  1. Couldn't find an answer through my search for this - I'm sending a book cover design over to a publisher and have some issues (apparently) Book: 5.25"x8" Margin: 0.25" Bleed: 0.125" Create Artboard: Demensions: 11"x8.25" Guides: 0.375 (TBLR) (No option to create Bleeds) Setup Bleed in Document Settings: 0.125" (TBLR) Export: Include Bleed Include Printer Markers Trim Markers show up at edges not Bleed Positions. Can you guys Help? Attached is a screenshot of the PDF after export - (the Red and Yellow are just Overlays I made Red=Bleed Yellow equals Margin) TIA
  2. I have imported a PDF file to my art board but the text in that PDF file does not display. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.
  3. Hi. I've created some icons in a separate Affinity file which I have simply copy pasted into an artwork file which is to be exported as a PDF. These icons are being rasterised on export, which is a problem. I understand that this is likely a limitation of the PDF format - not handling some of the techniques used to create the icons, but is there a way I can 'flatten' the icons without losing fidelity? This is the first piece of actual work I've attempted in Affinity and aside from this issue I'm loving it. Thanks.
  4. * Standard Disclaimer/Apology if this is a 'Me Too' request * I work with plan and design based PDFs and I use AD to manipulate objects within the PDF file. Sometimes I get A1 or A0 size designs spread across multiple A4 pages in a single PDF file and I would like AD to automate laying them out in a grid within a single page of a document. For example, 10 page PDF in A4 format making up a design 5 pages wide by 2 pages tall. Each page has a 10mm border all round. I want to be able to tell AD that the layout is 5 x 2 with a 10mm overlap and hey presto! its done. (I could imagine the same functionality being useful for a folder full of photos) Mark
  5. Hello! I'm amazed with Affinity on Windows and I'm using it more and more over the Illustrator. One thing makes me wonder for now - is it possible to export artboards as PDF with multiple pages? Tried with preset for print etc., tried with printing to file and nothing worked.
  6. Hello community! How can I place a specific page of a PDF into Affinty Designer? If I place it with File>Place I can’t find import options. The only way I found, is opening the embedded file and deleting all other Artboards, which is a real pain in the *** and half of the time it didn’t work. I would also appreciate to place all pages or a range of pages. thanks for your answers :)
  7. Every time I open a pdf generated by matplotlib, Affinity Designer asks me to replace fonts, then thing look different. I tried following the instructions here to use True Type fonts, but it doesn't fix the problem. Attached file was generated with fonttype=42, and it still tries to replace the fonts. difference_normalized_absorption_moving_avg_font42.pdf
  8. I'm experiencing some issues with exported PDFs and display of fonts in AD 1.5.0.19 When I export the document with the WEB setting, fonts are rasterised when in groups where layer FX is applied to ANY object within the group. (See attached Leaflet for WEB) If I select the PRINT profile, occasionally fonts disappear entirely, also (I think) related to being grouped with other layers. (See attached Leaflet for PRINT) I've also attached the original file for you to look at. I removed raster images from the file to make it quicker to upload, otherwise it was 35MB! 9. Hi I am wanting to creating a PDF downloadable walking tour and map and would like to know if it is possible to create a PDF with a vertical as well as a horizontal swipe. eg. At the moment I have 10 pages that swipe from left to right which is great, but having to constantly move back to the page with the map on it is a pain, even with a link on each page to get you back to it. What I am really wanting is to have the 10 pages that exist in a left to right line to also have a map below each page - so in practice wherever the user is on the original ten page horizontal 'timeline' they can swipe up and see the map, because there is the same map repeated in the 10 pages below the original ten pages - I hope this makes sense. My question is can this be done using Affinity to design the pages and then exported as a PDF or do I need to,consider some other software' if I do what? Many thanks in advance for any help on this.
  10. Hi, I came across a strange mistake. I'll start from the beginning. I'm working on a brochure, with bend in the middle , so I started doing it in final form (that how it's should look like). I thought that i can join it through the export persona and converted to pdf and with bleeds and crop marks like here ( ). However, when i combine the two artboards, the bleed disappear after export. So I decided to dived the pages manually by the squares and then reoorder the pages for the finall print. But when i copy the pages each half has a different color. When I give duplicate, so it will not. I do not know if it's a bug in the program or just an incorrect settings or using affinity. Thanks for the reply. I hope this is not too confusing post :) PS: look at the attached file. It's quire obvious that each half has different color.
  11. Is it possible to select a specific page when I place a pdf in AD? Now I got no dialogue box and all the pages are grouped in one big layer. Thanks !
  12. Hi, Recently had the bleed go missing on export to PDF. Had to recreate the artboards, in once instance on a new file for them to be exported. Just to clarify; bleed was selected on the Document Startup and the PDF export. I've attached a stripped down version of the file and the PDF I was getting (with crop marks but no bleed). Anyone else reported this? Not fun when I've got work on deadline! Any ideas? Carl MISSING BLEED.afdesign MISSING BLEED.pdf
  13. I am trying to export some business cards. I have multiple fronts (different names), and one common back. I am able to export one of the fronts as it appears in the workflow, but all the rest of the fronts and backs comes out almost 50% opaque passthrough (or something similar). What am I doing wrong? I have tried checking that all effects are off, and that all layers are grouped with opacity on 100% and normal. I have also opened each file on its own instead of exporting as all of the fronts of the cards together. Any hints? I have attached the one file of the card that is good, and the other that is faded... Business Card - Betsy Front.pdf Business Card - Jared Front.pdf
  14. Hello, I am trying to open a PDF as currently cropped and saved as a raster directly through Photo or Designer, but it doesn't seem to provide that option with the open dialog options, am I missing something? Thank you
  15. Hi, I am new to this forum and would like to ask if there is anyone who can help me with my question regarding exporting my Affinity Designer file into a PDF. When I go to "export" and select PDF, Affinity Designer will let me export the file into PDF, no problem there. However, the PDF layout looks different from the layout as I created it in the original Affinity Designer file. The page sequence of the PDF just does not match my original page order. So, for example, what used to be page 15 in my original Affinity Designer file is now page 11 in my PDF version. It's not that all the pages are taken out of their regular sequence, so the first ten pages or so are fine but then there is this page number mix-up towards the end of the PDF. I would very much appreciate if I could get some comments on this topic and hopefully I can find a way to fix it as I created my job application on Affinity Designer but will need to send it via email as PDF today or tomorrow the latest. Thanks for your help!! Regards, Thorsbot77
  16. Hi, I have some publication figures I need to export without loss of resolution. They *should* be entirely vector graphics, but are nevertheless getting rasterized and appear pixelated. The files are composed of 3-4 PDFs (generated in R and fully vector) plus panel letters (e.g. A-D) added in Affinity Designer. In Affinity Designer I can zoom in all the way and still see crisp text and line art. However, upon exporting as PDF, EPS, or SVG no matter what settings are use I get pixelation, even if I set a very high DPI (say 1000) or do not set DPI with the intention of the image remaining fully vector graphic. I am confused because *all* the elements in these files are fully vector graphics, but nonetheless I get loss of resolution upon exporting from Affinity Designer. I'm attaching an example file to this message. Please help!! ...I need to submit high resolution versions of these images to the journal ASAP. Thanks!! Dan. Figure3.afdesign
  17. I am getting some funky looking pdf outputs. It only seems to appear when special effects have been used. It appears AD is bit mapping the area, understandably, but not doing a very good job of it. Thoughts?
  18. Hello, I'm using affinity designer for an album sleeve, that I'm, making into a digital booklet. I was following the artboard tutorial to deconstruct panels of the template into pages of a .pdf, and it went well until export. I didn't actually find anything on the order the pages come out as though, and they're exporting in reverse order. I've tried different layouts across the artboard space and changing the order layers sit in, in their window. It's still coming out as before. How do I change the page order of my pdf document before export?
  19. When I tred to open the attached pdf AD locked up and froze. I had to use the task manager for force close it. The pdf was created in Xara Designer Pro 365 crose.pdf
  20. Hello, I can't export a file as PDF, I get a dialog box with this : "An error occurred while exporting to: <file path>" It allows me to export some files but not others.....they are nearly identical. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
  21. I've updated the lasted version of Affinity today (ver 1.5.0.7), this version can't export *.afdesign files to *.pdf files. But the older version can be. I don't know why, please check it. Here are my files: http://www.mediafire.com/download/96qzqsb8p22r76s/Logo.rar
  22. Hey guys, I'm having an issue getting AD to properly export a radial transparency mask using the Transparency tool applied to a group of vector objects which have a vector brush outline set in different colors. Notice how the radial transparency in the background art doesn't output correctly to PDF. Included are the export settings, I've tried several. Any ideas? Correct: Incorrect: PDF Export settings:
  23. When exporting a file as PDF, I can reliably cause Affinity to crash. With the document open: Select Export from the File menu Select the PDF tab Preset: Select PDF (for web) Raster DPI: Select 300 (or anything above 72) (this causes the 'Preset' to go blank) Select the 'More' button Enter '150' in the 'Downsample images' 'Above DPI' Select the 'Close' button Affinity will crash as soon as you hit the 'Close' button. "An Unhandled Exception has occurred. Code: 0xE0434352"
  24. I can reproduciple kill v1.5.0.7 when I open multiple PDF files (2 are enough) quickly. Edit: Even if I do it slowly it seems to crash all the time. Reproduce: simply use the menu --> file --> Open --> select PDF-1 confirm default options with OK quick do the same again for PDF-2 pdf-sample-1.pdf pdf-sample-2.pdf pdf-sample-3.pdf
  25. Hi All, When i create trim marks with the standard 3mm bleed and take the pdf into Indesign to layout for print, I find that that trim marks don't show on "import bleed" settings. They're on the pdf but are too far away in the make-up of the pdf to show on a 3mm bleed import - the actual trim marks are 3.3mm and 3.3mmm (x, y) when measured from the Doc boundaries. So, you're left with trim marks when you impose a 20-up business card spread - quite important when you put the sheets under the guillotine. I don't want to go back to the days of ruling up a job. When a job is sent out to print, you'll find that printers generally ask for trim marks and 3mm bleed as standard Am I doing something wrong in my original pdf set-up? Thanks in advance for any feedback Frustrated printer Vernon
