Lem3 reacted to mfishpool in Default Settings for Inpainting Brush (and others)
    Hi,
I've been using Affinity Photo (1.6.5) on Windows for a few weeks now and mostly finding it a great tool to use. I wanted to know if there is a way to change the default settings on the tools. In particular when I use the Inpainting brush, I almost always use it on a new pixel layer and change it to Current Layer & Below for non-destructive use. It would be easier if I could change the default to be that setting as I forget to change it often and waste time painting the empty layer! The same is true for the clone brush, and probably others too.
    Thanks,
    Mark

Photo is a usability disaster everywhere I look. It is crazy. Even rudimentary features are incredibly time-consuming and illogical to use.
Simply add an option like in Adobe Photoshop, so anyone knowing he/she actually wants to perform a destructive crop can do it on the spot:

Who would immediately think "I will need to rasterize my bitmap photo and trim it to get rid of the area I never wanted Photo to keep anyway" ?
Finally the same confused customer can get the option to resize to "200,3 pixels" ... "Que?"

Currently, deleting pixels outside the crop area requires an additional, very non-intuitive, step -- right click on layer in Layers Panel and select "Rasterize." For me, that word has absolutely nothing to do with cropping. I recommend adding the Photoshop solution: put a check box in the context menu for the crop tool that says "delete cropped pixels." Simple, right up front, doesn't require a trip to the Help screens.

I use the Select Color Range tool in PS almost daily.  The limitations in the AP Select Sampled Color tool makes it frustratingly useless in my applications. I would like these features added:
Add or subtract from selection with additional clicks on the image.
Additional options for viewing selection beyond marching ants, e.g., overlay, black on white, etc.

Further testing indicates it's HOW I get to 100% (or whatever) zoom that controls whether the filter effect is shown. The attached file opens at 82.5% zoom on my 24" monitor, toggling the filter has no visible effect.  There are several options for changing to 100% zoom (close and reopen the file after each option):
Open the Zoom tool, either change the "82.5" to "100", move the slider to 100 or use the drop down menu.  The filter effect is not displayed with any of these choices. Click Ctrl+1.  The effect is not displayed. Click Ctrl+=.  The effect is not displayed. Hold Ctrl+Spacebar, drag slowly to the right until zoom is 100%.  The effect is not displayed. Click Ctrl+(minus) then Ctrl+=, the effect is displayed. Hold Ctrl+Spacebar, drag until effect suddenly becomes visible (around 115% on my system), reduce zoom to 100%, the effect remains displayed. Is this actually working properly?

Gotta love those power users who recommend accepting the not-quite-right work around instead of encouraging a more appropriate feature be added.  -.-  The "New Stack" is better than nothing, but I agree with Patrick.  A simple checkbox or feature to import the stack without doing anything extra would be better.  And a reasonable request.  Not worrying about lost time in a professional (or personal environment) is not a reasonable request.  There's no way to replenish that little commodity.

That sure makes the workflow a lot easier, I'll give it a try.

I've looked this feature up on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh7Pi8fRazE) and found that it also 'blends' the images. This would take some processing power of the computer, so if there are a lot of images to stack this would take some unneeded time, because I'm just ungrouping the stack again.

An option to open the images as seperate layers (and this could be as simple as a checkbox in the stacking window called 'open as layers instead of group') still is the better option.

Lem3 reacted to StanA in Feature request Histogram according to layer mask for levels adjustment
This is the same feature as was discussed here:
    https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/100793-how-to-show-histogram-only-for-masked-adjustment-layer/&tab=comments#comment-539760
I think many serious photographers are using local masks for the levels adjustment layers in photoshop and take advantage that the histogram in the levels adjustment only shows the values for the selected region. E.g. it was one of the main tools for Ben Long in the Lynda.com course on Photography printing: https://www.lynda.com/Photoshop-tutorials/Inkjet-Printing-Photographers/103678-2.html.
Would be great to have it in affinity photo. I actually couldn‘t find any other software for macOS that would implement it, which seems strange, shouldn‘t be too difficult... OpenCV does it, so shouldn‘t be an Adobe patented feature.

Its mandatory (for me) to have a quick escape from many functions.
So in PS its possible to hit "escape" on the keyboard and the actual transformation/funtion is gone.
But not so in affinity photo. :-(
Edit: Its built in Filter/Distort/Perspective (translated from the german version), but its not in some other essentials like the named crop-function, mesh-transformation.
Please build this nice little feature in all/most functions for the next release. Thank you!

If I add a mask to a pixel layer and modify the layer with the Warp Tool, only the pixels are affected, the mask doesn't change.  I don't understand the logic here, the tool should work on the mask as well.  Like in that "other program".

    Hello everbody,
I had the same problem as Mrty76. i found a solution for me that may could help you too. I disabled the Windows Ink Box under Preferences -> Tools in Affinity Photo and left the box in the Wacom Pen Settings, Enable Windows Ink, checked. That solved the problem for me. I have pen pressure and can zoom in and out, change brush size with alt ect.
I m running the latest affinity photo version and i m using a wacom intous pro m
    Maybe that helps

Lem3 reacted to garetmckinley in How to expand from center for Marquee Tool?
It's now January 2018 and the issue is still not resolved. As somebody who's profession is designing mandalas (something that requires symmetry as well as expanding from the *center*), it's a little disappointing that something so basic has still not been added. I purchased the Affinity suite the minute they released on the mac app store, and again on all my windows machines. It has replaced the adobe suite for me, but this feature has always annoyed me.

My workaround so far has been to create vector shapes (since for some reason they're allowed to created by expanding from the center?). It honestly confuses me why at the very least the tools aren't consistent. Why does the ctrl/command key perform differently on the shape vs marquee tool when they are essentially doing identical things?

I really hope they see this thread and start considering adding it. I can't see why from a programming standpoint it would be difficult to add, since the functionality is already existent in the app.

Lem3 got a reaction from carl123 in Clone Brush Problem with Flip Horizontal
I first noticed this problem in 1.6.5.123 but it's also in 1.7.0.251 so I'm adding it here.  The issue is at least one of the clone brush options do not recognize image rotations.
    I open an image

    which I straighten

I select the clone brush, alt-click the inner corner of the monkey's right eye (our left) and clone it to the upper left.

Then I change the clone Flip option to Horizontal and repeat the clone:

Note the highlights in the eyes: AP flipped the cloned section horizontally, but is sampling from the original, unrotated image.  I expected to get a mirror image of the same leveled eye.
