  1. Hi New users (or demo users) of AP ask again and again where they can find the inpainting brush - and that's only the ones bothering to create a forum account for that question. I think it would help a lot if it was the default tool of the healing group.
  2. Hi there, firstly, affinity Designer is simply amazing!! I do apologise for this question if it has already been answered, I did have a look through the pages and never saw it. I want to know if Affinity designer would ever have pre built in design templates for UI and Icon Design? I create a lot of iOS and Android icons and design user interfaces for mobile apps also, it would be super cool if Affinity had a preset iOS, Mac OS and Android icon template as well as standardised UI frameworks built in to speed up my design process. If this is not a feature to be considered, is it possible for me to create these frameworks myself and have them stored ready to use when I need them? Thanks
  3. Hey guys, More UI work. Let me know what you think. https://www.behance.net/gallery/37180653/Android-Weather-App Cheers, Vlad
  4. It seems like Affinity is focusing a lot on features, which I guess is important for the competition, but it seems like as soon as something is done there's no polishing done. My absolute biggest problem right now is the export persona and how it doesn't save settings between exports, how has this been allowed to be broken for over a year? I'm currently trying to move over from Creative Cloud but things like this make it impossible.
  5. Update Dropdown What I did was think about components and what parts belong to what. And for this model to be clear from the UI / UX perspective, it means that the other colour options should be separated into their own panels due to their unique attributes. In my experience, I would recommend removing the colour wheel--it adds no functionality that the sliders can't provide and adds a level of complexity to maintain in the long run. I can't keep working for free, so, this is it from me. ----- Previous -----
  6. Hi, I often have problems to read the histogram with overlapping curves. Its hard to see which channel is responsible for the white curves. I think Apple Photos is doing it better as it always shows the curve outlines in the channel color.
  7. Hi, I'm calling this a bug, because similar apps don't display the same problem (Illustrator, InDesign, Skecth, etc). When scaling text using a two finger gesture on the trackpad, Affinity doesn't seem to know when I've left go/stopped. It always seems to nudge the text another point up or down. In other applications, when I stop moving and let go of the trackpad, it stops modifying the number. I'd get over it if there were sliders or I could use the keyboard arrows, but as it stands I'm hitting CMD+Shift+Option+> just to increase a point size. Thanks for reading.
  8. Hi guys, Latest project made entirely in affinity. Except the gif animation. https://www.behance.net/gallery/33966100/FoodJunky-Application-Design-Concept Cheers, Vlad
  9. Hi I looked at the FAQ list and this is a more hands-on subject, but it's still a real FAQ: Time and again new users ask in the questions forum * why they can't get the inpainting brush tool (and others) to work. The answer is: you have a wrong layer selected. I'm quite sure the question arises so often because some adjustments (like levels) create a correction layer without the user noticing. So it also affects people who aren't actively using layers yet. Feature request: could you add a warning when people try to use inpainting on a wrong layer? * and this are the ones bothering to register in the forum and start a thread
  10. (not a feature, a simple change) I LOVED that affinity assumes you don't want to screw with typography during transforms, so that shift isn't required to constrain XY during transform. But then it blows that by being inconsistent on shape or curve transforms, which does my head in. This would be a simple change to make consistent across the board, and I can't see any good reason to not. Thanks again for this great app.
  11. This keeps popping up in Questions - which also means a lot of people give up without asking: When somebody wants to download the example pictures on the welcome screen, the red x can be confusing and the blue line around the picture (status bar) is easy to overlook, not least because it takes some time to start filling.
  12. Here's something to consider to enhance UX on Affinity products: Current situation: Currently all objects have 2 ways to be rotated: the blue handle at the top of the bounding box via hovering near a corner handle. Currently there exists no way to adjust a shapes Stroke attributes directly on the object itself. Idea: Remove the rotation functionality, since it is redundant, and turn the top handle into a UI control for setting Stroke weight, or perhaps a pop-up for any number of Stroke or even Shape attributes, DIRECTLY on the canvas object. Benefit: Working directly on the object and not having to rely on palettes makes the workflow much smoother and quicker, specially on mobile devices with smaller screens, where physical size is still a limiting factor, as well as for editing while in full screen, hidden studio palette mode. As professional creative apps transition into a multi-touch and stylus enabled operating systems (iPad Pro, ahem), users will be expecting to interact with objects directly on screen, not via abstract palettes. This setup will be friendly for Pencil input. However, this same directness of on-canvas edibility while on limited screen real estate is of benefit on current laptop workflows as well with traditional mouse and Wacom0style input as well. Thanks for your consideration.
  13. I did a search on feature requests on slices, and didn't really see anything on this or in the roadmap. I did see a post that there is more to come for Exporting Personal, but here is a feature(s) I've come to want while working with AD. In Export Personal (AD), if you create multiple slices, they are literally all over the design, yet we have a palette dedicated to the management of those slices. I would suggest that the palette be the "controller" of showing and hiding slices created by a simple selection(s). So, instead of slices constantly cluttering the design, with only corner anchor points being the highlight a slice is selected, hide the slice unless that slice is selected within the palette. This would greatly clear up the interface and provide good UX. Especially since you already have to select the slice that you want to export, this would give clear visual feedback of what a user is exporting without all the clutter of other slices. In addition, to further enhance this, by selecting multiple slices within the palette, it could group slices as a composite export selection. This would allow us to define potential elements of export through slices, without literally having to create every possibility. See attachment. So, since the slices palette already is the determining factor of what is getting exported, and if we hide the slices unless selected, then being able to select multiple elements for different variations of exports would be wonderful as a composite of those selected slices. If anything, at least hide the slices' bounding boxes unless it is selected within the slices palette. Otherwise, it can get very unruly.
  14. Hello guys, Do you have any plans to do like Adobe and go the UI design + Prototyping way? http://blogs.adobe.com/creativecloud/introducing-project-comet-a-new-tool-for-designing-and-prototyping-user-experiences/ Although Adobe is clearly looking in Sketch's way by doing this, bringing prototyping directly inside UI design is a very nice approach. This looks like something that Affinity Designer could eventually do. Or maybe Affinity Publisher... or both. What are your impressions?
  15. I think I had mentioned this one time before awhile back, but would it be possible to (sorry to compare, but like Photoshop) preserve the appearance of fonts (not expanding to curves) in a doc until a layer is selected, instead of discarding all missing fonts upon opening a document? That's something that would be nice for our web developers, so that they can tell what's what without having to install every font to get started.
  16. Duplication is Command + J, Grouping is Command + G, which I find used a lot, yet they are “zoned” on opposite sides of the keyboard due to reach of each key with one hand (while the other is on the mouse or drawing tablet). Workflow commands like duplication, grouping, copy, paste would be much better UX wise to keep commands that are common to one side of the keyboard. (imo) So, suggestion is to make Command + D the default duplication shortcut.
  17. Consideration for having a larger delay before a window tries to absorb another on tabbing/docking of floating windows. Anyone that realizes the efficiency of Expose on a Mac will rarely have that many docked windows. By having windows constantly trying to merge right away while trying to get as much workspace for windows becomes disruptive. Or a check mark in preferences to turn the docking/merging off altogether.
  18. After the recent popularity of my flat icon tutorial, I decided to start a tutorial series focusing on the principles of flat design. In this first tutorial, I focus on basic shapes and flat colors. As an example, I walk through how to make a flat iMac icon like I posted before. To view the tutorial, click here. Hope you like it!
  19. After seeing quite a bit of demand for long shadows in Affinity Designer, I took it upon myself to throw together a basic tutorial to get you guys started with flat icon design in Affinity. My example isn't perfect, but it should be enough to get you going. You can view the tutorial here. Let me know what you guys think!
  20. AP: when I click on the value in Width: I'd like the slider to open at the same time, not only after a second click on the small triangle. Thank you :)
  21. I am very interested in moving into Affinity permanently but so far I don't see any way to create symbols which can be edited as separate documents and then handled as self contained objects within a work document. This is critical to UI/UX work flow (a single change to a button can be instantly reflected in hundreds of documents) and can also be pretty useful for certain styles of illustration with repeating patterns. Dose Affinity handle this in its own way? If not is it on the roadmap to being implemented as a feature? In terms of this feature, it would be wonderful if these symbols can have many states - and each state can have property / behaviours added. In a best case situation this feature set I would be supporting the following: a symbol / object can have multiple states. each state is a separate page, each page has a properties panel to assign an action or variable. e.i. "click / swipe action trigger page [X]" or "if [variable x] is true / false trigger page [X]" symbols can be exported as SVG / PNG / GIF and each additional state is saved as a child file. e.i. button_X.png, button_X_focus.png, button_X_disable.png, button_X_hover.png symbols groups can be exported as an Axure RP library - this would be sooooo awesome but obviously difficult as the framework is very different in the Export Persona mode, symbols can be automatically spliced and placed into HTML for quick mockups
  22. Observation: - Lots of items in Layers Panel - I dig down deep into a group tree, aiming to add eyebrow shapes to a head. - AD creates the new items at the top of Layers Panel. Have to scroll a mile up, and then drag them down to where I want them to be (in that head group I aimed to work in). It would be much more intuitive to place those shapes above the last selection before creation began. Perhaps there is already a way to do it? If so, how?
  23. Hi! I really love almost everything about the affinity UI, it is an astoundingly nice piece of software to use with one exception. These dropdowns have a delay to become usable/visible. They take a tad long - and the time feels longer the bigger the widget. This hurts usability, especially when you have to pick a color 10 times in a row (or any repetition) - it stacks up real fast. As an adept user, I sometimes spend more time waiting for animations to finish then actually working. And more subjectively, they are animated with a scale effect, which I find personally a little tacky when surrounded by the other elegant design :) Feature Request Please add a settings panel (Preferences -> User Interface) to configure: - The pop up show speed/time (in ms for example) or: - Whether or not the widgets animate (that would implicitly lower the time) Since some people may love the effect, and it may have good reason to exist, having the option to speed it up as well as toggle it seems the best of both worlds. Thanks for the excellent software and keep up the good work.
  24. Hey there, I'm starting a post about the interface problems in order to list and create a roadmap like kind of post. I'm gonna also suggest some optimisations of the UI in order sometimes to gain only 1 click, but definitely improve workflow and reduce the amont of stress/anxiety people get when starting using a new app. I apologize for my English and if a Moderator wants to edit my posts, I have no problem with that. I'm going to edit this post regularly and add screenshots of the issues I encounter as well as the suggestions. Issues Case 01: This is my current workspace and this just happened, the dropdown menu should have the higher z-index value in my mind. Case 02: I find it really hard to resize the Tool Panels (Finding the scale cursor at the bottom of the panel). It is not possible to resize the boxes once they are snapped and some Tool Panels have always the same size where they aren't floating like the Swatches Panel which result in the lost of usable space. Case 03: It is currently not possible to create two columns of Tool Panel next to each other, the second one can only be made of floating menus. Suggestions - When the gradient tool is selected, a large part of the Tool area is empty, whereas we have two dropdown menus "Context" & "Type". It would be nice to have icons instead on the free space available like the two blue highlighted icons on the image. It would save many clicks. - When you create a color palette from system/document/application it gives you a tons of colours. And I didn't find a way to remove several colours at once and it will take age to remove them one by one. This is a problem for creating style guide for example. - Is there a keyboard shortcut for the colour picker? I didn't find it in the documentation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thanks for your time and I hope you find that is relevant feedbacks and useful post. Have a nice day! Eddy
