shushustorm
Hello everyone! When I change the height or width of a path In the transform tab, Designer will round the values to .x. I am using millimeters and when I enter something like 5.695mm, I will end up with 5.7mm. Is there a way of doing things more accurately? Best wishes, Shu
Fixx
Try Preferences>User Interface>Decimal Places for Unit Types (looks like it but I wonder why AD would round deliberately entered values...) shushustorm
A_B_C
Hi Shu and Fixx, Affinity Designer will not round any numeric values that are entered manually, but use the full numeric precision available. However, any numeric value you enter will be displayed in the user interface as rounded to the number of decimal places you chose in the preferences, just as Fixx said. This feature was obviously implemented with the intention to remove some clutter from the user interface. Hope that helps … :) Alex shushustorm
voom
I have an issue the other way round - when entering values like 297 mm x 210 mm they get changed to 296.8 mm x 209.9 mm - even if that happens while adding decimal points to the preset number, it should be 297.0 mm x 210.0 mm

Does it still happen if you enter values like 297.0 or 210.0? voom
Yes, if I enter values with all decimal points, it still changes. Oh, sorry, this probably only relates to dimensions set with the crop tool, I overlooked the specific mention of the transformation of a path... shushustorm
@Fixx @A_B_C Thank you for your help! It does work after changing the UI settings! However, I haven't seen voom's problem either. A_B_C

Staff Patrick Connor Posted December 11, 2016 Staff Share Posted December 11, 2016 It really doesn't round values...ever. Like Excel, it stores the values as doubles very accurately, but displays at a certain user defined number of decimals. So don't worry as nothing is actually lost no matter how the numbers are shown to you. Aammppaa
@voom If you have Force Pixel Alignment turned on, and enter dimensions in mm (or other real world units) they will be moved to the nearest pixel, which will create a decimal with a fractional part. Could this be what yo are seeing? Really? I also had the suspicion that this could be the case, but my own tests seemed to have shown quite conclusively, that manually entered values always override any snapping setting.

voom
That would make sense, but deactivating that does not change anything. Maybe it is just what is shown and also a neclectable amount, but it is irritating... ;) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5555514/screens/values-APh.mp4 In the screenrecording you can see what happens and that the "force pixel alignment" is turned off
A_B_C
Ah, you were talking about the Crop Tool in Affinity Photo. Yes, I can definitely confirm this issue, and I remember there were some issues with using the millimeter scale in the past: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/27697-resize-document-distortion-even-when-set-properly/ So you should definitely add a report to the “Bugs” subforum … :) Great find, Alex
