How do I save an AD V1 legacy file into a V2 file? I only seem to be offered 'Save as' to keep the V1 file but nothing to save as a V2 file or am I missing something here?

When I open the file in V2 I can't 'Save' it but I can 'Save as'. Is this going to save it as the V1 file?

If voting made any difference it wouldn't be allowed!

You can open v1 files in v2, but if you save them from v2 you will no longer be able to open them in v1.

In v2 (the same as in v1) if you Save or Save As it will save as a native Affinity file. If you want to save as other file types you need to Export instead.

v2 Affinity files cannot be opened in v1. (There is no way to save Affinity files from v2 so that they will still be compatible with v1.)

Hope this helps!

To try and hopefully add a little to what PaulEC said above...

When you Save or Save As from the V2 applications you are always saving a V2 file, and V2 files cannot be opened in the V1 applications.

If you open a V1 file the Save function is disabled so that you cannot accidentally save the V2 version of the file with the same filename as the V1 version because because you haven’t made any changes. Once you do make some changes then Save becomes available to use but since the file is saved as a V2 version, you cannot open that file in V1 ever again.

You should be able to Save or Save As with the same filename as the V1 file but you should only do so if you know for sure that you will never need to open it in V1.

You cannot Save or Save As a file from V2 as a V1 file.

Note: Various edits made; thanks to Walt for the better information.

No, Save is not disabled. You are warned upon Opening the V1 file in V2, but if you choose to Continue, you can Save after making changes, and you will lose the ability to Open the file with V1 after that.

Thanks Walt; edits made to prior post.

Note: On Windows, the pop-up has a “Close” button, not a “Continue” button, which is confusing, but already noted in another thread somewhere.

I think you're confusing the pop-up for the Beta opening a Retail file, with the pop-up for V2 Retail opening a V1 file :)

Yes, the "Close" button is a really bad joke.

Given the sub-par quality of some of my recent ‘advice’ you would be well-advised to question what I’ve said but, in this case, as shown by Pšenda’s post above, the button really does say “Close” in the Windows retail version (I’m not part of the beta testing this time round).

Fair enough :)

But I think there really is a difference between the two prompts, with one using Continue and one using Close.

I might be getting muddled here, but I don’t know what you mean by the “two prompts”.
Can you show me what you mean?
Note: This thread is about the retail versions of V1 and V2, not the V2 beta.

My attached image shows what I see when I try to open a V1.10.6 document in V2.0.4.

Here's an example of the Warning provided when opening a Retail Legacy Document with a Beta Version. I think it's fairly clear on the choices and what happens. It seems that the advice of ..could add new features that make it unusable... is the key. Most of the time I elect to Make Copy, error on the safe side. So far, I've not experienced where choosing to Continue, has any adverse affect, as adding, without saving the file.

Maybe a similarly-clear dialog could be used for opening V1 files in V2.

This should have been solved by Serif "before" the release of the V2 version, which it well knew would not be backwards compatible, and that using it together with the V1 version would be problematic, confusing, and in many cases very complicated for users (mainly due to the unusability version V2 due to its many bugs and MSIX). Serif was simply not prepared for these transition problems at all, including the "understandable" dialog that was only added during the first hotfixes.
