Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

Why on earth is the much requested ability to set a default grid since the demise of v1 restricted to internally created documents? It is Affinity 'Photo' - a photo editor for goodness sake. Ever since the demise of v1 it has - and now we find still is - necessary to tediously reset the grid in 'Grid and Axes' in order to align, manually lens correct or perspective adjust a 'photograph' - i.e an external image made by a camera! Very very bad that many requests have been ignored. Quote
Maxdanger Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 Has anyone else noticed that their default grid presets can be deleted over time? I've had it twice now since the 2.5 update where I've created a grid preset and set it as default, only for me to realise a while after that it's been deleted. I have resorted to exporting the preset for my grid and restoring it when this happens. MikeTO Posted August 2, 2024 Posted August 2, 2024 I finally tried this feature for the first time today - I'm more of a guides user. 1. The Create and Cancel buttons are in the wrong order on macOS - all other Affinity Mac dialogs have submit on the right and cancel on the left like the Mac standard. I actually thought the create preset feature didn't work the first couple of times I tried it because I didn't read the button labels. 2. I agree with @len96 that I would expect the default grid I've set to be used for non-Affinity files such as PNG and not just to new files created in Affinity. 3. All of the default presets are metric, perhaps some imperial defaults could be added, too? 4. This isn't new in 2.5 but since I'm here, we set the number of Subdivisions and the colour of Divisions. Perhaps both terms should be one or the other? Mike N Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Wow, I struggled with this in Publisher in Studio Link mode: every time I created new document it set the grid system to isometric, causing the objects to be only allowed to move diagonally on the canvas. I had to switch to Designer persona and go to Window → Isometric → Grid settings... → Pick 1cm Square, and then "Set as default" as Ash showed in the screenshot in the 1st message For people who search this in the future, this thread is the correct answer for the question: affinity publisher isometric grid created by default for the new documents Quote
