriate. Thanks, - pbass Quote
Staff MEB Posted July 19, 2017 Staff Posted July 19, 2017 Nighternet, This is also used in graphic/design apps not only sound editing apps. Affinity Photo (Mac/Win) does it pressing and holding ⌥ (option/alt) while clicking on a layer in the Layers panel. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Nighternet Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 Since there is no keyboard, why not to add a solo icon to the layer menu? anon1 1 Quote

Yes, some kind of icon on the Layers palette would be great. Only a minority of graphics people keep a keyboard connected to their iPad – otherwise most of us would just use a laptop. anon1 1 Quote

It simply creates an inferior laptop. Get a laptop with the detachable touch screen. The reason it's sold is just the gadget madness. anon1 1 Quote

wgphoto Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 This has been possible for some time now on iPad. Within each layer's ... menu you have the option to solo the layer. I use it all the time to before/after my retouches in Photo. Alfred and Paul Mudditt 2 Quote iPad Pro 13 M4/Mac Mini M2, in that order
