  1. Hey Affinity community! Over the last few days I've been tinkering with an alternative app icon for JOEY, an Android client for Reddit. I originally saw a post on Reddit where a user presented their attempt at an alternative symbol. I asked them if I could try my hand at it and refine it a bit and they agreed. These icons are the result and they were quite happy with the outcome. (Please click the preview for more details.) Any constructive criticism is welcome!
  2. I've been photographing wheels on traction engines, vintage trucks, and railway engines for more years than I can remember. I find it's very useful practice, not to mention good fun, to recreate them in Affinity Designer. I'm sure I posted City of Truro recently, but I can't find it here (I know I posted it on some of the Affinity FaceBook pages). Anyway, this is mainly made in vectors with a limited palette of flat colours and limited use of gradients.. The rivets are symbols, which is a handy way of making lots of identical things that might require later editing, and the lettering is text-on-a-path, with a lot of fiddling with tracking and baselines, and pure luck in finding close matches for fonts. These two wheels are from a showman's engine -- a steam traction engine highly decorated and adapted to provide electric power for a fairground ride. I think this particular one is The Iron Maiden, but I can't lay my hands on the original photos to be sure. (She was originally named Kitchener, but was renamed when she starred in the movie of the same name.) In the first one, the right-hand front wheel, I used gradients for shading and highlights, but in the second, the right-hand driving wheel, I used flat black or white shapes at 50% opacity clipped to the relevant areas. The egg-shaped structure behind the wheel is the cover for the drive train and differential gears. I used multiple outlines for the coloured lining. The rivets -- symbols again (although they needn't have been in this instance) -- are flat colour, and the highlights are separate symbols. each set of four is a Group, with the centre moved to the wheel's centre; this allowed me to use Power Duplicate to space them around the rim at precise intervals. (I did the same with the spokes.)
  3. Not sure if I need to do a bit more to it or not. Will see.
  4. This is my first completed artwork using Affinity - well 75% Affinity. I retired nearly 2 years ago and recently cancelled my Adobe Subscription so found Affinity to be the best affordable alternative. I have about 20 pictures of race cars that I work on when I feel like it and this is one that I have decided to finish. Not a well known Formula 1 car and this was it's only Grand Prix. The nosecone and a few other bits were designed using Adobe but the rest is Affinity Designer and Photo. My next illustration will be pure Affinity. I hope you like it.

  6. Created in Designer, applied the noise filter in Photo.
  7. Hi there! Years ago, when Windows Vista was about to be launched, Microsoft also launched installers for Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Media Player 11. They did some efforts to improve the UI of both programs. I was still using Windows XP and I have to say that I loved the WMP 11 Itnerface back then (I used Winamp mostly, to be honest but still...), so I searched for some Screenshots and tried to replicate the UI using Designer. I think I got really close to the original and it's a joy for me doing this kind of works. I'd like to know if anyone else liked this as well. Just in case anyone is interested, for some reason, I attached the AFDESIGN File (V1). I used Inter for the interface text and everything you see is Vector: Best regards! 8. Hello Affinity fellows! This is a car design I've done a while ago, using Affinity Designer 1.x. I'm pretty excited about version 2, lots of workarounds on the timelapse will be done easily on version 2. Hope you guys like the result ☺️ Thank you Affinity ❤️ P.S. If you like this kind of work, please, consider follow my YouTube channel 🙏, soon I’ll upload more content ☺️ Part 1 Part 2
  9. an alternative cigarette box which I created with affinity designer 2 🤣 eine alternative zigarettenschachtel die ich mit affinity designer 2 erstellt habe 🤣
  10. Here are some experiments, of varying quality, that I was playing around with at the weekend. Apart from some (modified) background images everything was done in Designer and Photo. They’re not what I would call ‘production ready’ but they’re okay as long as you don’t go looking for problems. (Any resemblance to real movies or organisations is purely accidental.)
  11. my last post. I’m posting on instagram (yuk) and twitter (2 followers so Elon will be getting worried!) if you can find me! Also in the private Facebook Affinity Designer group (the biggest one). Two quick ones. Did the astronaut then he had to have some transport. The rocket is a bit closer to futurist I guess. Rocket one needs a tweak or 10 but didn’t take too long.
  12. Based on a studio model used for one the Thunderbird comics. I changed the back wall to be head on, I thought it would look neater being a little more simple. Yeah I know the wings wouldn't normally be extended but they are as it looks better, perhaps it's being spring cleaned or something!
  13. One that's fairly local to me, I got rid of some bits like the ugly modern lamp post. I was going to add more people but most said not to, so I didn't.
  14. These were both done on Designer ipad version 1. I was studying metallic shine and reflection.
  15. I do mostly fliers for the local clubs around near where I live for advertising on local FB and Nextdoor groups. Non profit, just for my amusement and to help out. Improvements or Criticism's as always are most welcome
  16. Sea of Clouds is another series of cities, bridges, mountains that immersed in the sea of clouds, It starts with Chongqing's Caijia Jialing River Bridge. Yes, I do love Chongqing. It is a very charming city, also known as the mountain city, fog capital, and bridge capital. I draw several illustations of Chongqing before. I hope you will enjoy.

  18. Been a while since I just sat down with Affinity and let something happen more-or-less on its own. This is what came out this morning. I like her, she's sassy.
  19. New artwork: Fashion Forward Fanny As part of #lgbthistory month, I’ve created a new artwork inspired by the legendary Leigh Bowery. For those that don’t know, Leigh was an Australian performance artist and fashion/costume designer, whose dazzling, outrageous, and often disturbing looks were a permanent fixture on the club scene of early 1980’s London and New York. His work has inspired a vast range of artists and designers ever since, including (but certainly not limited to) Lady Gaga, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, and Boy George. He was also a muse for Lucien Freud, who created a famous series of full-length paintings of him, and in 2002 his life was celebrated in the West End and Broadway musical Taboo, in which he was played by his friend Boy George, who was also the creative force behind the show. Sadly, Leigh Bowery passed away in 1994, but his legacy is felt as strongly as ever, and is regularly referenced today in both fashion and drag culture at large. I’ve included a few photos of Leigh’s most iconic looks which directly inspired this piece (and you’ll also see I couldn’t resist including a picture of Leigh himself within the piece, watching Fanny do her chores…) Oh, and this is also the second in my “Domestic Goddess” series (drag queens doing the housework in ludicrously inappropriate apparel). Hope you like it (and please do check out more about Leigh Bowery!)

  22. Hello everyone. This is my first time sharing something on the forum. I've been using the affinity designer V2 since its launch and I'm very comfortable working with it. It has made my work process much easier, and right now I feel hooked on it. I just wanted to share some illustrations of this last month with you and show my work process in the video. The serie is not finished yet but you can get and idea of how it goes... Best regards
