Affinity photo update

Recommended Posts

Is the message correct or incorrect? If you are still on 2.3.1, is there some reason you don't want the 2.4.0 update?

offers to update to 2.2.4

The message is a bit confusing, it’s actually telling you that version 2.4.0 of Affinity Photo 2 is available, but the ordering – Affinity Photo 2 2.4.0 – makes it look a little odd.

Serif are aware of this issue.

The message says Affinity Photo 2 - v2.4.0. The first "2" belongs to Affinity Photo's 2 name.

The message says “Affinity Photo 2 2.4.0”. The app’s name is Affinity Photo and the major version is 2, so it’s “Affinity Photo 2” for short. If the point release number is included, it’s “Affinity Photo 2.4” or “Affinity Photo 2.4.0”. Putting the “2” in twice merely serves to confuse, in my humble opinion.

I have to disagree, the name of the application is Affinity Photo 2. They could have (perhaps should have) named it Affinity Photo Two in order to avoid this confusion.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Affinity Photo Two

Often a Roman numeral designation/numbering is used for the next version of the same product (for example, Mark II to denote a second/improved version of the camera).

The trouble with Roman numerals is that there’s almost certainly someone out there who will read ‘Affinity Photo II’ as ‘Affinity Photo Eleven’!!

Sure, there will definitely be someone like that (what percentage of users in the era of artificial intelligence do you guess? 🙂 By the way, it can be helped by the right type of serif font, so that the confusion of II with 11 is really unlikely.
And Affinity Photo Two will certainly be understood by many users as the number of pieces, and there will be questions - that he wants to buy only one, not two installations 🙂

I am not sure how it is named on Windows but on Macs it is definitely named Affinity Photo 2. This can be seen in Finder windows of the Applications folder, on the Dock popup if the app has an icon there, in Terminal, & so on. So it is not short for anything.

It's Affinity Photo 2 on Windows, too.

So why doesn't this brand new product "Affinity Photo 2" have version 1? Even Serif has always talked about a paid upgrade of Affinity Photo from version 1 to version 2. So the name of the product is Affinity Photo, just like Windows, and the addition of the number 2 (10, 11) is just to visually distinguish the versions of one product from each other. That's also why manufacturers use "Sonoma" type code designations to avoid confusion about the numbers in the designation.

All I can tell you is on Macs, in all the places I mentioned above, it is called "Affinity Photo 2." In fact, Terminal commands that do not include the 2 will either fail or open V1 if it installed.
