  1. Ever since the latest update I've been experiencing a notable increase in strange, brief, intermittent glitches on my iMac monitor when quitting Affinity apps. I don't experience it much when working in the apps (sometimes when merging layers), but it's definitely most notable a few seconds after I quit the apps. It seems somehow worsened when I have a browser window open (Google Chrome, Safari, or Brave). I've also experienced some screen flickers in-app when developing RAW images in Photo, especially any format other than DNG (such as the Nikon NEF format), or when working with larger files. I'm running a dual monitor setup (iMac and a graphics drawing tablet as my second monitor), and the latest version of MacOS (Mojave Version 10.14.6). It's difficult to explain, but it looks similar to glitches experiencing with failing graphics cards, but they only flash/flicker once and then disappear until I quit the apps again, where a failed graphics card would show a permanent glitched display. I initially thought this was a graphics card issue on my side (I've dealt with that before), but after some research I found that this is a known issue between certain apps and the newer MacOS. Here's an article stating that this is is well an issue that is fairly widespread, and can be caused when running certain apps: https://pdf.wondershare.com/macos-10-14/fix-screen-flickers-on-macos-10-14.html I've tried all the steps mentioned to help eliminate the flickering (SMC reset, NVRam reset, booted in Safe Mode, and even ran First Aid on my hard drive to try and iron out any possible system bugs). I have no idea what's causing this, but it's a bit worrying. I'm scared that I'm maxing out my graphics card, or somehow putting too much strain on it when quitting the apps or something. I've even set my Display to "GPU (Basic)", the Retina Rendering to "Low Quality", and disabled "Metal Compute Acceleration" in the Affinity preferences, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I've posted in Affinity groups on Facebook and have received confirmation from a few other users/people that they are also experiencing this when using Affinity. I just want to raise awareness of this issue by posting on here, and hopefully push for a possible fix.
  2. Hi, Affinity Team. I have a suggestion for a program of Affinity series. A program of Animation frame by frame. I'd love to that idea. I hope you like! Yours sincerely, Lucas.
  3. I started a thread in feedback on font organization but now honestly this issue has turned into a bug or a glitch and wanted to address it here. My original request/complaint was that Affinity Publisher (or any Affinity product) could handle font organization better, grouping the widths together as a condensed/normal/extended format. Adobe does it this way and it works well. Now however, I sent feedback to a font foundry because I thought they had mislabeled SemiExpanded to be wider that Expanded. They told me it was the case with my software not their font. I looked again and realized they were correct and want to share a screen grab from Affinity and another from Photoshop to compare. Please see how the weights and widths organization is messy but the optical illusions of the widths. It seems the word length is squeezing down the sizes as well. Since Affinity Publisher is a master layout assembly tool especially where typography plays a critical role, and where many designers use thousands of fonts and many superfamilies that are extremely difficult to navigate through in the current font organization scheme, I ask for the fonts to be displayed as they are with Adobe. This would help tremendously. I love Affinity products but this is issue a thing to deal with.

  5. I've brought this up a few times on the forums, but (and I'm getting desperate here) pleeeease add Dissolve to the Blend Modes list for layers and brushes - pretty pretty please! The tedious workarounds to achieve this effect simply aren't the same, and not nearly as effective. Dissolve is the easiest way to turn any, otherwise normal, brush into an amazing textural experience, and was one of the most used features for me in Photoshop. Dissolve played such a big role in my work that I've had to adapt my style completely after switching to Affinity, and I miss it dearly. I even took the time to record this little screen recording I'm working on to show why it works so well in Photoshop (just watch at 2x speed to save time): https://youtu.be/pywfxxuXaCc All I used in the video was a plain old, run-of-the-mill soft/feathered brush, but with Dissolve set as the blend mode. As you can see, it instantly becomes a magnificent texturing machine which has SO many practical applications, especially in creating digital illustrations. I've also seen it used excessively by some really big names in the creative industry, such as Matt Taylor (http://www.matttaylor.co.uk) and Studio Muti (https://studiomuti.co.za), just to name two heavy-hitters. I can't imagine it being very difficult to add another blend mode to the list, and I've been checking for new beta's daily hoping that dissolve made the list of added features. Please add it, for me, for others, and even for this poor, misunderstood zombie dude who would have been lacking a lot of gritty shading if I had painted him in Affinity without dissolve.
  6. I am trying to upload some newly purchased Luts into my Affinity photo software but for the life of me I can not find the folder for the pre-existing luts with the program to add on to them. I've searched every folder relating to the program on my computer but there is nothing there that dictates the pre-existing luts so I can add more to them. I.e. presets. Let me know if I'm searching in all the wrong places or if affinity is just that unorganized with their files and felt like sending people on great journeys.
  7. Following an AP tutorial I have created my own swatches. I use 5 colours palette that to my judgment correspond well to what i see in the original (template) image. If this is not a case, the 5 colour palette by AP is incorrect, I create a swatch again with a higher number of colors and make my selection to limit them to again 5. When color grading with 5 colours I add 5 colours from the swatch palette very carefully by ensuring that the Location value on color grading scale matches the Lightness (L) value of the color an indicated in a window for color picker. When I copy the colour palette from the swatch and apply it to my own image the result is different as regards tonality. Some additional adjustments are needed to match my image with the template. However, it is almost never the same. Is it what correct? Using swatches for color grading does not guarantee that the image that is edited will match the template and there might be differences?
  8. Hello, I found very frustrating problem in publisher ;/ What I did and what happend? I am creating a photo album with pictures. Each photo is placed in picture frame and under that, I placed a black rectangle with white stroke (to give a photo nice, white frame). When exporting to .tiff everythings fine. But I need to export it to pdf (I usually choose pdf x1). The white stroke disappears (even in basic preview in acrobat pro). When I choose pdf preset to "pdf for print", the white stroke appears, but when I open that file on proofing printer software/ print on digital printer/ offset printer (just prepress software or even desktop printer), the white dissapears. As I remember in beta I had a problem when I placed white text over photos in pdf (tiff was fine) (it disappeared in the same way). I'm attaching every steps described above + .afpub file. Are you working on that? white_problem.afpub
  9. When using the brush tool in Affinity apps I always get very odd brush size increments when using the square bracket ( [ ] ) keys to change the brush size. If I use a 10px brush and use "]" to size it up one increment, it doesn't go to the expected 15px, but rather to 11,5 px. And then, if I press the "[" key to size the brush back down to 10px from 11,5px, it randomly ends up at 9,8px (?). Pressing "]" three times from 9px results in 9px, 10,4px, 11,9px, and 13,7px, instead of the expected 9px, 10px, 15px, and 20px values. I find this a bit strange, as I feel that decimal pixel values for brush sizes make little to no difference, and it's just generally odd that using the square brackets to change brush sizes doesn't just use rounded increments - I hate mentioning Photoshop as a reference example, but if if ain't broke... For instance, using the brackets between the values 1px and 10px should only change the brush size in increments of 1px (1,2,3,4,5px...), anything between 10px and 50px should change in increments of 5px (10, 15, 20, 25, 30px...), anything between 50px and 100px should change in increments of 10px (50, 60, 70, 80, 90px...), anything between 100px and 200px should change in increments of 25px (100, 125, 150, 200px), then 50px, and anything above 300px should change in increments of 100px every time you press the square bracket(s). Is there a significance to these weird, decimal pixel increment values? If so, is there a way to change it back to something more normal/user friendly?

    Brush Editing Freeze

I've been experiencing a number of app freezes on my iMac while creating a custom brush for a project this morning. Creating a new brush is easy, but as soon as I start changing the values of the "Size" and/or "Spacing" (although I haven't even tried changing other options) in the brush editor, I get the spinning rainbow wheel. I hoped that the app was just processing the request to change those values (and taking a bit longer than usual), but it ultimately froze up completely, resulting in me having to Force Quit Photo. Upon reopening, I tried it again, and the same thing happened over and over again. All I created was a standard Round brush, and when trying to change the values in the brush editor, I experienced app freezes every time, without fail. Entering the value is not an issue, but pressing 'tab' to enter the next value section, or simply clicking in the next box with my mouse results in a total freeze.
  12. I would love it if you would create a Video Editing Software like premier (but better obviously) As a college student I have two choices pay the expensive price of £16 a month for Adobe's okay software or get it offline illegally and unsafe. I have already Purchased Affinity Photo, am about to Purchase Affinity Designer but would absolutely love it if there was a affinity video editor for my media. I know this might not be your kinda thing but it would be so great and I know so many people would rather use this than adobe. You're ahead of them, keep it up.
  13. Hi folks, I’m new to AF for iPad having used AF desktop for a while now. I'm having some issues with certain adjustments. I wanted to make a curves adjustment on an image today but when I went to the adjustments menu and selected curves it didn’t give me any further options. There is no context menu or anything ?! Cheers Mark
  14. My brush (default brush) doesnt blend with itself, if I use the brush outside the radius of a previous stroke it acts as if there was a wall preventing it from layering over (figure 1). If I stay within the border of the previous stroke, it keeps the "ink" from going past its edge/border (figure 2). Is there a way to turn this off, its extremely irritating because I have to make a new layer for each stroke to bypass this. Help!
  15. Hello, i have been playing a lot with grid manager lately. but i couldn't figure out, if i create a simple grid, how can i keep only one directional lines. here i am NOT talking about dividing the complete art board into "some number" of rows and column. i want unidirectional lines "either horizontal or vertical" with a provided space "custom space, lets say 88px" is there any way to achieve it right now? if not, any workaround or feature request would be greatly appreciated how can i create lines like in this pic ...
  16. Aside from having the ability to change your brush view in the Brushes panel from a list to a grid/icons, it would be really nice to be able to rearrange the brush categories. Every time new brushes are added, they are added in a new category at the bottom of the category list, but that category then can't be moved up or down. This removes the ability to (for example) move all of my inking brush categories closer together and all of my painting brush categories together, to keep things tidy and organised. Basically, in the same way you can move brushes up and down in the category list, it would be great to be able to do this with the brush categories themselves too. Not a big deal, but it would be a handy little addition to the brushes panel that would be nice to see in a future update - I also can't imagine it being very difficult to implement something like this.
  17. A few feature ideas/suggestions/requests that would be awesome, inspired by other apps - basically a wishlist for Designer & Photo as an illustrator. Here they are, in no specific order: Quick shapes, like Procreate - I can't explain the amount of time this saves. Essentially incorporating rulers into your pen so that you don't have to create a vector shape every time you want to draw one. Quick shapes really speed up the drawing process and eliminate the need to create vector shapes every time you need a geometric shape drawn out. Special Rulers, like Sketchbook Pro, and Clip Studio Paint, - drafting rulers like french curves, elliptical rulers, perspective rulers, etc. You can place and move a floating, transparent ruler on the canvas and your pen will automatically snap to it. Lasso Fill, like Clip Studio Paint - being able to toggle 'auto foreground/background colour fill' when using the Lasso/Freehand Selection Tool. That way you don't have to make a selection, select the Flood Fill Tool, and click to fill every time, the selection automatically fills with a colour. Dissolve Blend Mode, like Photoshop - great for comic art, gritty textures, and removing anti-aliasing to make artwork easier to set up for screen-printing purposes. A pro level colour wheel with colour theory options integrated, like Coolorus - one of the things I miss most about using Photoshop. Coolorus is a PS plugin that is far more sophisticated than the standard colour wheel and is used religiously by artists working for the likes of Disney. A Rotation Tool, like Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, and Sketchbook Pro. A big time saver. PS and CSP have dedicated tools for this, and Sketchbook Pro gives you a rotation pop-up window when you move using the space bar. Much better than having to select "Rotate Left/Right" every time, or pressing a keyboard shortcut, which also only rotates a few degrees at a time. External Floating View Windows, like Photoshop. Being able to save a second view of your artboard is already available in Affinity, but you're not able to remove it from the app window. It's great to have the second, zoomed out, view on a second monitor so that you can see how your artwork and design is looking in full while you're working on it in another window. Alternate brush views/display, like most creative software - having the ability to view your brushes panel in different ways, like brush icons, of lists with titles (like the Affinity iPad apps). I feel like these types of features will really open the market up to the likes of illustrators who prefer raster tools, as well as digital painters, concept artists, and comic book artists a lot more. Similarly it will also attract more 'influencer' type artists, as online audiences absolutely love seeing timelapse videos of the process - I know people who prefer painting in Photo and Designer, but use Procreate purely because of its timelapse feature to bring their audiences into their creation process. Affinity has really established itself so well with graphic designers, vector illustrators, and photo retouchers and editors already. There are of course people who love using Affinity software for digital painting, myself included, but there are also many who still prefer other software due to the lack of the aforementioned features. I've read about this on the forums, and elsewhere on the web, and also heard the same echoed by other creatives/digital artists/illustrators I've spoken to about Affinity. I feel that these features will open up a whole new market, and a whole new world for Affinity and users alike. Just some food for thought. Apologies for the lengthy post!
  18. I cannot figure out how to COMPLETELY turn snapping of for the Polygonal Lasso tool. It's difficult to describe so I've included images. Basically, if I turn all snapping off in Photoshop I can Lasso select between pixels which is truly free selecting. When I try this in Affinity Photo it snaps by pixel, there is no "between the pixels". Please refer to the images to see what I'm trying to say. I need Affinity to stop snapping to pixels and let me select the way Photoshop does.
  19. I just received my hardback copy of the Affinity Designer Workbook. It looks great. At the start of each chapter is the "Resource" box with a filename in it. Where are these files to be found!? The book says, I see green box with the filename in it... but no link info. I tried tapping on it with my finger, but nothing happened. :)
  20. When using a raster brush that has 'wet edges' enabled, it often automatically disables the wet edges when you switch to another tool (like the eraser) and then back to the brush again. It's not a big issue, but it would be really great if the brushes retained the wet edges setting to save the hassle of manually checking it again after using another tool. For some reason this doesn't always happen, but I thought it might be worth mentioning as a lot of the more 'intricate' custom brushes use wet edges for textures and effects. Similarly, and I appologise as I've mentioned this before, it would be awesome to have a dissolve blend mode for brushes and layers as it's incredibly useful for creating gritty textures and bitmap effects - it's also especially useful for setting work up for screen printing as the dissolve blend mode removes all anti-aliasing. I know there are workarounds for this, but the dissolve blend mode is a small addition to the blend modes list that would completely remove the need to spend time finding different ways of achieving a similar effect. I've seen it mentioned a few times in the forums, so hopefully it will be considered.
  21. A lot of users, myself included, often create custom brushes and assets to use with Affinity Apps. With the release of Affinity Publisher (especially with StudioLink) I find it quite tedious to install the newly created brushes and assets individually into every app since I do switch between them quite regularly and need all my tools available. It would be really nice that when you install/delete assets and brushes in any one of the Affinity apps that they are automatically loaded/available/updated in the other apps. Example scenario: As an illustrator, I often create new custom brushes for projects. If I created a custom raster brush in Photo, but then needed to switch to Designer for vector work, I'd need to open Photo, save the brush, open Designer and then load the new brush in the Pixel Persona. Then when I switch to Publisher for layout, I would need to switch to the Photo Persona via StudioLink and reload the brush there too if I wanted to do a few finishing touch-ups. If I then made a few small tweaks to the brush, perhaps some small improvements (such as tweaking the pressure curve for the size jitter), I would need to repeat the entire process all over again. The same goes for Assets, and more. It can quickly become very time consuming. It would be incredibly useful to have a universal folder where the brushes/assets are stored so that they automatically update across the board when you customise or add them. Obviously this wouldn't be applicable on iPad, but I think it would be incredibly innovative and useful on desktop, and a huge time saver in anyone's workflow. That way you'd only need to load, say, a raster brush once in Photo, and then automatically have it available in Designer's Pixel Persona and Publisher's Photo Persona. Same goes for vector brushes, assets, macros, swatches, styles, etc.
  22. Hi, I'm new to the Affinity family of products, having bought Affinity Photo. Is it possible to get a poster but only with the standard size of paper in my printer with any of Affinity's programs? In Corel Draw: I was able to stitch the tiles together after printing, to make the poster. Which of your programs is closest to the overall functionality of Corel Draw? I'd like to switch over to Affinity. Is there a way to see a comparison of all three programs, as they seam to have overlapping features? I'd like to see especially what makes Designer and Publisher unique from each other (differences) but also Photo.
  23. Hey everyone! Please consider including saving and loading the studio layout to and from file (windows, toolbar content, tools position and content) for Designer, Photo and Publisher. This would speed up things when - using the software on multiple Macs - having the layout set back by an update (e.g. 1.7) - going from a beta version to the store version It took me about 45 minutes to setup the UI for Affinity Publisher, including Designer and Photo persona, on two Macs. Also, I think the Designer and Photo personas of Publisher should read the UI layout of Designer and Photo. Best wishes, Shu
  24. Not a bug per-se, but there's a configuration error in Affinity Designer and Photo's raster brush settings while using "Velocity" to control brush size. I noticed this with previous versions and thought it might be addressed in 1.7, but unfortunately it's not. Using velocity to control the brush size is meant to change the brush size depending on the speed at which you draw. Think gel-pen - the quicker you draw, the thinner the line is, and the slower you draw, the thicker the line is. As it stands, in Affinity, it's more of a slow gradual build up in size regardless of the speed at which you draw - sometimes it doesn't really do anything at all to the size. Procreate's 'Gel Pen' brush is a great example of this, and so is ArtStudio Pro's brushes with velocity enabled. Clip Studio Paint also has it, which I used to demo the feature so that you can better understand what I mean. I've uploaded a quick screen recording of this to YouTube to better show what I mean (below). I've boosted the 'velocity' jitter significantly in CSP just to make it obvious, and I've maxed it out in Designer, but it isn't doing much. The velocity feature is super awesome for getting a digital brush to feel and behave 100% like a real ink pen. Would love to see this realised/fixed in a future update.
  25. Hi, I'm new to use Affinity Photo and Affinity Design. Till now I used Photoshop. I'm missing some function in Affinity. Can someone tell me how to rotate the canvas in Affinity Photo and how to change the Brush size with the mouse like Photoshop.
