After searching many sources online I am confused why this simple object using three shapes as a box doesn't scale to show the white spaces as you can see on the left box example where it closes up?

Any help would be great. Thanks

Are the shapes stroked? If so, strokes don't scale when you scale objects.

They do scale if you want them to! Check the ‘Scale with Object’ option in the Stroke panel.

It might help answer your question if you provided a sample .afdesign document for us to play with.

The FX applied seem to serve no purpose (unless I've missed something)... the way the shapes have been created is slightly odd too, try the attached...

I also had another query where I'm needing to type on a curved path, though the only way I could figure out was to create a circle and type within.

When trying to select other objects the blue line showing the original circle used for the type still shows. Is there a way to remove the top half of that selected line/circle?

Thank you hangman, would you mind explaining simply how you managed to do this? Also not sure what FX stands for...

Sure, if you're just trying to match an existing graphic, whether as part of a logo or something similar that doesn't adhere to any isometric parameters then maybe something like this just using the rectangle and diamond shape tools with the addition of some skew on the rectangles plus the application of a small corner radius...

or if you wanted to go full isometric, then maybe something like this...

FX are a series of built in effects you can add to your graphics, such as 3D, Glows, Overlays, Outlines and Shadows, all found in the FX Panel... For some reason your graphic had an FX Outline applied (evident by the addition of the FX icon in the layers panel adjacent to each layer) though the outline was set to zero so had no actual effect...

Make your circle and cut it using the Knife tool, place your text. Use the Segment tool, or the Pie Tool or the Doughnut tool. Convert them to curves and remove the bits you don't need.

@Old Bruce Thanks for your response, I wanted to be able to still edit the text though just not have a huge circle overlapping all the time. If it's just something I have to put up with then it's fine.

You will still be able to edit the text. It is just the Shape that you convert to curves, then after deleting the bits you won't want you can add the text.

That's exactly the way to create type on a curved path...

Do you mean the blue line that you have selected in your screen grab still shows when you select other objects? It shouldn't if that is the case... You can certainly cut the circle you are using to type your text on but you don't need to. If it has no stroke then it won't be visible...

Are you trying to add text centrally over the white circle so that the white part of the circle don't show where the text appears to give you something like this or have I not quite understood what you're trying to achieve...

@Hangman I just had a lot of circles going on with the blue line stroke where I'd placed the curved text which felt unnecessary and caused issues selecting objects that overlapped. Recreating with the knife tool seemed to half it which helps a bit.

The three shapes have a Contour applied by Contour Tool. For some reason, there is no option to automatically scale the width of Contour when an object is scaled, even when the scaling maintains aspect ratio.

To get the gaps between the objects to be scaled along with the objects, you will need to first bake the Contours, either by the Bake Appearance button in Contour Tool or by applying Convert To Curves command.

It also seems to be buggy if you select all three scaled down shapes, switch to the Contour Tool & try to change the contour radius on all of them at once. At least for me, in the Context toolbar it always shows "0 mm" no matter what radius I set there.

Not happening to me. The field in the toolbar shows whatever I set.

Sounds like you have insufficient decimal places specified in Preferences for display of the values you are using.

I set it to 3 decimal places for mm & it still shows 0 mm regardless of what I enter in the context toolbar.

Are you using a Mac or Windows & which OS version?

It shows to the number of decimal places specified in the unit preferences for me on Mac...
