  1. I'm become crazy by a stupid simple task: How to delete something in an selection? I've selected an area (Rect selection) that i want to delete. Then i press the delete key, but it deletes the complete layer!? I've searched in the Edit- and the Selection-Menu, but nothing. Then i use the help to search for delete, and it finds just the Delete Layer command? Searching for that term in google shows me al lot of impressive tricks, but not how to delete the content inside a simple selection. So i switched to Pixelmator to do that in two seconds... - But that's insane, for such a basic function. Where did you hide the simple delete function?
  2. Hi there, I just finished my first illustration on Affinity Photo, and I can finally think I've found a good alternative to Adobe's softwares Especially one where I can recreate some of my long term habits from Adobe and remain efficient. The only problem I encounter is that I'm really, really used to control the size of my tools with the 2 and 3 key on the top left of the pad (so, rather the é and "). I find it to be the most comfortable for me as my left hand is always around there on the keypad while I'm drawing (oh look, there's also the ctrl and z keys nearby ). Well, so, it was quite disturbing that these num keys, by default, control the tool opacity and you can't change it at all. For now I've combined them with "alt" to control the brush/eraser size but (when I don't forget to press alt) it sometimes creates a conflict with the color picker shortcut (and I'm also used to constantly pick colors with alt). I don't know if I'm the only one wo needs to customize these keys but it would be really great if we could. Thank you and keep up the good work Serif !
  3. JR Workflow Bundle: Shortcuts, Macros, HDR Tools & Brushes Hey all, I'm very happy to be posting this collection of tools that I hope will benefit your workflows in Affinity Photo! This toolset contains custom shortcuts, macros and brushes that are designed to enhance and speed up a variety of different workflows, from typical image editing to more complex masking scenarios, archviz scene creation, HDR image mastering/tone mapping and more. The bundle includes each resource in a separate folder and can be downloaded here: https://affin.co/workflow Here is a quick overview of what this pack features: JR Shortcuts Introduces a number of custom keyboard shortcuts designed to speed up image editing workflows, including: Layer manipulation: showing, hiding, rasterising, mask creation, fill layer creation, flipping and flopping, rotating. Layer stack manipulation: moving layers inside/outside of other layers, insertion inside for next added layer (great for clipping adjustment layers/live filter layers). Matting, filling with primary/secondary colours. Flattening the document, placing embedded documents/images. Quickly creating specific adjustment layers and live filter layers including Live Perspective on Ctrl+T. Pixel selections: selecting partially transparent, sampled colours, saving to spare channels. Rotating the canvas in 15 degree increments, resetting the rotation. Toggling various functionality panels e.g. Macro/Library panels, 32-bit Preview panel, Scope panel, Assets panel. Setting fill to 50% grey, resetting fill to black & white. JR Macros Provides a set of macros to speed up common operations that power users might use. These macros make extensive use of the Procedural Texture and Custom Blur filters as well as channel and masking manipulation to simplify what would otherwise be time-consuming actions. The available macros include: Compositing enhancements: shadow/reflection creation, quick tonal matching, easy layer merging and grouping. Automatic mask creation from layer content with adjustable black and white thresholds to tailor the strength of the mask. Useful for Z depth passes (3D renders) and depth maps (dual camera smartphone images). Fast alpha matte creation from white, green, blue and red backgrounds. Great for cutting out stock imagery non-destructively. Mask creation macros: create mask layers from tonal ranges, alpha ranges and colour ranges. Smoothing: Subtle Gaussian smoothing, both cumulative and luminosity-based, to reduce over- sharpening on stock imagery and out-of-camera JPEGs. Various filter masks: create edge detail masks from laplacian, laplacian of gaussian, directional, sobel and prewitt filters, as well as luminosity and LAB lightness selections. Selective sharpening, local contrast, high pass and clarity filters: quickly set up inverted live filters which you can paint onto to reveal their effect. Retouching Setup: set up frequency separation with multiple high pass layers and additional non- destructive retouching options (vibrance, tonal crunch etc). Channels to layers: convert channels to greyscale layers, mask layers and colour data layers. Channel isolation: quickly isolate red, green and blue channel data onto separate pixel layers. Curves with blend modes: quickly add an entire group full of Curves adjustments that use every blend mode available, allowing you to easily experiment with each option. Rasterise and Inpaint Alpha: quickly trims the canvas bounds, creates and grows a selection based on antialiased transparent areas, then inpaints. Great for when you want to quickly fill in alpha areas created by rotating an image (e.g. when you correct the horizon level). Red/Blue Channel Swap: performs a channel swap with additional user options for infrared imagery. 360 seam-aware retouching: HDR to SDR tone mapping, Clarity and Local Contrast. Tonal Painting layer setups: like dodging & burning but non- destructive with more flexibility. Architecture tools including line drawing retouching, 1-bit greyscale setup. Retouching tools including multiple high pass frequency separation and revealing dust spots/imperfections so you can remove them. Astrophotography retouching: detail extraction for deep sky imagery and general enhancement for wide field imagery. Filter Effects (part of JR Macros) Provides a set of macros for creative and functional filter effects. These include: Tonal compression for recovering contrasty images or expanding dynamic range. Technicolor (2-strip, 3-strip) and Infrared emulation
Infrared channel swapping for actual infrared imagery with various controls to help produce punchy and vibrant results.
Textured Mist/Cloud effects: combine with masking to add cloud texture to a sky, or give the impression of fog or haze on a landscape.
Live Solarise: create a non-destructive solarise effect, control its angle and intensity, then use blending options to change the tones in your image.
Halftone Effects including diagonal lines and continuous dots.
Light Leaks with controllable positioning on canvas.
Dissolve noise and diffuse effects to emulate a Dissolve blend mode. Shadow boost filter for softer, more natural shadow detail enhancement. Warm and Cool Tone filters as an alternative to the White Balance adjustment. Workflow Brushes Provides two new brush categories, Masking and Shadows, designed for quick access to suitable brushes for composite and architectural visualisation work. Masking brushes: Soft round brushes at preset sizes (64px, 256px, 1024px) with tight spacing and full flow. Ideal for consistent brush strokes which are required when painting on and off mask layers. Soft and hard edge variants provided. Textural brushes with dynamics to randomise X/Y spacing and rotation. Great for more realistic blending with cut out layers. Shadow brushes: Oval shaped brushes at preset sizes (64px, 128px). Saves having to create custom brushes with modified shape and rotation. Square shadow brushes for diagram and plan work. HDR Authoring (part of JR Macros) Macros to help author HDR (High Dynamic Range) content and tone map it to SDR (Standard Dynamic Range). The tone mapping to SDR and nonlinear to linear transform macros can be used with SDR displays—the other macros however are intended for use with HDR or EDR displays where the extended brightness values can be displayed. The macros include: Tone Map to SDR: performs tone mapping to SDR, providing user options like separate shadow/highlight mapping, brightness/contrast control and local contrast enhancement. Clamp Max HDR Brightness: restricts the headroom (dynamic range) of the HDR document and clamps it to a specified brightness value. Clamp Max HDR Brightness RGB Mix: as above, but with individual control over how the RGB colour channels are clamped. Filter Only HDR Values: filters through only values above SDR, which is useful for visualising the HDR values in a document. HDR Colour Map: visualises the HDR colour contribution and colour crossover with the ability to modify the threshold for the RGB channels separately. Nonlinear to Linear Transform Correction: Affinity Photo will typically use a non-linear view transform even when in a 32-bit linear colour space—this is so the user can see how the image or document will look when exported to a non-linear format like JPEG/TIFF/PNG etc. However, 3D artists will usually want to have a ‘linear’ look to their render so it looks consistent with what they were working on in their 3D software. Simply run this macro to add a Procedural Texture live filter that performs a gamma transform to achieve this. You can then export your renders to TIFF/JPEG etc and have them look correct. Linear to Nonlinear Transform Correction: included as a reversal to the Nonlinear to Linear transform above, applies a non-destructive non-linear gamma transform. ---- I hope you find the above useful, and in case you missed it, here's the download link again! https://affin.co/workflow Any feedback and/or suggestions are always appreciated.
  4. Hi, I updated to version and for a reason I don't know how to reproduce, keyboard shortcuts (AD and windows ones) stop working after about a minute ONLY in Designer (not windows). 1 - I quit and relaunched AD and the problem appears again about a minute later. I sometimes press the Windows key by mistake, if that helps. 2 - I reverted to AD and there is no problem. So I keep (french) and will wait for further versions, hoping that this bug is known and will be solved. If someone knows more about it... Cédric. Windows 10 Home French 1709 / 16299.309, 16Go Ram, Core i5-6500, Nvidia GTX1060 driver 391.01,.
  5. It would be possible to add a shortcut to change the size, opacity or hardness of the tools more quickly, as can be done in photoshop, that by pressing high and normal click you can vary the size and hardness of the brush, in general for all tools.
  6. Hi devs and fellow affinity users! I am someone who loves using design aids in my workflow but having to constantly turn them all off one by one just to see how my design looks can be very time consuming (and sometimes confusing when using shortcuts for each one). The feature i'm requesting is basically being able to show/hide all the design aids ALTOGETHER such as but not necessarily limited to: bleeds, margins, guides, grids, column guides, etc. Instead of having a separate option for this which I think is unnecessary, I think this could be a useful upgrade for the "Clip to Canvas" option AND to have all contents on the bleed be clipped too since they're not really part of the final design (at least in my case). What do you guys think? I'd be happy to have a conversation with anyone! (I've tried to search if there's a post related to this but it seems like there isn't, and if this feature already exists please do let me know.)
  7. I want a shortcut for this feature options: _ Additional Suggestion: If you click using the Node Tool, it could convert the node mode to the next one in a cycle conversion order. or make that a new tool: "Node converter"
  8. The current way to adjust handlers is too difficult (Using RMB and LMB at the same time). A new tool to adjust handles would fix this inconvenience. _ Otherwise: An option in the settings: keyboard shortcut miscellanious for the adjustment of handles (for example, instead of RMB & LMB I change it to be Shift + LMB or so).
  9. I have noticed that the text leading override shortcut (alt+up/down arrow) stops working for some text blocks but works for new text blocks in the same Affiniy Deisgn file. If it happens to any text block, I need to go and do in the character properties windows by entering the number manually or pressing the arrow key - but this really hampers the workflow and speed. It seems to be happening randomly to some text box and I have not been able to find the reason for it and not sure if I am doing something wrong or if it's just a bug. If I am doing something wrong - it would be great to know how to avoid it, if not, it would be great if this can be fixed soon. This behavior continues even if the file is opened in Affinity Photos (haven't checked with Publisher yet). I have attached an example .afdesign file for you to try it out. leading override shortcut isn't working for some text.afdesign
  10. Hi, I'm looking for the shortcuts for a AZERTY keyboard. The following ones here don't fully work for me... I can change tools using z, j, ... no issue. But I still can't change my tool/brush width the easy way. https://shortcuts.design/toolspage-affinityphoto.html https://affinityspotlight.com/article/downloadable-affinity-keyboard-shortcut-cheat-sheets/ Thanks a lot in advance
  11. When text is highlighted and the subscript shortcut key (Command, Option, control, down arrow) is pressed there is no effect. The menu dropdown works fine, and the superscript shortcut key works, but the subscript shortcut does not.
  12. Since i do very often some repetitive work where i type also a lot of repetitive words, i already made myself a big list of shortcuts in the iOS ”text replacement” options.. it would be great to integrate all those shortcuts in the AP app for iOS.. so, no new option in AP settings, just to connect the native iOS shortcuts to AP, so AP uses them as well.. and i guess it would be nice also for AD to have the same option (not sure if it already has, i use the app rarely)
  13. Hello. Someone posted this several months ago, I found it in the pre 1.7 thread. It seems it hasn't been addressed, it still doesn't work. I'm using Win 10, Affinity Photo version (Microsoft store version). Here's the original post... Using a full-size UK keyboard, arrow keys (up/down/left/right) aren't recognised when customising keyboard shortcuts. In the below example, it won't allow the user to add the default keyboard shortcut back again (Alt-Right), as none of the keyboard arrow keys are recognised. In this situation the user would need to reset all the keyboard shortcuts back to default.
  14. Is there any possibility in Affinity Photo 1.7.1 with the Selection Brush Tool to change the Mode Add or Substract by shortcut? Maybe someone can help me …
  15. Just a little remark. I noticed that, with the 1.7 update, the shortcut Ctrl + J to duplicate a layer has now been assigned to Duplicate Selection .... ! Must therefore be adjusted manually for the time being.
  16. Hello Affinity Photo development team, I'm a newbie to your program, but have worked as a digital illustrator for several years. Affinity Photo is a really nice program - a nice alternative to Photoshop. It could be a great program for digital illustrators and painters... But it is missing a critical option for higher speed efficiency: a fast color picker option by pressing "Ctrl" or "Alt" This is present in Photoshop, Corel Painter, Krita, OpenCanvas, PaintStorm Studio, etc. It is very important to painters to be able to access the color picker quickly. When you hold down "Ctrl" or "Alt" and click on the color - it color picks it. Then when you let go of the "Ctrl" or "Alt" key, it goes back to the tool you were using before. When you have to switch between brush and color picker, this wastes twice the amount of time. An extra second or fraction of a second may not seem like a lot - but it adds up. A painting that would take 2 hours, takes 4 hours. A piece that would take 1 day, takes 2 days. 1 week turns into 2 weeks, etc. This would be a great addition to Affinity Photo - for all artists. One last idea... Is allowing the user to "fix" the color wheel triangle in a fixed position - instead of having it rotate all around pointing at the chosen color. Why? Because having lightness point up, darkness point down, and saturation point right - is far easier for the brain to process than having the triangle flip all around the wheel... it makes picking specific shades across different colors inconsistent.. harder to match the same saturation position on different colors... because it has changed position. It's easier for the brain to map out the color triangle when it's fixed in one position. White up - black down - and saturation to the right.. Would be far easier to remember for artists - who need consistency, and speed in color picking. Thank you immensely for viewing and considering these ideas!!
  17. Sorry to bother with Fireworks features but this one I happened to use a lot. In AD, zooming in with CTRL/+ currently zooms in on the center of the viewport. Fireworks used to do that when you didn't have anyuthing selected. However, if you selected an element on your viewport and hit CTRL/+ you'd zoom in on the selection until ultimately it's full screen centered (similar to double clicking on a thumbnail in the layers panel). Makes sense since you're working on those and want to watch them closer, not?
  18. Hello everyone! This is another feature request. I'd like to request a feature that lets users of Designer and Photo use tools in a straight way when holding shift. For example, when I want to draw a straight line, holding down shift should draw a line between starting point and current cursor location. This behaviour should be added to other tools as well. If I want to use the "Smudge Brush Tool" or the "Inpainting Brush Tool" in a straight way, there is currently no way of doing so that I'm aware of. Adding shift + alt for snapping to multiples of 45° between starting point and current cursor location could be very useful as well. Also, I do know about left clicking using the "Paint Brush Tool", then holding shift and clicking at the end point to get a straight line. But this behaviour is limited to that tool and you don't get a live preview of the line or snapping to multiples of 90° or 45°. The "Free hand Selection Tool" includes a similar feature to the one that I just requested. The difference is that the existing feature doesn't use the cursor location when left mouse clicking for its starting point, but rather the cursor location when starting to hold shift. This does make sense for that specific tool, but I think other tools would benefit from a set starting point at the time when mouse left is clicked. And that existing feature doesn't seem to have any snapping options either, which could be useful sometimes. Best wishes, Shu
  19. I love how each tool can have its own double tap shortcut but the shortcut options are limited. My favorite use of the pencil so far is doing alpha masks. It’s so perfect, precise, and quick in the app + pencil that I’ll probably never do curve selections for cutouts again! One very common task when drawing alpha masks is to switch between black and white colors to draw what part of the layer is visible (white) and what part is hidden (black) Request: Allow double tap shortcut for pencil that switches between two colors, kinda like hitting the X key in photoshop. This will let me quickly swap between black and white brush tool colors when working on alpha masks.
  20. Cmd+Space is old fashion switch command of macOS. Still many people assign this as input switch but default command(Ctrl+Space)
  21. I read that the windows shortcut for brush size and hardness are holding Alt + Right Mouse Button and then dragging left/right or up/down. However this is not working for me. Am I doing something wrong?
  22. Is there a way to disable the opacity shortcut when using the number keys (1-9)? I use Affinity software for digital painting and illustration, and I keep accidentally hitting '3' instead of 'E' for the eraser and changing my brush opacity to 30% by mistake. I've also assigned Cmd+1 and Cmd+2 to rotate my canvas left and right, but the same problem here - I keep accidentally changing my brush opacity in the process if I don't perfectly press Cmd together with the number key. I don't use the number keys to set opacity of my brush anyway, so I would love to disable and/or customise those shortcuts to accommodate my workflow better, but I can't seem to find those keys anywhere in the Keyboard Shortcuts panel. I wouldn't recommend removing this shortcut for those who use it, but perhaps having the option to customise it would be helpful? Thanks in advance.
  23. Hi Everyone, i'm not sure if it's a bug, but i use "insert filler text" a lot, so i decided to give it a shortcut. Usualy when i use the text menu i get classic "Lorem ipsum", but since i have created a shortcut i have what seems to me pieces of "Alice in wonderland". Is that known? Looks like an easter egg of some sort. Haven't found options to set it to "Lorem ipsum". Any idea? Thx ! Ben
  24. In Lightroom, if I want to change from landscape to portrait, or vice versa, in any given crop setting. I can hit Ctrl x, and it does it quickly. Is there such a shortcut in Affinity without having to type in the orientation change on the tool bar? I have searched in preferences, but I have not found it. Thanks
  25. Is there a quick shortcut key/combination I can push to expand/collapse all layers?
