  1. Hi, I'm new to Affinity, enjoying it a lot, still much to discover. Is there a shortcut to reset the black and white swatches? cheers Geoffrey
  2. Analogous chord created with missing color as the base color is duplicated. Steps: Create new document: Type: web Units: Pixels Color Format: RGB/8 W: 1280 px Height: 800 px DPI: 96 Draw a Rectangle (I made it a square) and fill with base color; then duplicate object 2 times. Base color: R: 200 G: 35 B: 35 / H: 0 S: 70 L: 46 From Swatches tab: Create palette from document > as application palette Under Swatches tab: Delete the 2 created fills From Color tab: Create Color Chord > Analogous Result: Created palette swatch: R: 200 G: 35 B: 35 / Shows as H: 0 S: 70 L: 46 2 (duplicated Base color, should be new color 1) R: 200 G: 118 B: 35 / Shows as H: 0 S: 70 L: 46 (Base color) R: 200 G: 35 B: 35 / Shows as H: 0 S: 70 L: 46 (new color 2) Reference: I was following this tutorial on YouTube: "Affinity Designer - Colour Chords" *Notes: possible regression as the person in video creates Analogues palette correctly (I don't know what version they used) I was able to create all of other 9 palette types correctly from this same video instructions. My version: 1.6.2.97 Attached: Two example files: Analogous.afdesign: Analogous2.afdesign:
  3. Why is it the set of colors different from the layers panel to the options bar?
  4. Hi Guys, I need your help. I haven’t seen a tutorial of how to make a swatch or import a swatch or what files are supported for that. What am I missing? Thanks in advance, Alex
  5. Hi guys, I have created a color gradient in a layer fx (see image) - now I want to copy that gradient somehow or ideally make it a swatch/global gradient. But I don't see how. Thanks in advance, Stefan.
  6. How to Reproduce: Create several dummy shapes Color the shapes and create swatches for some of those colors With the Swatches panel open, alternately select the shapes If the shape's fill/stroke color matches a swatch, the respective swatch appears selected in the Swatches Panel (this is good) If the shape's fill/stroke color doesn't match a swatch, the last swatch still appears selected (this is bad) How to Solve: When an object's fill/stroke color doesn't match a swatch, none of the swatches should appear selected
  7. I'd like to suggest a few improvements to the Swatches panel: Ability to convert swatches from and to normal/global/spot. For example, convert a normal swatch to global, or convert a spot to normal, and so on. Fills should automatically rename when colour is edited. For example, a fill named C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:10 should change to C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:50 if I do edit the colour to be a 50% black. Ability to group swatches into folders. Global colours names should be their values (for example C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:0) rather than "Global Colour %n" A command to select/delete all unused swatches. Perhaps create a document palette by default for any new document? A "Merge Swatches" command that works like in Illustrator Select multiple swatches at once to delete/copy them Global, overprint and spot colour indicators should be larger, they're hard to see when the swatch is selected (see attached) All these are to help us manage & identify the colours, plus correcting mistakes all designers make eventually. :P Thanks!
  8. Sort Swatches by Colour in the Swatches panel is good... But to be able to sort the swatches by Hue, Saturation or Lightness would be great and very useful. Is this possible? Please! :) :)
  9. Hi, I just noticed the following: I have several objects composited in a layer ... and I if I use my swatches in a layer fx (color overlay) to tint all objects at the same time I can choose my desired color swatch and it works fine. BUT if I change the color value of that swatch (double click on the swatch in the swatches panel) it does not influence the color used in the layer fx. If I check the color used on the layer fx, it still has the "old" values. I hope this will be fixed soon, Stefan.
  10. Hi Folks, I am new to Affinity Designer. I have 3 questions related to the swatches panel: Is there a way to resize the panel? A lot of space is wasted on swatches that only have a handful of colors. I accidentally deleted a couple swatches when I was playing around trying to remove colors from a particular swatch (note to self: "delete palette" does not mean "clear pallet"). They were default swatches. Is there a way to get them back? Is there a way to change the swatch color tooltip value from RGB to Hex (or anything else for that matter)? Thanks in advance! john
  11. I used this palette a lot so I decided to make an Afiinity version and share it if other people are interested Have fun with the color :) Original palette here DC Comics 375.afpalette
  12. There are a few things I wish would be possible with colors: - Ability to select and delete several colors at once from swatches - When one deletes a global color, the software should ask if one wants it to be replaced by another one.. so that all elements using the deleted color then become the new chosen replacement one (or at least tell the user that he's about to delete a color that is actually used in their graphic. Hope these can be implemented..
  13. Double click any swatch in the Swatches panel Switch to any of the sliders controls (RGB, CMYK, LAB, happens in all of them) if needed Place cursor on the first field (R for RGB or C for CMYK, etc...) in the flyout window Type a new number, works fine Tab to the second value (G or M, etc...), type new value, works fine Tab to the third value (B or Y, etc..), you can't type anymore I aso noticed the if you tab between like above, but without changing value, by the time you reach the third value the focus switches from the Swatches panel flyout to the application main menu at the top. Thanks!

  15. Unlike what happens when assigning a palette color to the filling of an object, if I assign a palette color to a colour overlay effect then I change the palette color, the objects with the assigned effect don’t change color. (Tested with Affinity Designer 1.6.0 on High Sierra)
  16. When I use the default white swatch or create one myself and save it, instead of H:0 S:100 L:100 (which appears as pure white), it saves as H:0 S:0 L:100 (which appears as off white). Step 1a: Click default white swatch or select H:0 S:100 L:100 on color wheel and save swatch. Step 1b: If user created swatch, select swatch user created. Step 2: Observe swatch is recalled as H:0 S:0 L:100 instead of H:0 S:100 L:100. PLS NOTE: HSL DATA IS SWAPPED ON THE PHOTO.

    Flatiful Color Palette

I wanted a base palette that I could use on my illustrations, with a range of shades, and highlights/shadows for each. So I made my own: It's a good starting point for illustrations, icons & UI work. There's more than 100 swatches, nicely organized. Comes in several formats, of course .afpalette included. Grab it over at CreativeMarket!
  19. Hi, somehow in between i just lost somehow all of my brushpresets, and most of my swatches but those of pantone.. This also happened somehow on another computer.. We use at the moment Affinity Photo 1.6.0.89. This looks like a bug, cant say the specific moment when it got lost.. in between the work later on i noticed something had changed, but cant put my finger on any special moment.. so how can i avoid this, and how can i get my palettes and brushes back ?
  20. Hi, So when it comes to colors, here´s a little suggestion what could be done to improve the workflow when you start your document and decide to use swatches and improve your colours. dont look at the design of my idea, rather look at the idea... When you creat colour chords, right now , you can select a colour and right click, select from some possibilitys like Complementary, Triadic and so on.. I would like a funktion to open a window like shown, get an optical representation inside of the color wheel and adjust my colors by just rotaiting in this example my colors, to change them, than just move some triangles or points, to adjust the amount of the color split, and than just klick load them to my palette.. only maybe, could it be possible for the program, to use my underlaying actual image, and interactive while rotating, moving and adjusting my Color Chord , somehow change interactive also the most corresponding olors of the opend image ? not sure how this could be possible.. but the first part, just creating color chords this way, as it is allready possible in many video edditing programs, would be an improvement.. maybe put it to your whishlists.. greetings
  21. Hi everyone, i was asked how to use the swatches pannel. i didnt use it untill now. So does there exist any nice videotutorial , to learn it faster but to read the help files ? thanks
  22. Hello, I've switch from the Beta to AD 1.5.5 and I've just noticed a bug when modifying color swatches. I've made a video so that you'll have all the informations (watch the swatches panel, the color disappears when modified). Here is the link: https://cloudup.com/cauCnm65n5G
  23. I'm working in AD 1.6. As before, I can chose the option I want in the Swatches pane under Appearance and the change remains. However, when I click "Fill" or "Stroke" in the Context Toolbar, the default is "Color" and there does not appear to be a way to change that. Thus, if I want "Swatches" in the Context Toolbar (in "Fill" or "Stroke"), I must each time go through the same process. It would really be nice to change this default to "Swatches" or some other option and have it remain so when I go there again, and when I bring up the doc again.
  24. Hi, TL:DR Set Fill / Paint / font colour change crashes the program when applied to a block image e.g. not a font. Attempts to paint the entire A4 page but takes 15 minutes perhaps more. Why does it take so long to paint a page. Why did it paint a page when it was only a small portion that was selected. Improve logic to prevent this? Hardware i5 2500K overclocked to 4.1gHz, 8GB RAM, 128GB ssd, Intel onboard Graphic 3000, 4TB ssd/plater HD, AMD 5770 1GB video card Creating another master piece and was just changing the colours of the fonts. I then clicked on a block of graphic image and clicked on that to change its colour. Once I did this the computer started to play up with the mouse becoming erratic e.g. not moving smoothly. This got worse to the point I had no response from my computer. After a minute approx I could get taskmanager to start and I could see that Affinity Photo was reporting it is "not responding" At first it was using 1% cpu and 1.5 GB of memory Being patient I waited perhaps another 5 minutes perhaps 10 and noticed that the program came back sort of. I checked taskmanager again and found that cpu use had risen to ~32% and 4.5GB of memory with 0.3% of disk activity. The entire Affinity Photo program screen had a transparent grey all over the entire screen. Normally when I see a program in this state I would conclude it had crashed. I waited some more and found the program returned to a functioning state however my entire image had be painted the font colour. At first I didn't realise it had done this but as I clicked on the image I noticed handles responded. I saved the file "which had ballooned from 2MB to 27MB" in this state and restarted the program and found the entire image was still completely painted in the font colour. I used the undo feature and managed to get the image back to where I wanted it. I then attempted to change the colour again of the block image and guess what it did exactly the same thing and "crashed" I took screen shots including the taskmanager if your interested. The saved files seemed excessively large as for an A4 size page. It is a very basic image with text a certificate of a swimming milestone for ABI swimmers. Thought I would have had this done and dusted in say an hour or so but I have spent a considerable amount of time on it due to the "crashes" and writing in this forum. Images blurred for privacy reasons.
  25. When I edit the CMYK values of the fill of a palette colour, AD actually deletes one colour from the palette for each value I edit. That was not expected. See this screen capture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g8z69xqu0fh9yve/color_palette_edit.m4v?dl=0 In that case, 2 values were edited and 2 colours vanished from the palette. If I edit all 4 values, 4 colours are gone. The way all the colours vanishes in the background when editing is also unexpected (temporarily, though - a little scrolling does restore the ones that have not been deleted). AD 1.5.5 macOS 10.12.5
