I opened AD today and everything was where it always is. I switched over to Pixel Persona to work on some art and my Persona Toolbar vanished. I have to go into the AD dropdown menu to switch back to Draw Persona but the toolbar still does not appear. It's just a grey or black blank bar. I have restarted the program, updated it and even uninstalled it to reinstall it and the same thing keeps happening. Any help would be appreciated. -

Hi guys, first of all a big Thank you - I am a huge fan of Affinity Design and use it for all my projects. In general the usability is great and it is a pleasure to work with. But there is this tiny detail that has bitten me so many times that I at least wanted you to know :) The thing is: AD obviously remembers the last directory that I have saved or exported to. In general this is very helpful because when saving or exporting repeatedly from the same file, it is very likely that I intend to do that into the same directory. BUT... I often start my work by opening a recent file and saving this under a new name (e.g. "mydesign_02"...). And when I do, I usually want this copy to go into the same directory as the original file, not some other projects export folder from yesterday. I cannot count how many times I have done "Save as", then worked in the copy, then closed AD, only to notice that the file is not, in fact, in the same folder as the original. So I have to start AD again, open some file, select "Save as" and check which folder it is saving to, then find my copy and move it to its intended location. Pretty annoying :) I assume that this is not very easily fixed, but I still wanted to let you know :) I have a feeling that these kinds of usability details are exactly what you're trying to get right, so maybe you will come up with something smart ;) Thanks again, best, Ole. -
No, I didn't do a Designer rainy Saturday design. This is the Designer design I did on a rainy Saturday. :lol: The goal was to experiment with resources including Enrique's Frankentoon fab Pattern Painter Brushes (USD$6 same as free in my book) and the Awesome Gradient Set provided by cjclip (USD$0 absolute free), @ https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/23960-awesome-gradient-palette-for-affinity-designer/ Hey, one of the many things I learned in this experiment: The incredible tip to CTL-C one vector and CTL-SHIFT-V it to another to pass along the properties... WORKS ON TEXT TOO! Cool! (I'll let you Apple people decipher the COMMAND key codes :P ). @Alfred 'cause you can't resist asking: I didn't add the iso automobiles because I didn't get the STOP/ALTO signs vectored yet and did't want to cause a crash! :P

This might be a silly question but, I noticed there's no such thing as 'Pattern Swatch' in Affinity Designer. I see that you can only save 'color' or 'gradient' swatches. Or am I wrong? I know that you can use bitmap as fill, but when I try to use a (halftone) pattern that I created, the filled image is blurry, not razor sharp. I'm still learning to use 'Affinity Designer' and so far I love it. I hope there's a way to go about creating a pattern swatch. Thanks! - Maya -

I'm not sure if it has been requested yet but it would be great to be able to convert Artistic text to Frame text because the text content doesn't always stays the same and for example, when you want to change a title to a paragraph at the moment you're force to create a new object (Frame text) and overlay it on the same pre-existing Artistic text. It just takes a lot of time if you need to repeat this action several times. And then again, if you need to change it back you have to start over replacing paragraphs with Artistic text. -
Are there any updates on the Trace Tool? I found some info about it in a 2014 post that it was coming to affinity designer. But I think it isn't yet in the application. Any updates on a release or a test version?

Hear me out.. Why not let AD do the work for you.. So instead of the user having to find layers and groups by scrolling, it should just jump right to the selected object/group in the Layer PaneI. I mean AD highlights selected, but it could just as well jump to it. I would LOVE to see this added :wub:- 14 replies

Hi, The guides manager is a great addition to Affinity Designer as it is easy to manage, modify and have informations on all guides. A useful feature that is actually absent would be the possibility to group and name the guides, and selectively show these guides. Thank you, Keep the good work!

Hey everyone, it's been a while, but last week I've been working on and off on a Nissan Sunny B121 design. I had a lot of fun, so I thought I'd show it to you: I started off from a photo I got off of wikipedia. After vectorizing the main shape of the car, I decided to modify the design. I've been playing a lot of Auto Modellista (if you don't know the game and are into cars - check it out, it's a classic for the PS2) lately, so I decided to leave the car more cartoony and cell-shaded, instead of going for fully detailed design. This is what I'm trying to do. 1. Draw a shape 2. Rotate it 3. Cmd + J: Duplicate it 4. Copy the duplicated shape and move it to a different position Here, I see that the duplicated shape keeps the rotation value (please see the attached images). My question is, how can I keep the duplicate (rotated shape) and reset the rotation value of it to '0', still keeping the rotation? Because I noticed that the duplicate still maintains the rotation value, and when I set it to '0' the shape loses its rotation. Hope what I'm saying makes sense and I'm not neglecting something very obvious. :P Thanks! - Maya

Hello, I have simple poster design with a image background which has Transparency applied to it using the transparency tool. when I try to export it as PDF for print the transparency is gone from the background image. If I rasterise the image and then try to export, then the export process freezes. Please guide me to resolve this problem. Document size - 5x7.5ft Couldn't upload the file here. File size is 90mb. Hi - I've got AD (ver 1.5.5) on a macbook pro and am trying to create a compound object using the geometry tools and holding down the option key while selecting the objects. It works using the Shift key (to do destructive changes) but not when I use the option key to create a compound object. I can hold OPT key down and select top layer, but when I try to select the lower layer, it just selects the lower layer and doesn't keep the top layer selected. Anybody have an idea how to fix this ?? Thanks in advance, your help is greatly appreciated. :-) Jen
