Why do I see a ghost image of the a file I had previously opened when I reopened AD?

Without a screenshot I'm going to guess it's either excessive alcohol consumption or something to do with your graphics card/drivers/settings

Due to the fact that Boris Johnson is now our Prime Minister, punctuation, spelling and grammar will never be worried about ever again.  We now have far bigger problems to be worried about.

LOL. It was your signature that prompted me to create my own!

No - not alcohol consumption but that will change tomorrow when I go on holiday for a few days.

The image reminds me of the old CRT monitors before screensavers.

I've just had another look and it is now a different image but almost faded away.

Sounds like a monitor issue. If you have MacOS capture a screenshot, is it visible there, too? Can you provide the screenshot?

I see nothing in that screenshot, which should indicate a problem with your monitor or its settings. (Unless it indicates a vision problem on my end, I suppose.)

I had this problem on an iPhone I once owned. Not hardware related. iOS bug. Happened from time to time.

But I see nothing on that screenshot.

Does the ghost image remain on screen or fade away as you continue to use Designer?

I didn't think that you would see it in a screen shot because it is feint.

Every time I go back to a blank AD screen I see a different image but it gradually disappears.

If there is no obvious reason I can live with it.

If it is actually present in what the OS thinks is being displayed, it should be (I think) visible in the screenshot.

Another possibility, perhaps, is that's something your graphics card is doing, perhaps some residual data in its buffers? If so, changing your Designer preferences to use a different graphics rendering method might help diagnose this further.

Ah yes! I know what you mean now!  Once upon a time if you walked into a bank with a mask on the staff would push the alarm button. However today I guess that they would politely ask you first what it was you wanted - to make a deposit or a huge withdrawal?

Look in your Designer Preferences for things related to graphics rendering that might change what video settings Designer is using. I can't help further, as I'm on Windows and have no idea what the Preferences related to that might be in the Mac version.

PK but the fact that it has only just been recently happening suggests something else.

Search the Web for
ghost image computer monitor
and you will find many articles and discussions about ghosting on LCD monitors. Wading through them you should find some that describe your problem.

For example
https://themonitormonitor.com/how-to-fix-monitor-ghosting/
but only you can decide whether any particular article describes your specific problem.

Persistent images are another problem as explained in a much older article at
https://www.cnet.com/news/addressing-common-problems-with-lcd-displays/

As for the political signatures, I do wonder why Serif allows them in the forums. They are a distraction and a disservice to participants, if it's not too political to say so.

Would that be the First Quarto, Second Quarto or First Folio? 😁
