Thanks a lot guys! 🙂 I´m a little busy these days, but I hope very soon I´ll be able to make some more videos.. I'm working on some projects, but I can't really show them yet due to the clients, but when it's done I´ll be able to post some videos of it.. I also have a watch engraving I'm designing and I'm trying to document it, just need some time to put it together 🙂
Stay tuned and thanks again! 🙂

276ccm reacted to DrGrafix in DXF or DWG file import in Affinity Designer
I have a friend who has a CNC Plasma cutting table, its 5 feet by 10 feet. Currently he's using it to build flat brackets for the specialty automotive market. He's not CAD-savvy and uses Seimens free Solidworks program to make simple part shapes. We are both gear heads LOL, and I asked him if he could cut a flat pattern for a radiator shroud. Thats the tray/box like thing behind the radiator where the fan goes. I'm not very CAD savvy myself, so I created a detailed dimensional drawing in VISIO, and saved it as a PDF. I was also able to extract the main piece without dimensions and then save that to DWG in Visio. What is pretty cool is that I emailed him the files and he was able to open and edit my DWG-saved file. We haven't cut the shape yet, there's a bit of a logistical problem with him being 100 miles away, but here's an image of my two drawings, and a quick "Illustration" I created in Photoshop plus some test-fit pix. Only used PS because I haven't yet grasped all the image manipulation aspects of Affinity Photo. Just for kicks, I have built a few prototypes to check for fit and dimensional reference, and its worked out pretty good.
Bottom line is that I think DXF and DWG... being the world standard for CAD should get the utmost consideration. I haven't looked at Affinity Designer, but if I could create a component design in Affinity Designer that could be exported as a DXF/DWG I'm halfway on board. Getting Affinity to import/export DXF, DWG, and CDR... well, ca-ching, there goes my credit card. Please work on this.

Thank you for the video. I am just getting started in scroll design and Infinity. Seeing your work at least lets me know I have the right tools.

Yes, I tend tohear some high sounds… A baby's cry made my ears ache for long when nobody around seems to be annoyed, but I've got difficulties hearing the deep voices of some friends if there's a lot of sound around like in a busy restaurant. I was wondering if there were some tests to check this, or if speakers were able to reproduce high sounds. Now I've part of the answer
The melody is nice, even if it seems for me made partly swiping fingers around a glass!
And if you've got other videos, please post them, it's interesting to watch and kind of soothing looking you drawing perfect lines so easily.

276ccm got a reaction from debussy in DXF or DWG file import in Affinity Designer
Today I had to do what I hoped not to do.. start the subscription of Adobe Illustrator again.. only because need the DXF import and export.
I have tried some other options as Inkscape and others, but they really suck.. in my opinion.
hope this DXF feature will be here soon!

I'm not sure if this work, but I'm trying to add a embed youtube video Edit: No it didn't work, so I added the link instead of a project I'm working on in AD 🙂 Such a great tool.. I try to do most of the work on the iPad..
This is a scrollwork design meant for laser engraving for a client.. I'm a hand engraver, but some commission work is good these days 🙂
By the way, is there a way to put the youtube video directly in the post? 🙂

No problem
Your original link had '&feature=youtu.be' after the video URL, this technically isn't required to access the video, and I've seen forum posts previously where the video failed to embed until any of the characters following the '&' symbol were removed.
Absolutely, simply pasting in the link into the forum post will automatically embed the video, similar to pasting a link to another forum thread

@276ccm Thanks for the video, great work!
Youtube links can be embedded, but are somewhat particular. I removed any unnecessary characters from the URL, then pasted this in as plain text into your post, at which point the Forum automatically embeds it. I hope you don't mind that I've manually edited your post to show this

276ccm reacted to MEB in AD crashes when expand strokes and press “add”
Hi 276ccm,
Seems it's crashing because there's nothing selected after you expand the strokes - it losses the selection - however the boolean operation icons remain active. Can you try the add operation again making sure you have the expanded lines selected after expanding them please? Does it still crash for you?
Even with an new empty document it crashes if you tap on the add boolean operation icon in the More menu. I'm logging this to be looked at.

You’re welcome.
If it ends up not being a good solution – for whatever reason – then just reply to this thread with any extra information you get from the client/engraver.

276ccm got a reaction from EmmaW in Vintage scroll frame (assets)
I’m thinking of making a pack of vintage/scroll frames, as assets..
can be a quick way to making ideas for vintage signs, sign painting etc..
i have been sketching some frames (as you can see in background) and now vectorizing them, so they can be edited..
Maybe it’s not necessary to make them as assets, but just figured out how it works :-)
Would anyone be interested in a pack like this? :-) What do you think?

All vector now, but has a lot of cleanup to do.. and made it into an asset :-) Maybe someone interested to try it out, after it’s a little more clean? :-)

276ccm reacted to firstdefence in .SVG file for Laser Engraving
Ask the client to send an .SVG he/she has used successfully for you to reverse engineer, well look at, something similar to what you are doing now if possible.
With SVG, the code generated by the exporter might be important because you can have the same vector image but with different code.
"Nice graphic by the way"

276ccm reacted to John Rostron in Installing NIK without Photoshop?
No problem. You just need to tell Photo where the Nik .8bf files are. Use Edit > Preferences > Photoshop Plugins, then navigate to each folder an click on Add. You will need to restart Photo.

276ccm reacted to MEB in Installing NIK without Photoshop?
Hi 276ccm,
Yes, you can but you have to create a folder during the Nik installation to specify where the plugin files will be installed otherwise only the standalone apps will be installed.
Follow the instructions on this video. Pay attention to the section that starts at 0:40s where James click the "+" button to add a custom folder to where install the plugin files. This folder must be created manually by you. James has created it on his desktop and called it Plugins but I advise you to create the folder inside the Applications folder on your Mac and call it Photoshop Plugins (or whatever you see fit). Then, when you click the "+" button (as in the 0:40s in the video) point it to that folder you just created and continue following the rest of the instructions in the video. The Nik installer will create a new folder named/labelled DxO inside the folder you created - this is where all plugin files will be placed - and its the folder you have to browse to/add to the Plugin Search Folder section in Affinity Photo Photoshop Plugins Preferences.

I see now they can need a little more work... but I’ll fix, and update or maybe make a version 2.. I see some lines can be a little static.. so I’ll figure out how to make it better.
But they can be pretty cool for vintage shadowing too... :-)
