  1. I have file that was made in (of course) illustrator with some graphics. When I open in AD, they are literally slices with Curves adjustments - Open in Illustrator and click the graphics I want copy for pasting in AP and after a couple clicks, I can Select the group of graphics. Anyways. Thoughts? Also last thing. Here is what Illustrate says about slices when I open the EPS in Illi.
  2. Hey! I just bought Affinity Designer this week. I have some experience in Adobe Illustrator, but am fairly new to vector art. I want to start selling vectors on Shutterstock and am working on a set of simple fruit and vegetable images to get familiar with vector creation and the process of exporting them in a format customers will be able to use. Shutterstock requires that vectors be uploaded as EPS files. I tried uploading this as one of my first images: 7-5-16_fruit_n_veggies_peapod.afdesign It got rejected because it contains bitmapping. Is this because I'm using an effect that gets rasterized that I'm not aware of, or is it because EPS rasterizes no matter what? Or is something else going on? I appreciate any help anyone can give me.
  3. HiHi! First of all, AD is my new favourite thing in the world, ever. I'm buying it, even though it's not quite fit for the purpose of Motion Graphics just yet. I've posted in the forum in case i've missed something but will AD be able to export a layered vector file format for use in AE? I'm desperate for AD to work in the After Effects pipeline without having to do workarounds. (Raster is no good for the Mograph we do at the current agency) Illustrator sucks! :P AD is epic! B)
  4. I have a subscription to VectorState and lately I experience that the files I download is an extremely bad quality - see the attached two files. I have been in contact with their support and they claim that the .eps files is not only restricted to Adobe software and that it probably is something wrong with Affinity Designer (they compare it with CorelDraw that has the same problems they say). And they said that maybe some designers who has uploaded their graphic have done it in a wrong way abd that they can't control that. Before I go on and complain I just want to check if any one else has experienced such thing with VectorState files? Thanks! Jesper ING_38192_05667.eps ING_38192_05668.eps
  5. Hello, I'm new to the forum so apologies if this question has been asked before. Anyway, I now and then create vector stock images and this is the first time I've done the work with Affinity Designer, mainly because I cannot stand Adobe Illustrator. But the problem is that stock agencies usually demand you send them Illustrator compatible eps files. Therefor I always check the final art in Illustrator. When importing the eps (and pdf) files I created with Affinity, I noticed that the gradient fills have been rasterized to bitmaps (this is a usual phenomena with other programs as well). Is there any workaround to import Affinity created files to Illustrator with the gradients intact. They are simple two color gradients, nothing fancy. It doesn't have to be eps or pdf, anything will do, as I can save them as eps in Illustrator after I have checked that everything is OK. The only solution so far is to create the gradients in Illustrator. -Paul
  6. 1) I made a fairly complex graphic with probably 200+ layers and I aim to animate this graphic, probably in After Effects. I named all my elements and organised them in folders and subfolders so it would be easy to identify what is what when it comes to creating the animation. I'm pretty new to After Effects, so learning how to pull files from Illustrator and move forward. The problem I have is: If I export (to .eps, .pdf or .svg) all the folders vanish. In Illustrator there is simply one folder with all the various layers in it (I'm on Illustrator CC 2015 v.19). If find Illustrator's interface a nightmare. Do I really have to go through 200+layers and put them in folders all over again? 2) Do you have any recommendations for programs other than After Effects (which is great, but very complex for my needs) that would work well in animating something produced in AD?
  7. Hi, I have been using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS2 for several years without issue but I am looking to change over to Affinity Designer as I have several new devices that are no longer compatible with CS2. I have been really impressed by Affinity Designer and it appears it can do all the things I'm looking for, so I'm planning on buying it :) However, all my previous files I have made with Illustrator I have saved as EPS files and when I open these in Affinity Designer it looks like only the layer that was visible at time of saving is displayed. It appears the same if I save the file as an AI file. I re-saved the file in Illustrator with all the layers displayed but when I opened this file in Affinity Designer it only showed a single layer and although it looks like all the content is present under this layer it's not the same layer organisation as when I open it in Illustrator. Is anyone able to suggest what I can do to make my existing EPS files more manageable in Affinity Designer? Layers in Illustrator: Layers in Affinity:
  8. I am having issues with affinity designer eps exports. There seems to be some type of issue with how text colors are exported. When using any number of vinyl cutting software, the eps file doesn't seem to render the correct color of my text. This happens with regular text, and text that has been converted to curves. I have discovered that exporting out of adobe illustrator has the same effect unless the option to (embed fonts for other applications) is turned on. Once fonts are embeded in the eps file, the colors are preserved. This seems to be the issue that I am having with the eps export in affinity. When I open an affinity eps file in textedit, I can see that all text is saved as curves. When opening an eps file that was created in adobe, text is saved as a font. So question is, can you set up an option in the affinity eps export to enable the embedding of fonts? I am happy to send private copies of my files if you would like to see them.
  9. Hi, I draw some strokes for a logo (look at the attached picture). I used strokes and changed the pressure to have different width along the line. The end of the stroke is round. I wanted to export my work in eps format to be able to print it ou use it with Illustrator... I saw in the eps file in illustrator that the round of my stokes became broken lines. Come back in AD, I decide to vectorise the stroke (layer menu). In french it's called "vectoriser le contour". And I obtain the same result : broken lines... Is it a normal behavior ? I also wonder why there are so many nodes (and no tools to simplify all those nodes). It's very difficult to change/adjust quickly the curve with so many useless nodes !! I hope my explanation is clear. Thank you.
  10. I, on mac the preview show the eps correctly but in Designer i have only the image (pixel) on the left on capture everyone vector don't work on designer :( metalskullrockstar.eps
  11. I've been using Affinity Designer for some time now but lately I've come across an issue that's turning out to be a big pain in my work. I have two files that look great in .afdesign format but once I export them to EPS, SVG, PDF or any other format the result isn't the same shown in Affinity. In one, the guy at the print shop says my shapes appear in tones of black and grey even thou they appear all black in my computer (be it in Affinity or Illustrator). The other is a drawing that, in all the formats seem to result in thicker and overlapping black lines (take a look at the background houses as an example). I've tried every type of export alternative and software program to open that I can think of, and the problem is always there. Does anyone ever ran into similar issues or know what probably is going wrong? Thank you in advance! Any input is welcome!
  12. Hi all. First a quick thanks for the latest update!! Bleeds and print marks finally made AD a viable option for me :) ! This is my last big stumbling block.... Bringing vector shapes into my 3D software. I use Lightwave 3D. After zero initial success I discovered that changing the Fill Mode to "Winding" was key. However, I'm still having a problem with booleaned objects with fully enclosed interior shapes. Here's an example of several simple booleans and the import result. You can see the issue(s) on the top three shapes (the A has been converted to curves). It seems to only work on objects I can't "unboolean" by hitting divide. In other words (apart from an undo) the Boolean is permanent on the successful shapes. Suggestions?
  13. Features Wish list: Even though I have only just started using AD, there are so many things to love here. What a great start guys! There are a few things that would speed up my workflow and make drawing more enjoyable for me. Some sort of blob brush would be nice. Rather than a brush with an editable path, a brush that is already expanded into a shape as you draw. I do a lot of sketchy type work and this would be a great addition. I tend to draw with the pencil tool and a fill color. I draw tons of shapes very quickly and I would love a way to quickly close the shape by pressing a keyboard (option or cmmd key?) as I get close to the original starting node. Closing shapes is important to me, but it can take a long time to stop and select the shape then use the close shapes feature. Or maybe you could add the ‘close shapes’ button to the tool bar while the pencil tool is being used? That way one could just click that while the shape is already selected. Or perhaps the shape could just close automatically if you draw over to the original node. An eraser tool that works on both shapes or lines when in vector mode. Sometimes I use the ai eraser tool as a drawing tool. Move Tool: I would like to be able to drag this across several items at once to delete them. Currently I have click each but dragging across would be a quick option and nice to have. Move a specific distance: I make a lots of seamless patterns so being able to mathematically move items would be important for me. That future pasteboard area would become helpful to see things hanging over the edges. I have tried using the transform tool to move items but it’s not quite working for me yet. EPS: Different versions of eps would be helpful. The site I work for only allows version 10 eps so one would still need to open their file in Illustrator etc and re-save to the correct level. I know other sites also have some file restrictions as well. Paste in Front or Back. I guess the current paste does already past in front but having a paste in back would be nice as well. Sorry my list is so long! I'd love to beta test any new builds so i'll try to keep an eye out for them :)
  14. Hello everybody,- i am new in this Forum, and Affinty Designer First,- thanks for the promising good App, as well as Photo! Second,- i speak german, and like to illustrate my words with a graphic, if possible. And now my first question. - when i export from AD to PDF for print (300dpi), i get artifacts (Skim and Apple Vorschau). - export to EPS Level 2 works perfect. Skim is converting it fine. Witch i could not open in Windows 10 with Acrobat. - export as EPS Level 3, and import it again in AD has some glitches. So, how do i export to PDF right? My document is in sRGB.
  15. Guys, it should be great app for microstock contributors. There're a huge amount of users, who can prefer AD instead of Illustrator. But there're many things that you need to do, if you want to increase the amount of users. The main thing for microstock illustrators is normal export to EPS format, especially EPS10, that all microstocks approve (http://goo.gl/oIYOpA). "Normal": 1) without problems of rasterization (now with gradients) 2) with handy option of expanding, like in AI (text, brushes, lines, etc.) 3) with the possibility to continue editing in Illustrator - hope it's temporary. http://www.istockphoto.com/help/sell-stock/training-manuals/illustration/quality-standards - this manual can help you. You are just amazing! Waiting for more comfortable version for microstock illustrators. You must think about this, seriously. Microstock users are a huge piece of world market of illustrators. p.s. sorry for not so perfect english
  16. Hi, I really like to draw with Designer, but sadly, I can't use it for most of my designs, because they get completely broken after pasting them to Sketch, Photoshop or Keynote: Check the append screenshots: Steps to reproduce: 1. Start Affinity Designer 2. Select Pencil 3. Set controller to anything but None 4. Draw something with Wacom (or with mouse and acceleration) 5. Select pencil strokes 6. Copy 7. Paste to Keynote, Sketch or Photoshop 8. The artifacts also appear when exporting as EPS. Assigning a brush-stroke shape with constant width removes the problem but looks ugly. Interestingly, every brush-shape preset produces different but reproducible artifacts. Does anybody else had the problem? Any hints or work-arounds? BR, tom
  17. OK, so one of the first things I do when looking at a new piece of software is see if it is "truly" compatible with Adobe illustrator. That is, it can not only import but export a usable file. Just about every software I have used cannot export gradients without breaking down each color into little bands or rasterizing it. Xara Extreme is the only one I have found thats works well, though they only have a PC version. It seems Affinity Designer is one that does NOT work will with exporting eps or svg files with gradients. Although it says that it can, and there is even a check box that allows files to be editable as a vector file, if there is any object overlapping, if there is a gradient, forget it. In fact, I created a box with a single color and one curve, exported as a eps, and it converted it to a bitmap. (see attached). One of the second things I do is see if I can draw a straight line at a specific angle, or at a angle specified in snap mode. I didn't find that feature yet. Anyone? I create stock illustrations and these stock sites insist on editable EPS version 10 files, no bitmaps objects. I'm think I did not find my replacement for Illustrator. ___ This make this software totally unusable for me. SO, I was hoping that someone could prove me wrong and show me how this will work.
  18. Hi @ all, I have to send a 76x66cm photocollage including a cut to a printservice. The original .afphoto file with all pics is about 400MB. Affinity photo is working already for 2 hours now to export to .eps @ 300dpi. Does anyone know how long it will take to finish this export? Will go to bed now, hopefully it is done next morning. ;-) Best regards, Michael
  19. Hi. cannot export EPS file, it's insane. Keep trying to reserve the file - it either hangs on my machine or just exports a useless eps file. Please help me ASAP, I need to send this for a job and am now totally dead in the water... Edit: I just received word of another problem wit a separate EPS export so I'm attaching the files in question on this post. medallions and armours.eps kopi xaraksi 3 sampe.afdesign kopi xaraksi 3 sample.eps
  20. An EPS graphics won't open properly in Affinity. It opens perfectly in AI. As you can see the colours and shadow are wrong in Affinity. Can I send you it by email for you to check it out?
  21. I had a major problem exporting on a recent large format project from AD, and now the problem is happening all over again (v1.3.5). Basically, any large dimension file (8+ feet) containing a raster image cannot give me a properly exported file. When the document is all vectors, I don't seem to have an issue. While the exports appear fine in Preview, they come with a wealth of postscript errors when trying to send to multiple industry-standard printing programs like Rasterlink Pro, Corel, etc. This is happening no matter what I export. Even worse, I can hardly get a JPG exported that will open in any other program. I love your program so much - please don't make have to open up Illustrator/Photoshop for any large print work!
  22. Hi All, New to Designer and still getting use to the software and features. I am having some trouble with exporting a project to EPS format for production on a laser cutter. I have masked a texture with a region so that the texture lines only appear within the region bounds (accomplished by making the texture a sub-layer of the region). The exported EPS file looks fine but when it is loaded into the laser cutter the texture's hidden lines (outside of the region's boundary) appear. The EPS does not 'flatten' the layers and remove the hidden lines (issue is similar to the one explained here: http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13723, they just have pretty pictures). I have attached the original EPS file and a snapshot of what the laser cutter sees. Is there an easy way to remove these hidden lines from the EPS file? Thanks in advance for the help, Sean Test Cut.eps
  23. when I export eps format from AD and try to open it with Illustrator, the layers all fall into one feel frustrated , does anyone know how to solve this?
  24. I am trying to print a large banner 37 feet by 4 feet. I can create the canvas and then place all of the content onto the canvas and save the document as an afdesign file. But every time that I try and export any output I get the "boing" sound indicating an error of some type and I am unable to export anything in any form, bitmapped or vector. I have no bitmapped content and no effects for which bitmapping might be applied. If the output size is less than 12 inches then I can export but anything over a relatively small paper size refuses to process. Any suggestions?
  25. Not everything can be easily done with AD tools or can not be done at all. For example, try to draw what is shown at the picture below. There are simply limitations of graphical user interface and some patterns require a different approach. Luckily, Affinity Designer can open encapsulated postscript files. Encapsulated postscript allows you manual generation of high-quality graphics. It means that you write a program in Postscript language which subsequently is interpreted by AD. To do this, you should only have so-called programmers text editor. It can be Apple TextEdit, Wrangler or Textastic. There is a problem, though. Before you try to open EPS file in AD, you should check if your program contains no errors. Postscript and Encapsulated Postscript files are interpreted by GhostScript program which can be called from a command line in Terminal window. First, you have to check if you have Ghostscript installed. If not, then you have to install it. In Terminal enter command: gs -version When the command was not found then you can download the latest version of GhostScript from Richard Koch page (http://pages.uoregon.edu/koch/). Locate the GhostScript link with the highest version number and click on it. This will start the download of the GhostScript package installer. How the download actually happens is dependent on your browser and system setup. Once the installer has downloaded, open the folder it was downloaded to. Double click the PKG icon and follow the on-screen instructions. Accept the defaults if you don't know what to change. Once the install process has finished you can check if GhostScript is installed and ready for action by entering gs command again: bash-3.2$ gs -version GPL Ghostscript 9.16 (2015-03-30) Copyright © 2015 Artifex Software, Inc. All rights reserved. Now you can write simple EPS program and check it with GhostScript. Using text editor enter Truchet Pattern program and save it using eps as filename extension. The code for Truchet Pattern is from "A Short Introduction to PostScript" by Peter Fisher: (http://sus.ziti.uni-heidelberg.de/Lehre/Tools1213/PostScript_PeterFischer.pdf) %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0 %%BoundingBox: 0 0 592 842 %% File name: TruchetPattern.eps %%BeginProlog %%EndProlog 2.835 dup scale 5 4 translate 1 setlinecap 0 0 200 290 rectstroke 100 145 translate /W 10 def /W2 { W 2 div } bind def /DRAWUNIT { gsave translate rotate W2 neg W2 neg W2 0 90 arc stroke W2 W2 W2 180 270 arc stroke grestore } def -95 W 95 { /x exch def -140 W 140 { /y exch def rand 4 mod 90 mul x y DRAWUNIT } for } for showpage %%EOF In Terminal, go to directory where your EPS file was saved and open it with gs program: bash-3.2$ gs TruchetPattern.eps GPL Ghostscript 9.16 (2015-03-30) Copyright © 2015 Artifex Software, Inc.
