stranded Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 Examples below. 1) If the image is bigger than the actual workspace, fit it to screen 2) if the image is smaller than the workspace, show 100% 3) ability to set custom behavior for zoom levels in the UI MaxStirner, Canticleer and velarde 3
Ciderman Posted December 8, 2019 Posted December 8, 2019 (edited) I agree with stranded. My preference is to work in Separated Mode, both in Affinity Photo and Designer. I find it quite annoying to have an image open at a random window size and magnification, even at a random position (well, life is like a box of chocolates alright...). Equally annoying is the absence of a Fit to Screen command. The Zoom to Fit command only fits the image to its present window, but does not fit the window to the available space. Photoshop's Fit Screen does size both the image and it's window to make best use of available space. So I'd like to expand stranded's wish list by one more point: "1) If the image is bigger than the actual workspace, fit it to screen 2) if the image is smaller than the workspace, show 100% 3) ability to set custom behavior for zoom levels in the UI" 4) ability to zoom both image and window to available space with a single button/command (similar to Fit Screen in PS) Edited December 8, 2019 by Ciderman paaljoachim, MaxStirner and Paintbox 3
Canticleer Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 Count me in, I'd like that too. MaxStirner 1
ashf Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 There's the setting to limit initial size to 100% in the Preferences. But I would like to apply this rule after resizing/cropping images also...

I can clearly read "General> Limit initial zoom to a maximum of 100%" in the guide, here. But if I go to Preferences-> General, I don't see that option anywhere. I am using Photo 1.10.4 Is it possible to have a screenshot of where this option is located? Thanks in advance.

I think this is either a rather gross mistake in the online help or it may be only available to Windows. I am on Mac. Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Chroma Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 I was looking for an answer to the same question when I came across this thread. Apparently, as a Mac user I'm not getting this functionality. I see the last posting is already a 1 year old -is there any chance this feature will be added to the Mac version, or has version 1 been abandoned seeing that version 2 is now available? If so, are there any upgrade options for existing version 1 license owners?
BlueFrog Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Another Mac user here. Is this feature coming to the Mac version anytime soon? I do not see it in the latest version 1.10.6. Could you please also answer questions from the Chroma's post above? Chroma 1
BlueFrog Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 It's been almost two months and there is still no answer. I'm sorry to say this, but your support could do better. These are simple questions.
Staff MEB Posted February 21, 2023 Staff Posted February 21, 2023 Hi @BlueFrog, This option was added to macOS in V2 (Preferences, General section). MikeTO 1 A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
IanSJohnston Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Windows user here, new to the app - It's now 2025 and I can't see if this has been implemented or not, doesn't look like it........ Can the default zoom PLEASE be set to whatever the user wants to in settings. I am using the app on a 2k screen and my largest images are 1280x720, so I have more than enough room to have the app open my images at at 100%. Please implement this. Ian.

There's the option already. but it's only for the initial scale after opening a file. Not applied to the scale after an operation such as resize/crop. Though as I mentioned before, I too want to apply the limit to all situations unless the image is larger than the window.

It's when opening a file that I want. SO where is the option you mention? I have looked everywhere. Right now I am opening my image, dragging the frame to a larger size, hitting CTRL 0 then CTRL 9 This is so cumbersome....... Ian.
GarryP Posted August 16 Posted August 16 2 minutes ago, IanSJohnston said: SO where is the option you mention? Is this what you are looking for?
IanSJohnston Posted August 16 Posted August 16 No, that just limits to a MAX 100%, it doesn't set the initial zoom to 100%. Currently it's 40% default and not configurable anywhere. Ian.
GarryP Posted August 16 Posted August 16 I think that was the option that ashf was talking about. I don’t think there’s a way to set the zoom level to a specific default value for opened documents.
MikeTO Posted August 16 Posted August 16 When you create or open a document, Affinity will scale it to fit the window, just as if you chose Zoom to Fit. This cannot be changed. 7 hours ago, IanSJohnston said: Right now I am opening my image, dragging the frame to a larger size, hitting CTRL 0 then CTRL 9 I don't understand the "dragging the frame to a larger size" part. Affinity should open images inside the application window with a tab so there shouldn't be anything to drag larger. Could you share a screen recording of what is happening? Download a free PDF manual for Affinity Publisher 2.6 Download a quick reference chart for Affinity's Special Characters MacBook Pro (M4 Pro, Tahoe 26.1) and iPad Air (M2, iPadOS 26.1)
IanSJohnston Posted August 16 Posted August 16 I've pushed to Tech Support and had a good dialog with them......they are on-board.......so HOPEFULLY we'll see some mods. I like Affinity Photo 2, it has some positives over PaintShop Pro........like ability to edit text after applying a drop shadow! Ian.
