I don’t think I’ll be visiting your restaurant in a hurry! 2€ for 25 cl of orange juice is bad enough, but also 2€ for 50 cl of water??

This could be indeed very useful. I was looking for this option lately and was getting frustrated when I finally realized that it was simply not possible for now.
Ideally I would love for Data Merge to be able to behave more like web templates and allow for more depth to the data structure.
Here is for exemple a JSON structure data for a restaurant menu :

{ "Dishes": [ { "name": "Pizza", "price": 12, "priceUnit": "€" }, { "name": "Pasta", "price": 10, "priceUnit": "€" } ], "Drinks": [ { "name": "water", "quantity": 50, "quantityUnit": "cl", "price": 2, "priceUnit": "€" }, { "name": "Orange juice", "quantity": 25, "quantityUnit": "cl", "price": 2, "priceUnit": "€" } ] } Supporting single text frame would be nice and allow to split the above exemple in 2 files but combining them into a single file would be even better.

I recently had a project with the same text across multiple formats resulting in multiple files to edit for each text change… and of course the client had numerous last minute changes. If I could have a master file for all my texts it would have made things so much easier.

I just downloaded the Designer Beta and the problems 1, 2 seems to be solved.
    1. I tried quitting the application while in full screen. The application once reopened is taking the maximum available space but doesn't creep under the menu bar 👍
    2. I tried opening the application after unplugging my main screen. The application window is now contained within the new smaller screen size 👍
    3. So far no overlaps of the window main button with the toolbar 🤞
    4. Still no luck when opening images the Mac way 😅

Are there any plans of adding a two-dimensional alignment option? Akin to the "Tidy Up" option present in Figma.
I understand the objectives of those programs are a bit outside of the central scope of Affinity, but additions like that seem like the next logical step. Thank you!

I'm curious why these new functions were added to Alignment rather than being added to Transform, though. They feel more like object transformation actions than object alignment actions. Am I missing some aspect of how this works?

Affinity applications have had issues with windows management from the start, its been years and I don't see any improvement.
    1. If you quit the application while working in fullscreen mode, opening the application will result in a maxed out window that even go under the menu bar.
The dimensions of the window when not in fullscreen should be stored and used instead.

    2. Linked to this widow size problem, the screen might not be the same as last time the application was opened so the window should never exceed the screen size minus the dock (if it is not hidden) and the menu bar.
I think Apple design guidelines do define all of this.

    3. When opening the application, the personas button are sometimes in the same place as the windows buttons. As if the fullscreen mode was never exited.

    4. Opening a file in an application should always put the focus on the application AND show the space where the application is active.
Currently if you open a file by dragging it on the application icon (which is a very common practice for long time macOS users) the application will only gain focus. You have to change between your spaces to see that the file was correctly opened.
This drives me nuts as I always wait for the application to load the file and then appear like all the other applications do, then after a while I remember that I have to switch to the application's space.

This is a critical issue ! How can this not be a top priority ???

I thought that having all 3 applications working seamlessly together was the all point. Recognizing transparency is quite important for a lot of us. What is the point of being able to switch between the 3 applications if you can't work with the native file formats 😭

Having to open the Photos files to export them as TIFF isn't what I had in mind when they announced the benefits of having a shared file format 😅

More elegantly implemented (and easy to remember) in other programs. I love to have it enabled by default for many tasks - fx cleaning up complex shapes.

    Getting the 2.2 beta
If you have not enrolled into the beta program yet and would like to take part, you can do so here. This will immediately give you access to the latest 2.2 beta builds to try for yourself.
If you are already enrolled in the beta program you have two options:
If you still have the 2.1 beta installed, you can now run up those beta versions and you will be prompted to update them to the 2.2 beta. If you have uninstalled the 2.1 beta, you will need to go back to Your Account -> Downloads and product keys and find your previous order for the Affinity Beta Software Program, and you can download the 2.2 beta from there. Thanks,
    Ash

JPEG XL sounds wonderful. Wish it was happening, but not now. Not yet.  And with Chrome dropping out and WebKit updates happening only on leap years, I wouldn't hold my breath.

    Hey Guys,
AVIF support would be greatly appreciated. I know this has been a long requested feature since version 1 but still no word on when this will be implemented from Serif?
Thank you for JPEG XL but due to Google being just downright awkward and deprecating the XL codec in version M110 AVIF is really the only choice to use with current gen technology for higher quality smaller file sizes.
Can we please get an update on where things are with this?
Great job on the software. The future for these apps is very bright.
    Kind regards

I must say that this doesn't affect me so much but it is driving my sister crazy.
She has a lot of clients and is constantly jumping between them so this is a constant source of mistakes for her.
At this point this should be a priority, especially as this is the behavior from Adobe’s applications, this would greatly help newcomers 😇

About the controversy concerning the price of the update. So far as I understand there has been no communication at all about changes to their business model. A survey doesn't change that, especially since we don't know what the results are.
One of the key point in Affinity's communication has been “no subscription”, so I expect that they honor that and offer a paid upgrade for a 2.x perpetual licence.
Depending on their marketing strategy, they could offer an upgrade licence price or consider that the full licence price is low enough that they don't really need an upgrade price and simply launch with a temporary discount.

I would go with a temporary discount as it offer several advantages. It is easier to implement (especially for the Apple App Store where paid upgrades are still not really a thing) and the discount being temporary it pushes all existing customers to upgrade immediately.
Anyway, I’ll gladly pay for the upgrade simply because I enjoy using the applications and want to support the team’s work 😎

Their priorities are simply not always aligned with some of us. I would love to see this feature implemented but I don’t think it is fair to throw some shade on them because someone else did it faster.

It would be great if we could set nudge distances in the preferences depending on the unit like it is possible for the decimal place.
When working with pixels I like my nudge units to be 1px and 10px but when I work in mm it make more sense to set it to 1mm and 10mm. Currently you have to change it manually each time and I often forget as I constantly switch between print and web.

fdelaneau got a reaction from HeiligerBimBam in Import SVG / How to handle "Embedded Document" ?
About saving the changes, I would love that when editing the embedded document, hitting cmd + S would save the source file. Right now I feel really insecure when I need to work more then a few minutes on the embedded document and having to switch to the source file and save breaks the workflow (worse, my reflex is to hit cmd + S but it does nothing).

It would be nice to be able to import the embedded document in one clic ! It would directly import all layers from the embedded file and apply the size, skew, and other effects that have beed applied to the file.

I also would like to see a way to export and embedded file directly as an affinity designer file (see dedicated post).

Now, if you really want to delete the extra content after a crop, you can always go to Layers > Rasterize and trim…
